Part of what makes Sonic CD so loved by many is the level design. Most Sonic games are about simply getting to the goal, where Sonic CD encourages exploration. Part of the fun is memorizing which route is the fastest and safest or trying different ways to activate the time travel. Every level always has at least one area with two springs that bounce you back and fourth, making the time travel mechanic effortless to use. It's also unique for offering two ways to get the good ending. You could either travel back into the past and destroy the robot generator in each Zone or you could simply go for the Time Stones.

I can easily see why some people can call it "horrible level design". Sonic CD requries more thought then "I get Sonic to end!" to be properly appreciated.

No. Exploration is done in other Sonic games, but better. There isn't ever just one path in any level, so what you're saying is invalid.

When did I ever say there was one path?

You didn't? I was saying that to reiterate the fact that exploration is encouraged in other Sonic games.

It is, especially with the Special Stage rings in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I'm just saying that Sonic CD encourages it more, what with the robot generators and time travel.

Oh here we go. 'You didn't get iiiit'.

The whole thing with Sonic is the speed and the very specific kind of platforming that brought along. You slap that in clunky levels and you eliminate both. The level design IS clunky, you ever look at a pulled out map of one? It's a nightmare of random blocks and ramps to nowhere.

You can say it encourages exploration all you want but I'm not usually encouraged to do anything when the tools I am given are shoddy.

I'd rather play those stupid Knuckles treasure hunt sections from SA2...and I hate those!

Those Knuckles levels from SA2 really were pretty bad, I forgot about those.

Actually no. I gave my opinion and you came in and implied that I didn't 'get it', bit of a difference.

The last boss in Sonic Generations is also terrible.

Please excuse others for having different opinions. Let's keep this peaceful.

In other news...official human Sonic manga and anime coming out.

What.

It's actually been done before, albeit in some hentai. Sonic CulT has a couple of sample pages to view. He looks more like Sonic, though.

Only if it continues down that path, which I'm not interested in doing.

Has anyone ever seen the Sonic anime? I think it's the same animation team that did the cut scenes in Sonic CD. Anyway, I think it's a fun watch. I don't like the voices and I haven't gotten the chance to watch it in Japanese yet. I definitely think it represents the games better than anything DiC put out.

I loved it, even the voices. The soundtrack was just epic.

Someone remade the classic Sonic Vs. Metal Sonic scene from the movie in CG.

You mean Sonic OVA? I loved that movie as a kid and still do.

I kind of agree English voice actors are rather sketchy (Tails sounding like he has a cold) but I think it adds a certain charm to fairly light-hearted tone the film has and is still leagues better than 06' could manage.

I remeber seeing that awhile back. I thought it was pretty nice.

But I have still really cared for Sonic over the years through the Archie Comic Series. My favorite character however is Knuckles. And actually two days ago I just watched some episodes from season 2 of The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. I prefer SatAM though. So yeah big Sonic fan here!
Sweet, Knuckles and Shadow are my favorites.

I still play the classics now and then, favorite being Sonic 2. I really disliked Sonic 3D Blast *shiver*

The thing I like the most about Sonic games is that they are fast paced.
