I very rarely get sick. Like once every ten years.

I got sick early within the year. It was just a mild cold that I caught from another person.

Even I'm good with wearing a mask and keeping my distance, I have been seeing quite a few mask-less mugs that wander through downtown, so, I'm trying to remain on the safe side for now.

You realize that wearing a mask really is only to protect everyone else from you, right? If your mask catches some viral or bacterial speckles, you're still going to breathe it in.

That isn’t true though. Why are you spreading false information?

Masks can protect you AND people around you. You just need to use the right mask.

Your eyes are still exposed to droplets though. For further protection you should wear a mask and glasses/face shield but honestly I've never seen someone doing so here in Italy except doctors and people who work in stores. I always use an N95 mask.

N95s are next to impossible here, sad to say. Got an imported one for reasonable price via eBay months ago, but only one (not allowed two) and gave it to my mom. She's been using it and gently washing it with dish soap all this time. I don't think the life expectancy of an N95 is supposed to go this long, but you use what you've got, I guess.

Personally, I use fabric masks with an added layer of the blue shop towels inside since that material supposedly proved in tests to filter pretty well (particularly the Tool Box brand).

I do not know how some feel okay with just the flimsy little surgical masks, though.

I'm sorry to hear you still don't have easy access to N95s there in the US.

They say the more layers you add the safer you are, so that's a good idea.

I honestly don't feel safe with them. They are super cheap now but... no, thanks.

I got a cloth one for free from one of the shops I frequent. Works fine.

Most people around here go for a thin cloth or surgical mask, a bandanna fashioned into a mask Western bandit-style, or nothing. Nobody's getting fancy in the slightest.

In spite of such gross negligence, things are and have remained perfectly fine thus far. ((Knocks Wood))

Originally I got a few of those cool looking neck gaiter things I wanted to use, but sadly I don't have a fat enough head for them to remain in place well enough, esp while working.

My awesome supervisor made me a cloth one though and the company after a bit gave us "copper infused" black cloth ones.

I have a theory that what happened over here was, NJ told the virus "Go F*ck Yourself" and it in fact did do that. That's what happens to most things, up to and including hurricanes, blizzards and tornadoes. When dangerous forces of nature creep up on us, we collectively tell whatever it is to f*ck right off and it does. It usually heads North and hits NY, but nobody here cares what happens Up There, that's their problem. Jagoffs.

Probably why it's so expensive to live in this state.

Yeah, yeah, and Jersey infected this state, so I wouldn't be so smug about it. lol

But we shut down right alongside you guys and PA, our own small infection numbers be damned, and we remain still just a bit over 19,000 cases.

Granted we're a bit smaller and a lot less population, but no reason we couldn't have had the same numbers if the state didn't act as soon as it did, esp on this north end.

For the places I have to, I wear the same mask that's been bouncing around my car for the past 4 months or so.

I know, bad on me for not being much more terrified, right?

Not that I ever really go anywhere. Just the grocery store once and again. The 711. The liquor store. My friend's house once every 1.5 weeks. Outside to go for runs (which I do not wear a mask during but run "around" people out of respect). Even if I was to be scared of the virus (I'm not), I'm really not posing a risk for contracting it or spreading it. Unless the wife brings it home one day... she works in healthcare. If she does then she does, though, nothing I can do about it.

No. It's that you're filthy. That's just gross, man. He called you a pig, not a chicken. Not everything is political. Are you so brave that you're protesting hygiene in general now?

Ah, I misunderstood. My bad.

Look, if I go out at all I only ever go to places where I'm just in and out in a couple of minutes tops. I have a kind of throaty condition that gives me kind of a "gag reflex" if I eat foods with skins (like some kinds of beans, etc.) and wearing a mask for much longer than that begins to trigger it. I'm not, like, hanging out in malls or going to the peaceful protests or anything or even driving around wearing it. The total wear time of my mask is like... maybe 30 minutes over 4 months.

I know I come off as an arrogant prick, and that I consistently set about busting chops. I'm going to drop that for a moment and try to be straight about this.

I understand your take on this stuff. Not perfectly, sure, but enough to get where you're coming from.

I get that using a mask for a 20 minutes, give or take, doesn't sound like a big deal. That's not the problem, though.

The huge deal here is that it's been "bouncing around your car" for 4 months. Cars, even well maintained ones, are still pretty germy. And having that mask "bounce" paints a picture of this thing being on seats and floors and just being grody as all get out. There's dirt on the floors. People's asses go on those chairs.

There has to be a better place to store that mask, dude. Or pick less colorful language when describing it. I dunno, man. That just set off all sorts of alarms.

Mm, it just gets hung around my rear view mirror up top when I'm not wearing it (which is all the time, except about 5 seconds before I go into a store). And bacteria and such... I think literally the only other person to be in my car other than me since March is my daughter, when I go to pick her up.
