Maybe my bar has been set so low by Disovery that this shocked me, flaws and all...i dunna. I'll put the Mudd episodes up as my 2 favorites of this series. Need to rewatch the OS Mudd outings.

what's equally sad is all the people on facebook saying they enjoy this murdering star trek and think it's 'mature' now. that's kind of scary.

TPTB have successfully created a protective narrative of "If you don't like this NEW Trek for a NEW generation, then you must be a JADED, OLD, OUT OF TOUCH TREKKIE!" around Discovery. I see even old hardcore fans feeling obligated to point out positives here and there, as if to say, "See? I'm NOT an OLD, OUT OF TOUCH TREKKIE! I like... some of it!!!"

I'm not drinking the kool-aid. They can go and f*** themselves.

Eh. I DO like some of it. But this certainly isn't what the franchise needed.

By all means, do some dark gritty Game of Thrones kinda stuff. But don't trample all over established canon and fan favorite characters. And don't bother cramming it in ten measly years before Kirk, make it right in the middle of Kirk and Archer or a few decades after Nemesis.

This is just lazily tossing "gritty" and "dark" and "prequel" and "JJ Abrams" and "Mudd" and "Sarek" and "Klingons" into a blender.

Doesn't mean some of the chunks aren't good. But so far, I still think this is a misstep for the franchise and nothing more than a lazy cash grab. Not as bad as JJ Abrams Trek, but still bottom of the ladder behind all of the other five shows.

He doesn't redefine the wheel or anything. It's a whole lot of talking about the Mirror Universe and a whole lot of not showing it, but that's a script thing.

I think a lot of my problems with Discovery would go away if they'd just kept the Klingons looking like one of the two established on screen looks.

This OMGNEW Klingon look and culture is just so ingrained and important to the entire Discovery story, I can't get past it. If it weren't for that, I think I'd be able to stomach the needless 10-years-before-TOS story elements.

I'd certainly be more forgiving if they did that. And the uniforms should be like the ones in "The Cage" (and with better fabric they'd look pretty sweet in a 2017 show).

And phasers that work like phasers. And no holodecks, you f***ers.

Yeah, the holo-technology is a hard one to overlook...

I do like the uniforms, though. The gold/silver/copper color scheme is cool. But I really wish they'd found a way to keep the gold/red/blue color scheme with it somehow...

There's only like two characters even somewhat developed on the show and yes, they've been in the Mirror Universe for like 4 episodes now. One non-character died, and a whole lot of non-characters talking about being in the Mirror Universe and not much else. The "big twist" in the latest episode is somewhat interesting.
