Report: E3 2020 To Be Canceled

https://www.gameinformer.com/2020/03...to-be-canceled

Ars Technica is reporting through multiple sources that the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) will cancel this year's E3 trade show in Los Angeles.

The website was informed last night, and shortly after Ars was tipped off publisher Devolver tweeted: "Cancel your E3 Flights and hotels, y'all."

Later, Bloomberg ran a story that included that the official cancelation announcement from the ESA will happen today, March 11, at 9:30 a.m. Pacific according to "a person familiar with the matter."

Bloomberg is further reporting that the ESA has sent a private memo to partners that says it is considering holding E3 as an online event this summer.

If E3 is indeed canceled, it would be the latest domino to fall in a chain of events created by the coronavirus that has caused game delays, companies sending workers home, and the postponement of GDC from this month, among other disruptions.

It will be very sad.
E3, alongside with EVO, was one of the very few things throughout the year I've treated with anticipation. But health of people are more important, I guess.

Of course, devs and pubs will use this to delay few projects to their advantage.

Can't understand people who are glad that E3 might be canceled or say things like: "It should have been canceled years ago in favor of online presentations". Guess, those ****ing neckbeards can't handle being in the crowd and want everyone to be shut ins like them.

****.
I hope EVO and Euro (or is it FIFA this year?) won't fall victims to panic?

So let's just cancel everything, because Coronavirus is out there? It's going to be out there a year from now, probably.

Right decision. The virus is real, folks. We're dealing with it here in Italy. People are dying. Avoiding mass gatherings is the only way to prevent the virus from spreading further.

We had to move on from cancelling actual people because society caught on and won't do it as eagerly anymore. So now we need to cancel events.

I mean it's either that or people don't want to get sick.

The way E3 was going to be this year based on reports, it's probably good that coronavirus happened and it was cancelled because of that. Now they have a year to actually plan an event where there isn't negative hype towards the event as there was this year.

Was there?
I haven't followed it, but if I had to pencil whip a guess, I'd have guessed people would be excited because of this year's new system cycle...

Companies have been pulling out since last year (or 2) and this year was worse, Sony pulled out among a few others, Geoff Keighley who is famous for his E3 coverage he does pulled out, and in general "journalists" have been complaining ever since the ESA allowed the general public in so it wasn't an exclusive show.

E3 has always been a trade show where executives meet and make deals, the entertainment aspect can be replaced for the average person through digital events but not the business one. However with all the bad press it did seem like E3 was going to likely die slowly but now it has an excuse to not do a poor show this year and organize for the next.
