As if it hadn't already been done in one form or fashion a hundred times, and not even that long ago.

That sh*t only got ink in the press because most people don't read comics, so when they do, and find out that it's not a cartoon, and that much of the material even in Superman strips is often rather dark, they flip their sh*t.

I've said many times, people who don't read comics shouldn't form strong opinions on how they tell their stories, and they shouldn't be the ones dictating what's "acceptable" within a medium they normally don't pay any attention to in the first place.

And parents need to calm the fvck down and pay more attention to what they allow for their kids. Be informed. Ain't nobody's job but yours.

What's your take on Jimmy Olsen and Lois getting their own individual ongoings in June Leo?

Haven't heard much about it. Selfishly, kind of not a fan. I like them both, obviously, but I've never really picked up "supporting cast" books, historically. They seem like a lazy way to push more product into an over-saturated market. And given that I can't afford to even buy Superman or Batman books presently, you definitely won't find me buying books centered around the supporting cast. They're fine characters, but they're not why I read the main titles.

I'm less interested in the lives of "normies" in a world populated by gods and titans. They're there for perspective, and that's great, but I'm more interested in the fantastical than the mundane, myself.

These things also never last very long, which always has me asking what the point ultimately was. They almost always end up feeling like filler.

What's wrong with that? They've both gotten ongoings in decades past.

I think this is likely the reason Bendis set up the current "modern marriage" angle in the Superman books, where Lois decided that, while she remains very much in love with Clark, she felt she wasn't needed that much by him, and with her son all aged up, she decides not to succumb to empty nest syndrome and wants to focus on writing a tell-all book to better Clark's position in the world and work on other assignments independent of her husband.

Yes, in the Silver Age, where it was less about how "grounded" they were and more about zany hijinx and imaginary stories...and Superman still showed up in just about every issue to keep people interested.

Again, the fact that they were really just Superman stories that weren't good enough to be published in Superman or Action Comics - and that there was no attempt to even disguise that fact - always had me shaking my head. BUT, at least they were still Superman stories. He showed up and did stuff. Maybe made the books' titles a bit of misdirection, since the stories were still "really" about Superman, but at least they knew what people wanted to see, even if the product was... mixed quality.

But a book "just" about Lois or Jimmy... I kind of don't care. Once more, it always just feels like filler. If the stuff being presented was "important" it would be covered in the main books.

I'm still kind of stinging from that 12-issue Jimmy Olsen series from like 15 years ago, "Metropolis" I think. That's a pretty wide canvas to give a secondary supporting cast member, for a story in which NOTHING HAPPENED. It's like why bother? Yes, everyone is the Hero of their own personal journey, but most people simply are not interesting enough to have a spotlight. True in real life, equally true in fiction.

Might not be terrible, but I doubt they'll present anything incredibly relevant to the larger DCU. Just feels like More Product.

The epilogue to the Flash/Batman crossovers a flash forward revealing Batman is tracking down someone who is making people act out of character.

It softens the blow a bit to know all the major drama going on now isn't the characters fault but a higher power manipulating things, it does feel like a cheap way of excusing the writing though. It means nobody has to adhere to any guidelines. What's connective tissue without any real character consistency to go with it?

Its the first time I ever agreed with the Didiot in 16 years. It would be a good start to finish one crisis before starting one or two more.

Young Justice#3:

Spoiler:
Connor is a father with a wife and kid on Gemworld. Bendis has sunk the Connor/Cassie 'ship, and made Clark a grandfather. This is probably the real reason Jon was aged up, so Bendis could introduce a new super kid he was entirely responsible for and who's narrative he could control right from the very start

A new podcast interview with Greg Rucka, where he talks about what to expect from the Lois Lane book

http://geekinthecity.com/2019/03/21/...-lazarus-rise/

Spoiler:
The first storyline deals with the fallout of Lois being seen kissing Superman in public back in Action Comics#1004. The people now see her as a temptress who doesn't know her place, the story also focuses on what happens in regards to backlash when you speak your mind

Just be glad this **** is being handled by someone who knows what they're doing (Rucka) rather than Bendis.

What is your favorite Detective Comics short story? Not a bad one in the bunch really. My favorite is the one that focuses on Dick Grayson, The Precedent.

https://www.cbr.com/detective-comics...on-best-robin/

Also, as sweet a message as it is it tells me that the batfamily needs to be thinned. Mr. Grayson gets focus and also figures out the riddle Bruce presents despite being the "eleventh best detective".

There really is not a bad or boring story in this human driven sbort stkey filled issue.

Not sure where else to put this, but apparently Kevin Smith wrote one of the stories in Detective Comics #1000.

https://screenrant.com/batman-secret...ogo-gun-comic/

Kevin Smith needs to never, ever write Batman. Like ever.

It was just five pages and it was fine, touching actually. He did throw in his Onomontopia like in the Widening Gyre though.

So Heroes In Crisis is already up to 7 out of 9? What is Ted Kord's role exactly? My brother isva huge fan. Let's put it like this, the Halloween after his murder he painted Blue Beetle on a pumpkin with, " Rot in Hell, Max!" written on the back.

Couldn't tell ya, I haven't been following that closely. I missed that Kord was back at all, shows you how closely I've paid attention since 2011.

And that junk that Smith wrote is so sappy I could slather it on my waffles. This guy really can't handle writing anything with more emotional weight than a dick joke. I was a huge fan of his and I still like his early films, but I think his hackery is fairly well-exposed at this point.

"It broke my heart as a boy... and it will PROTECT my heart as a man!" GROAN. Massive eye-roll. As if the Armored Bat-Logo on his costume needed its own "Secret Origin".

Next we'll find out that his cape is sewn together from the body bags the coroners hauled his parents' bodies away in. And the first Batmobile was a retrofitted hearse.

Kevin Smith is not good at much, but he's definitely Not Good at Batman.

Funny enough, its the only thing of Kevin Smith's that I actually evere bothered to read.

Ted came back alive at some point in the New 52 as a mentor to Reyes, but never actually took to the field in costume. I was wondering if HiC#4 was the first time since Max shot him that he was Blue Beetle. I have kept a limited scope of the company since New 52 killed my interest. Andrew got on me for not knowing about a Bane maxi-series, but I don't pay attention to what the entire company put out is.

Back in like 2008 I was easily collecting about half of the DC line. I've never had more fun as a comics fan, even though it's not like everything was universally great, but it was good enough to keep me invested.

But even if New 52 never happened, the jump to $3 and then $4 per issue is just way outside my budget. So I try not to dwell on it too much. I just pick up something here and there if it catches my eye.

Batman is the first inductee into the Comic Con Museum Hall of Fame.

https://www.newsarama.com/44542-batm...l-of-fame.html

Superman: Year One will explore all love interests of the man of steel, culminating in him falling for Lois. Expect a brief resurgence of Superwonder then

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/03...ves-lois-lane/

Metal is getting a sequel, confirmed by Scott Snyder at Wondercon. The story will feature a character that was cut from the original tale, Snyder also says there after Metal, he had a two year plan that gets put into motion this year with Year of the Villain followed by something in 2020

Quick question:

I didn't read Dark Knight Metal yet, but for what I understand it seems to be the end of the "Rebirth" era and the beginning of another one.

For example, the cover page of the new JL serie hasn't the "Rebirth" logo, neither the new green lantern serie by Grant Morrisson.

Are these series the only relaunched series yet? Is there a name for that new era?

Sorry if it has been discussed, but I don't want to search all 30 pages thread
