Lol I'm sorry I didn't mean it in a bad way- most people would just rather eat at someplace where they can get a nice meal rather than the kind of cheap junk in fast food places. And given where you DID eat I find it doubly funny. I work at a McDs so I know what the food is like. (Where was that anyway?) Ours did not close at all today.

ACK! Why did I give that link a hit!
I knew it was going to be unbridled stupid when I saw the URL appear in my search bar.

Our six month old kitten is very sick.
I noticed early this morning that he had jaundice on his skin, and my parents had to come down to my house at 6 in the morning to take him to our preferred vet. He has pneumonia and Haemobartonellosis. The good news is that he's eating and drinking, but my dad thinks that he might have died if I hadn't caught how bad it was. He'd been lethargic for a while. He's at my mom's house being loaded up on antibiotics, steroids, and sub-q fluids. They're passing of their foster kitten to another family so he won't get sick too. At least there, he can learn to get along with dogs.

Was considering getting "skeleton flower" seeds for my mom (as a stocking stuffer) from eBay, but given the time of year and closeness to Christmas I'd rather go with a US seller just to ensure that it wouldn't take long to show up AND I'm not sure if a long duration of cold in shipment this time of year would be okay or not. (It's a native of Japan and China so our winters prob wouldn't be an issue here, but that's a dormant rooted plant, not so sure about unplanted seeds surviving the mail.)
The grind with this is that there is ONE U.S. seller listed. And in the state next door. (Great!) Problem is... this person has a lot of seed listings for fruits and flowers with pictures that look really obviously Photoshopped unnatural colors of blue, etc., things that a google search agrees do not exist, so I feel like I can't trust this seller to be legit. Spoiler:
On the flip side, I ran across multiple listings for this...um...plant? Spoiler:
The listings claim that you'll be sent seeds for it. But it looks so painfully obviously fake and like something right out of Mario Brothers. (Plus a little Audrey 2.) If it had claimed to send the plant and it was just pretend and you'd get someone's cute handmade thing, fine, but seeds...? That will never grow into this fake plant with a human-like mouth and an obvious glaze coating? Not to mention the fake wood behind it clearly made of the same material. Yet these listings collectively have a rather surprising number of sales. One had a couple of unhappy reviews after the dirt they were sent grew nothing. (No kidding...) Humanity never ceases to amaze me with how dumb they can be. Last edited by IndigoErth; 11-28-2016 at 09:12 PM. |

The update is he's doing fine...except for not eating canned wet food anymore because he's discovered that my mom is hiding pills in it.
In a basic grind, one that I'm not sure if I've discussed it, but it really, REALLY grinds my gears. And that is when aliens of advanced civilizations don't use surnames. From a writing perspective, it would be really, really helpful. Especially while I'm trying to work out my own Utrom Society "Bible" in a combination of what we know, with my own headcanons. I mean...there's absolutely no way that General Krang is the only Utrom named Krang in the entirety of the Utrom population when it was thriving.

Funny... humans didn't use surnames until we became a little more advanced and numerous. So you'd think more advanced beings would at least use some kind of personal signifier or something; such as a personal symbol after their name that no one else uses or is related to their kinship.

I'm my own worst enemy, doubly so when I am feeling down. Which lately has been far too often.

Not a gear grinder as such but definitely put a damper on the last few days. Hubby went to the hospital again on Thanksgiving morning- I was working that day(since they were too Scroogy to close so employees could be with family) and didn't come home until yesterday. They also have been jerking him around about his meds and dialysis treatment while he was there. Then on Sunday morning I went in and found out that one of my coworkers had died over the weekend. She was there to pick up her check Wednesday and worked Thanksgiving morning (she left early) and had seemed fine then. When she didn't show up on Friday or Saturday someone went to her house to check on her- she had passed away in her sleep according to what I was told. So today I picked up our local paper which had her obit in it. She was also a former neighbor of ours and had even had the same upstairs apartment we used to be in at one time- she had locked herself out of it once and broke her hip trying to climb in through the window. She was 70, but it was still a shock when I heard. She had worked there for 33 yrs.

Aw, that's sad, Duckie, sorry to hear about your co-worker/former neighbor. At least she went the easiest way (or so many of us living tend to assume). 70 is too soon though.
Hope things calm down again with Mr. D and you guys can have a nice, calm holiday(s) without issue. Grind... think I strained a couple different areas of my back (or core since I've felt it in my chest a couple of times which worried me some) from work. Don't want to see the holidays come and go too quickly, but I'll be glad when the retail side of it is over. |

A definite gear grind- tomorrow I turn 40. As much as Cubed bemoans the loss of his youth, I am feeling my age even more so. Mainly due to the fact that (assuming I make it to 80 barring accidents major illness or what-have-you) literally half my life has gone by. The depressing part is that I feel like I've accomplished very little. My biggest "accomplishment" was one I had never even planned. That would be my "duckling". I'd like to think I had some influence, but I haven't even seen her since she was two. Somehow that just makes the age thing even more depressing.

Ouch. I hope it's a good birthday, and a start on a pretty good, um, slightly older age.
Yeah, I hear ya on getting this far and not feeling like you've accomplished much. I wouldn't want to be early 20s again, but I wouldn't mind having that optimism back, back when I somehow believed that I'd manage to do more with my life by this point. |

I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I was my father's first born child at the age of 42 (my mother was 26). It might be halfway, but there's still a long way to go.
For the last several days, I've been having a pain in my right hand. I don't know if it's carpal tunnel or not, though. But it's been a while, and it's my dominant hand. I'm not drawing nearly as much as I used to, but it might be from typing a lot?

Sunday kind of work hours on a Saturday, oh joy.
Expected that there was a big ad to set (aka all the paper sale signs), only to find there was just a moderate one that should have actually been done by people who were there yesterday. (And therefor they weren't even in the system anymore - although not having to scan them does make it a little easier.) So a co-worker and I look at each other like wtf... Why are we even here at 7am. >.> And then go back just as early tomorrow, because all of those signs expire after today and we have to replace them tomorrow anyhow. It would be so nice, and far more environmentally friendly, if the sale signs were all digital and automatic. Large appliances does have some of those, but that's the only department. (The massive amount of paper that is wasted and gone through constantly bugs me, and that's just this one store out of many...) Then there is the co-worker who has a habit of disappearing or otherwise not being very helpful. I swear, if there is ever an opportunity to casually mention it to my manager I may. Not that I haven't good naturedly, lightly hinted to said co-worker that she could have been doing other more productive things when she chooses to spend time on things that are not important when other stuff could get done. Rearranging a display, esp of clothing, because you need space, is one thing. Rearranging the area of kids cheap junky play jewelry sets etc for... well, no reason... not helpful and definitely an off-season slow day kind of thing. 10/4 - The stupid petty, anal behavior of businesses over crap that should not even matter. Got into work today to find a hand written sign posted under the counter around the last and rarely used register on the second floor telling anyone around there that that space can not be used for storing anything and must be kept clear at "ALL TIMES." Wtf. Sure, I can understand that it can get a bit junky around that last counter because that tends to be where cashiers drop returns, where people set stuff with missing pieces and other junk we just don't know what to do with (because god forbid we get any help or guidance around there). And unfortunately there is often not enough time to deal with that and everything else. A little bit of stuff should not be a big deal, but I guess having that empty is how the idiots at 'regional' want it. The thing that pisses me off... (besides the fact that I'm mad at that big 'note' and how it was written that I find really unprofessional after ZERO communication about this!) is that it is JUST FINE for us to be understaffed and struggling with not have nearly enough help to get things done, yet of course they (regional, corporate, or whoever) want it all done and efficiently despite staff shortage and frequent technology issues. That is perfectly OKAY. BUT I can't leave a pen tucked in that space under the counter for when I need one now and then. DEAR GOD NO, NOT AN INK PEN! Imagine the horrible things that would do for business! I mean, the customers might stop showing up if they knew I had a PEN there. I hate humanity. They've already replaced the store manager and the next one down. If their plan is to keep pulling this crap and make the place miserable, I've got news for them... they pull that then I'm out of there and sending them a message about how they ruined the great atmosphere it had when I started last year. There IS some folded up plastic whatever the hell it is still in that space, that's been there for quite some time and no idea what it is, doesn't look like bags, just plastic of some sort... I swear, I kept feeling like if it was my mother who'd left that note, I'd have pulled that crap out of there too and thrown it aside somewhere it won't be found when needed. OH WELL. That side of me wants so bad to bluntly ask a manager if we should get rid of it too. Seeing as how that space isn't really empty. Last edited by IndigoErth; 12-04-2016 at 02:54 PM. |

I learned this morning that my friend's cat died .
She was 18 years old and she had a seizure. I've met her twice, since my friend lives in Minnesota.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's always hard to lose a pet. Your friend has my condolences.
Indigo I completely know what you mean. I once worked in a department store as well- doing essentially the same thing you do, but only in the cosmetic department. And let me tell you they were just as anal and nit-picky then. We had an entire shelf section of the stockroom that was supposed to remain empty for I don't know what reason. And I had to be in at 6 AM every day to stock and set up display tables for sales. Sometimes as early as 4. It sucked. And most of the day I worked completely alone, since it was just one department and the sales clerks didn't come in until much later.
