I have a young niece and nephew. If I tried to pull some kind of time travel trick with them, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't care so much about the logistics of time travel and more about whatever weird time-traveler kitsch/outfit I put on. Also keep in mind all of these kids are females so Campbell is probably playing up the stereotype.
If one of the kids were a boy then I can imagine he'd ask a question relevant to time travel, because he's probably played a video game about it. (Also were the weasels ever human anyway? I don't think they'd give a **** about time travel at all.) My issues with Campbell's run don't come from this out of nowhere time travel story (besides the fact that it is literally out of nowhere) but because it is like a 18-wheeler crashing through the wall of the whole Mutant Town story, a story that was on its own already spinning its wheels in a narrative ditch for a long ass time. So this all comes off as disorienting. But I will gladly take this over the Amber Waves of Cringe that was Mona Lisa preaching to thousands of scared, unwashed, hopeless, hungry, and should be panicked mutated humans about free and fair elections. What I meant was, season 6 is when the producers ran out of book material and had to wing it going off GRRM's broad (broooad) outline, and it showed. |

But this has nothing to do with the second to last season "reading" like a synopsis of a bunch of events and not a fully formed season of episodes like the last bunch. And the final season being bull**t.

Yeah, I forgot to add that both those seasons needed the customary ten episodes to fully breathe and tell the story they needed to tell. And I suspect even then Jaime's ending would still have reeked of ********. |

Oh yeah, Karai didn’t actually know that Jennika had become a turtle. I guess they haven’t met since the War and the Turtles really haven’t had direct contact with the Foot since then.
You know, I’m sort of torn here. I’m not for vigilante murder, even putting possible bad future tripping events aside, but Karai really did get off scott free despite being responsible not only for Jennika but who knows how many people who died in the City at War arc, not to mention, indirectly that lead to Splinter’s death as well. All to obtain leadership of the Foot when Splinter was going to just give it to her anyway, because she wanted to, and I still can’t get over this, MURDER A BUNCH OF ORPHANS. Which she then failed to do. It’d be like if on the eve of Britain handing over Hong Kong to Communist China, China suddenly demanded a bunch of British children and started a war in which thousands died, then took Hong Kong by force anyway and declared victory. Like technically, I suppose you won? What I’m getting around to is...she has got a lot to answer for. Her whole arc in the TMNT Universe comics was about her proving she is ready to leave the Foot, after Splinter had demonstrated what a true leader was to her by defeating Shredder, but she went back and let herself be manipulated by Kitsune into starting a pointless war that almost doomed everyone, including her, until she had to be saved by Splinter from the returning Dragon. Now she’s got the Foot involved in mutant child slave trade. She’s proven herself in my mind LESS fit to lead the Foot than when she left it with Splinter. It is interesting to see Karai bring about the Turtles reincarnation and how that parallels to Jennika. I’m not sure if she is mentioning it just to make that point to the reader if they hadn’t thought about it before or if she’s trying to mess with Jennika’s head in some way.

Karai pumped up on ooze would be a frickin' nightmare. What would be ironic is if she needed a blood transfusion from Jenny to get better. Maybe getting it from a mutated human doesn't trigger a transformation, just the healing effect.

If that were to happen. She'll turn into a Snake Mutant like the 2012 version.

...Aaaaaand just like that, we suddenly know that's what Karai's next arc in the comic will be.
Leave it to 'Claw to crack the code.

Hmm, hadn’t thought of it from that angle. I suppose a dark twist would be Jenny deliberately mutating Karai as a opposed to killing her.

actually that would fit in with my theory of karai being a band member for "harmony".

Snake Karai is such a bad idea that I totally foresee it happening. It absolutely tracks that we'll be lead into thinking that Jennika is going to kill her and fulfill the dark future only at the last pages to see her just mutate her because "that is how she (Jenny) was murdered.)
Y'know if anything this preview does point out something interesting. The Turtles themselves were literally beheaded and then found new life as mutants. Jennika being mutated was something that Donnie and Leo decided to do in order to save her life no matter what the cost. Shouldn't Jennika resent them in some way instead of filling out the Sentai bench? She is always going on about Karai "murdering her" but literally it was the Turtles saving her life that lead to the mutation. As far as Jennika's life being over, the only thing that really changed was that Casey is out of the picture and that was only really even hinted at in the mini series. She's got a clan to be a part of and she's seemingly even more involved in the community than the turtles themselves. She has friends, students and a new relationship. She's been a resident of Mutant Town almost the entirety of her mutation so it isn't like she had to hide 24/7 with no human interaction like the TMNT did for years. Yes she was Chunin and was dating Casey but now she seems to have a lot more going on post mutation. Shouldn't that be positive? The arc is slowly, slowly building toward Karai & Hob are the bad guys and we need to give them the payback that they deserve. That's the easy play that probably won't really have much of a reward in the long run. The fact that mutant town was made to be such a bubble really limited the huge world that IDW TMNT was and refocused it on a bunch of random mutant folks who aren't going to matter to much in the long run. (I just had to Google Sheena's name, do you think I should grade my first appearances of her?) Maybe I'm being harsh but there is so much left on the back burner here it's getting burnt. Null literally employs soldiers that can shift between mutant and human forms. Sally Pride has seen this with her own eyes and has never brought it up. Null who was introduced for the seemingly sole purpose of being a foreshadowing factory may never have her own arc in the main book. I hate sounding like a broken record. I just want to be able to enjoy this book like I used to, I really miss feeling excited to pick this up every month. |

It's possible that Sally is well aware of the double-edged sword the 'mutation-control' equipment poses. Sure we've seen it's effects on human-born mutants, but we haven't seen what it would do to an animal-born mutant like Sally or even Hob. It might turn them back into regular animals or it might do something entirely different and I'm pretty sure that Sally is very aware of this and is smart enough to understand that at the very least it would be a huge risk to the animal-born mutant's sapience - the very thing that makes them who they are.

Oh, snap(ping turtle)! That ending!
So apparently Jennika has watched Avengers: Endgame... I laughed so hard every time Renet showed up, and especially the third time with Mikey's remark at the end! Aaand Rocksteady is now my favorite character ever for his foot-- er, handling of Sheena. Loved the exchange and parallel between Jenny and Donnie, good stuff there. Did not expect her to mutter that during the argument. Damn. Great issue after such a long crossing of the desert, as it were. |

While the last couple of issues have been kind of 50/50 this issue itself was overall pretty good.
