Not a comic book sequel, but after Dr. Doolittle 2 Eddie Murphy stopped being in the sequels...but did that stop them...NOOO!! There are now 3 DTV sequels to the series, all sans Murphy, or even Raven, only Kayla Pratt and "Mom" make an appearance in these sequels. Dr. Doolittle is mentioned though.

And that's just one example. There were also some problems with how they portrade the turtles' personalities, because again, if the movie was based off the comics, the personalities were a bit off then. Raph was the closest to his Mirage counterpart, but the other three were definetly off. Mikey isn't nearly as silly. Don is also more serious. And Leo is more stoic and shrewd. He wouldn't really squabble with Raph. He'd be more like "Okay, Raph.. You're doing that stupid thing again where you act like an idiot, so go out for your "fresh air" and come back when you smarten up". Leo also wouldn't just lunge at Shredder carelessly. He has way more tact in the comics. You can clearly see how successful his hits are in issue 1 of the Mirage comics. I can go on, but I think the point got across. Now as for the second movie... It's based more so on the 80s show (and likewise the Archie TMNT comics) rather than the Mirage comics this time, so for what it was, it was good, zany, cartoonish fun. I also really really love Donatello in the second movie. He was way more outgoing and savvy and slick and charismatic and extremely witty than all the other versions of Don. I think for the first and only time, Don's personality was so strong that he didn't need to be defined as the "smarty tech guy". Last edited by Ryona; 12-16-2008 at 08:51 AM. |

Let's take a look: - The Turtles win their first battle, and excitedly come home to tell their sensei. - Turtles rescue April and bring her to their sewer home. - The Turtles' origin. A bit abridged, but you get the point. - Splinter goes missing and the place is trashed so the Turtles move in with April. - One Turtle goes out, which in this case it's Raph because it makes more sense with him going out all the time in the first movie, and gets beaten up pretty bad. - The apartment is invaded, the Turtles fight the Foot, Casey shows up, the place is lit on fire, then they escape to a farm house! - They spend a lot of time on the farm before finally getting the resolve to go back and face the Foot again. - Splinter's origin. No Nagi, but you get the point. - The Turtles take the Shredder on in a rooftop battle that ends with Shredder falling off the side of the building to his doom (by a garbage truck instead of a grenade, but whatever). To say that, because they didn't do it exactly like the comics, that it isn't based off the comics makes it seem like you're just TRYING to get people stirred up or something. Sure, it's not in the same order as the comics, but it's clearly inspired from the comics a lot more than any other Turtles media (besides 2k3). By your logic, I could say that 2k3 isn't true to the comics because Mikey's silly and Leo squabbles with Raph. Also, the Mouser ordeal happened before the rooftop battle with the Shredder, in which it was a water tower that finished the fight instead of a grenade. Also, with Shredder being an Utrom and all, 2k3 is definitely not comic-based by your logic. Seriously. |

Secret of the Ooze... Archie... How?? I see no relation between the two other than what came from TMNTA's cartoon adap roots.

As for me, the first TMNT movie trumps SotO because it is more closely related to the Mirage comics, but still integrates the Old Toon as well. SotO was way to kiddiefied, which makes it lose something for me as an adult, but the first movie has a more adult edge, and as an adult, I can find more and more subtly to the film and it's character portrayals. As for Mikey, Donnie, and Leo being out of character, Donnie suffers the most for this. Mikey is as he appears in the cartoon, toned down a bit. Leo seemed right to me, but my Mirage experiences come more from the NT than the actual comics, but both Leos seem fairly similar and are based on the same sources...so... I think part of your problem with Barron's film is that Leo story elements shift to Raph, but why does it matter that much? For the over all story it just made more sence for it to happen to Raph. And as for Leo lunging at Shredder, even the most skilled warrior would react with blind rage if they thought the person they faced slew their father in cold blood.
