Won't You Be My Neighbor. Mr Rogers Documentary

Focus Features has debuted the first Won’t You Be My Neighbor? clip. The documentary is set to make its world premiere at Sundance, and it focuses on Fred Rogers and his groundbreaking TV series. In this clip, we see the explanation of how everything on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood should have set the series up for failure, and yet it all managed to work thanks to the inherent decency and power of Fred Rogers’ message.

Documentaries like this are essential at Sundance where, after days of seeing dark and gritty indies, you could just use something nice and uplifting. Additionally, director Morgan Neville made a splash at Sundance a few years ago when he debuted the terrific 20 Feet from Stardom, and I’m excited to see his follow-up feature. I assume the documentary will also tackle some of the more outlandish Fred Rogers urban legends like “He wore sweaters to cover up all his tattoos,” and “He killed dozens of people in the Vietnam War.” I assume those urban legends exist because it’s too much for us to wrap our heads around, “A nice man created a nice TV show about the importance of being nice.”

I swear some of Mr Rogers's Spirit went to Rob Paluson he is literally the Mr Rogers of Voice Acting.

March 6th 8pm on PBS Micheal Keaton will be hosting a Retrospective called Mr Rogers Its You I Like.

The Movie hits Sundance Thursday and Hits theaters June 8th

I've never seen Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, I never even heard of it somehow until I was in my teens, but I always love reading articles about that guy. He always seems to come across as one the nicest and respectable people who ever lived.

So while I don't have any childhood nostalgia with the show, I am interested in seeing this documentary because I've always found this unbelievably kind gentleman so interesting.

He pretty much was. Will definitely be seeing this.

Apparently Keaton worked on the show as part of the crew back in the day.

"I worked at a PBS station called WQED in Pittsburgh," the actor said during an interview on "Live with Kelly and Michael." "When you worked at QED, you kind of did everything ... so you would work on Fred's crew from time to time."

"[He] was one of the nicest, authentically good people you've ever met," he said. "Really good dude [with] kind of a sneaky, sly great sense of humor."
