Right. Kill a movie because the first draft of a script wasn't so hot. Smart. Real smart. Genius even.

i couldn't figure it out but is Splinter an alien also? seemed like he was from Dimension X, too. i didn't really understand the need for Splinter telling the Turtles a made-up origin to fool them, how does that protect them from Krang? maybe i just missed it.
i wouldn't say there's any best revelation in there, it all seems very generic and boring to me, even if it wasn't TMNT, it's bland all around, very run-of-the-mill action crap. i did like April doing web news, though. maybe the worst revelation is that there are no mutants, no ninjas (the ninja backstory is basically nonexistent other than martial arts action that you can find anywhere), and no turtles. there are teenagers, i'll give 'em that. i hate the prophecy/chosen one/destiny baloney, that might the single worst part about it for me (other than the wtf Raph dialogue), why is everyone obsessed with destiny and Chosen Ones these days? why can't something just be an accident or coincidence? i almost want to see this get made as-is, though, i love a good trainwreck. we've been through Coming Out Of Their Shells and Turtle Tunes, this is nothing. I like a bad movie as much as the next guy, but I think this would cause a dangerous brain aneurism.

The chosen ones / prophecy stuff is pretty lame in general, but in this script it's really, really stupid as it's been a prophecy for what...less than 20 years? That's not even a prophecy, that's just "well get these kids outta here and hopefully they can pull something off when they grow up".

I can imagine Shrader or whatever his name is played by a black man or a Russian or a German or anything that's not Asian/
To add more insult to injury, Shredder won't be played by a Japanese actor. |

Ok...I'll let James Avery and Kevin Michael Richardson know how you feel.

This screenplay has been rejected. At the very least, it's being retooled. And it was very likely, given that 5 months passed between this script and Paramount shutting it down to shuffle out a new budget and a more satisfying screenplay. So it is very logical that this screenplay has changed several times by now, making it very illogical for you to get your panties in a bunch over casting decisions based on this script. Mostly, we are discussing the quality of this screenplay, under the assumption that it will probably change greatly. It has been said several times that this screenplay probably won't closely reflect the eventual film. Screenplays change as much as the wind. And, on bigger films, Hollywood has a tendency to use a lot of screenwriters, whether or not you see their credit. They also use uncredited script doctors to go in smooth things out, often the dialogue. Quentin Tarantino and Joss Whedon both have been uncredited script doctors. Tarantino did work on Crimson Tide, while Whedon worked on Speed and Twister. When the whole Alien thing came out, it was like the shot heard around the world. It wasn't just fans who were upset over it, it was almost anybody who grew up with these characters. Michael Bay might be stubborn about it, but Paramount is another story. If anyone involved in the production is second guessing that, it'll be the studio execs. That may or may not have anything to do with shutting it down, but their were "budgetary concerns." Another problem with the script for me is sounds like it would make a better video game than a movie. |

The whole Schradder = Shredder thing is just bad. I can just see the writers elbowing the producers as they read it "Get it....right...Schradder...Shredder....ahhh, you get it* (tussles producers hair)"
Whatever draft this is, we should all be ready for a really bad movie. I can't imagine any amount of rewrites fixing this. I still don't understand how producers/whoever is funding this, don't look at what the original movies grossed (Movie 1 =$135,265,915, 2 = $78,656,813, and 3 = 42,273,609). The further you get away from the comics the less money you make. |

Good point sgt. And the good ideas from rejected scrips often do end up used later on. "Superman Returns", for example, had a few scenes cribbed from the various god-awful scripts that came and went over the years, specifically the "listening from space" scene.
I think the Schrader thing was awful and pointless, and the "prophecy" nonsense. I could possibly handle the TMNT being from Dimension X but the way they did it in the script was atrocious, predictable, and it's been done in a million movies already. It's just a lazy, lazy script. Not one original idea in there. I wasn't expecting gold by any stretch, but this was a clear hack-and-paste job. Emphasis on "Hack".
