That was a pretty awesome video. I remember back in the day my dad would buy me new turtles from Germany. I specifically remember getting the rock bus and slap stick leo that way.

My pleasure, Bill.

The user Ulisses31 left a photo from a Portugese news magazine on this site in 2012, also. Here's the link:

Man, back when Toy stores didn't seem to care that they had a billion figures spilling off the pegs at really cheap prices. Not like now, they are way too careful.

I remember at one point I had to pack away my Turtle stuff, because the family my mom and I had to stay with thought they were the Devil. Not like those toy guns with popping action.

Here is another sighting from the BBC Television mini-series "I Love the 80s". A store display from the year 1990 appears at 4:54 in the YouTube video.

Has anyone here ever seen the 1991 movie "Career Opportunities"?

Most of the scenes in it take place in a Target. It was filmed in January of 1990, I think.

In one scene, the two main characters (Frank Whaley and Jennifer Connelly) are in the toy aisle and there is an
end cap filled with the basic assortment figures from '89. I cannot find a screen grab anywhere on-line, but I know I saw it. The scene appears in the middle of the film, I believe, in case anyone here is interested.

Off topic a little bit, didn't the figures cost around $3.99-5.99? I seem to remember around that price. What would that equal if you counted inflation nowadays? Wouldn't that be around $12-15 in today's dollars?
I distinctly remember paying $4.00 at Ames for my first ever turtle Raphael. That was probably 1988. It was the first thing I bought with my allowance. According to google $3.99 in 1988 is equal to $8.22 today. Interesting that the price of turtle figures from Playmates really hasn't changed much.

Funny that they apparently turned them all to their backside, maybe to avoid copyright issues? Squinting, I can spot Usagi, Leatherhead, Krang, General Traag, Genghis Frog, and Batman.

No problem. I sprung the $3.99 to rent it on Amazon. There were 3 good reasons: TMNT, John Hughes and Jennifer Connelly (big fan of her around the time of The Rocketeer). The movie itself was just OK, but it was kinda cool to see a Target store from the early '90s. They weren't in my area until much later.

btw: that youtube link doesn't seem to work.

A news story from November of 1989:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7o2KQV...ature=youtu.be

The Retrocatapult, Pizza Thrower, Turtle Battle Fun Sets, and Krang action figures can all be seen. I think their footage was shot in Toys “R” Us.
