Beetlejuice 2

It's coming...with Michael Keaton back in the role. Tim Burton is close to signing on as director..

Ack. Hopefully it WON'T be at all connected with the "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian" script that's been floating around since 5 minutes after the first movie came out. Not only was that stupid, it essentially copied the first one entirely, just in Hawaii. Sad Fact: Originally, the entire point of a Beetlejuice sequel was 100% to have an extended Wynona Ryder Bikini Scene, and that's all. And while I'd definitely have welcomed that then, and may be up for it now, it's about 20 years past the selling point.

I do hope she's in the sequel, though. If they come up with something entirely different from the one they've wanted to do for 20 years, it could be OK. I do love that movie, but there's really no strong reason to revisit it, it stands on its own. I kind of feel like a sequel would immediately become a parody of itself, like "Wayne's World 2." Yeah, it has its moments, but it really doesn't hold up at all to the first. Beetlejuice is so great, I can't see a sequel coming even close. Guess we'll see.

Would be interesting to see a sequel. It's not like he "died" in the first movie, though it's implied but he's shown more or less fine at the end

I think it would actually be great just as long as tim burton is in it. Would be great for kids in this era to see something similar to what we saw but with a different twist and more cgi. But great idea in my mind

It could be cool. I do hope it's a new story, though, and not just Beetlejuice with a new family or whatever. I'm curious to see if they get Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Winona Ryder back.

I could see them going the "Drop Dead Fred" route... Wynona Ryder's character as an adult, still being bugged by Beetlejuice at inopportune times. I doubt they'll ground the movie at the same house and I kind of doubt we'd see the Baldwin/Davis ghosts again.

I doubt that would even be addressed.

Why on earth do they keep making sequels of movies from 20 years ago? When has this ever worked?

It worked in "The Color of Money." It worked in Rambo 4. It worked in Rocky Balboa. It arguably worked in Tron Legacy.

Part of me feels like it should be entirely its own thing and not address anything from the first movie too closely, if at all. For one, a long enough time has passed that your mind could just make up whatever's happened to get from then to now. Secondly, Beetlejuice is less about story (although the story is great) and more about being simultaneously hilarious and creepy/bizarre as f*ck. You could do that a million ways with a million characters.

On the other hand, I really love to see Wynona Ryder in anything and I think she needs the money. I would not be sad if she was in it.

The title is misleading, Michael Keaton has not officially signed on. Its just as much a rumor as Burton directing at this point.

Even in the article you link to it says that he is in talks to reprise the role, theres no signed papers yet.

True.

It's sad to me, as this is the only Burton movie I'm really interested in seeing. Instead, next it will be "Tim Burton's Pinocchio" or something.
