Disney Planning Live-Action Pinocchio

A live-action film based on the classic story of Pinocchio is currently in the works at Disney.

According to a report from Deadline, famed screenwriter Peter Hedges is attached to the film, which will serve as a loose take on the beloved fairy tale centered around a wooden marionette who wishes to become a real boy.

Very little is currently known about the project, aside from the fact that it's clearly in the very early stages of production. Considering the recent success of the live-action adaptation of Disney's Cinderella, a new movie about the iconic wooden boy and his maker seems like a no brainer.

From IGN.com. Wow Disney is out of ideas.

Oh man. They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas... I thought Winnie the Pooh would be their craziest one.

Wouldn't a live-action Pinocchio look... creepy?

I wonder if they'll ship donkey-children off to the salt mines in this version.

Could be worse, Michael Bay could be producing it.

It's about seeing what these classic movies would be like if they were real. It's part of the reason any animation gets turned into live action. It's cool to see it "real".

I know the cynics have decided that Hollywood went down hill at some point in the last 10-15 years. The 'Movies aren't what they used to be' thing and anything not brand new is either out of ideas or a cash-in. Even new things get hit with the usual CGI and rehash complaints.

Let's stop acting like modern day movies are being created to screw us over, people. Hollywood is the same as it's always been. Go complain about every era's trends then.

Live Action Pinocchio isn't even farfetched. They'll probably make him look cute.

Why do I have the feeling The Little Mermaid is gonna be really creepy looking in live action? I'm all for a live action Aladdin flick, though it's gonna be hard finding somebody to top Robin Williams as Genie, and I have the feeling Disney will want to use another celebrity.

Paul King (Paddington) is in talks to direct the film and Jack Thorne (Wonder) is doing a re-write of the script. Disney is hoping to get the cameras rolling by this fall. I think this project sounds very promising should this director and scriptwriter officially take part in it.

Tom Hanks is in early talks to play Geppetto. This casting would be absolutely perfect should it in fact happen.

Once you watch the 1975 animated version of the Little Mermaid, Not even the Disney version tops it. If Disney makes a live action Little Mermaid, it needs to be as epic as the 1975 version.

Hate me for saying this but this Japanese version of the Little Mermaid is superior than the water down Disney version. I want my Little Mermaid to be true to the story.

Robert Zemeckis might be directing the film following King's departure.

According to this article about streaming services, there had been plans for the movie to be exclusively available for streaming on Disney+. However, a theatrical release might actually be happening with Zemeckis on board.

Zemicks sealed the deal to direct the movie back in January.

Now, Hanks is once again in talks to play Geppetto.

Why in the world would they want to do a live-action Pinocchio? Maybe Disney should do live-action films based on stories that wouldn't need to utilize CGI or something for its actual characters.

They already screwed up Dumbo, why mess this up too. Hey, why not Peter Pan? How about Lilo & Stitch? How about the Princess and the Frog? Might as well since Disney is obviously out of ideas for movies these days.

How about pretending Frozen 2 never happened, and make another Frozen 2 with a better plot and story...okay never mind. I was just really disappointed with Frozen 2. ^^

Live action 101 & 102 Dalmatians are good though let’s be honest. Largely due to Glenn Close.

Pinocchio might be good like Steven Spielberg’s AI tho. Maybe.
