Yeah, this is one of those times when I can honestly say that Kevin Munroe's TMNT movie -- while horrible in its own right -- was much better than anything we were going to get previous to it. Pretty much everything I've read or seen about TMNT IV pre-Munroe movie was spectacularly awful.

I remember visiting ninjaturtles.com back in 1997, the site was crap back then with no real info on it, but there were always movie rumors posted on the site.
I think Venus might have become much more well known if she had appeared in a movie. As it is now, Venus and the Next Mutation could be quietly swept under a rug because of how short-lived that show was. But if she appeared in a movie? Not so much. People still remember Batman and Robin, don't they? With Arnold as Mr. Freeze and Batman's credit card and Robin being a dick. |

Ah childhood, how easy it was to actually like bad shows/movies back when I was young!
It's probably the only reason I can actually watch Batman+Robin and Next Mutation today, on some level they make me feel like a kid again, even though I know how bad they are. |

Regarding that supposed silhouette of "Kirby" in this poster, I can't help but think it's just a quick edit of this Mike Dooney poster from the TMNT Magazines:

So I am curious why was the 4th live action never produced? Was it due to lack of direction, was it due to the cancellation of Next Mutation? Was it due to the fall of TMNT??

Because the studio kept bringing forth crap/hack scripts and Peter and Kevin kept vetoing them, over and over again. Too bad they didn't veto the Munroe script too.

Because Hollywood doesn't work that way and they're not screenwriters (and they weren't bankrolling the movie themselves). That said, at one point Peter Laird himself DID do up a 20 page treatment to steer them on the right track but it was ignored entirely and they just had to go back to vetoing the horrible scripts they'd get.

Dumb question, but did anything ever mention a bandana/headband color for Kirby? You think something as major as introducing another turtle would have a color in mind pretty early, especially if it was planned for toys.

Awesome article, had never seen more than half of this stuff and I'm glad I got a chance to now.
Some of the artwork was pretty cool, but it all just leaves me thinking what if? |
