I think Mitsu and her grandfather are actually based on Michelangelo's book characters in the Mirage comic. They show up again in the 4Kids show.

Yoshi is a common name in Japan. Also remember, Super Mario World was still hot by the time, so playing on the name was easy.

I don't think their was an intent for a relation, they really would have gone out of the way to imply that, these movies didn't have a knack for the subtle. And I'm really glad they didn't, it would have made their world feel so small.

Here's a time travel story with Shredder as the villian, that has broader implications on the Turtles and Splinter as well.

Time-travel at least seemed to be the thing for TMNT back in 1992-1993.

That's the thing, though...one would EXPECT them to run into an ancestor of Saki or Yoshi in ancient Japan; so the fact that they run into a guy who looks like Casey is ironic.

OMG you're right! I actually have to give that terrible movie credit.

Anyway, I prefer if Norinaga is not related to Shredder. Can't they get out of the Shredder-box for just one movie?

Also, I tend to think of both this movie and "Legend of Kôji" as loose adaptations of "Masks". But, I think LoK was created to "Synergize" with TMNT III rather than as an "apology" for it.
