It's not a mini-comic, but it's a smaller-sized trade paperback.

Also, I take it there are both hardback and softcover printings?
Yes, there are. Although the hardback version rarely surfaces.

Thanks, Rose. I asked because on the new MirageLicensing site it is being listed as a "mini-comic format graphic novel." I'm guessing it isn't quite as small as the Mirage Mini-Comics, then.

Well, I'm not 100% sure. Height and width-wise they might be the same, but "mini-comic" isn't really an accurate description of Challenges. The Mirage mini-comics, however, are true mini-comics.

And if you don't have Challenges, you need to buy it. Period.

So I hear.

I mean, hey, it's Michael Dooney. Even if he penciled the art for a story written by a baboon high on the eggnog it would be worth owning right?

It's a good read. They actually used Raph's story as a side story in a 2k3 episode. It's Dooney, so it's definitely worth it.

Digging up this thread.

I'm searching for this book now but since we are ten years later from when this thread was made, now it's harder to find one in good shape for a normal price. I've been waiting for one to end up on Ebay for over a year now and still nothing (overpriced or bad shape) and Mirage doesnt sell those anymore. So is there another way to get this? (I don't think IDW will reprint that one)

Does anyone know the worth of the hardcover (not signed) in A or A- condition? I can’t seem to find another, only TPB. Is it that rare? Thank you in advance

I'm still gratified that I ordered the softcover from ninjaturtles.com and got the hardcover in the mail like 23 years ago. Who knows if it was a mixup or whatnot, but I've always liked to believe it was Dan doing me a solid. I'll never know.

That’s awesome. I received one from mirage licensing years back, as well. That’s why I was trying to figure out it’s worth and how rare the HC was.

I didn't get a hardcover Challenges (I have the softcover though), but I got a few extra comics I needed with some of my Mirage orders, which was always a welcome surprise.

As for the hardcover Challenges, there were 500 of them according to ads in Volume 1 (not sure of the issues off-hand, but in the 40s).

Yeah, and each one is probably individually numbered. Mine is.

Only got the softcover but that’s worth a bit too, paid like $5 for it

Mind showing it? I just checked mine and couldn't find numbering, only the mention of 500 copies on dust jacket.

I ordered 2 copies from Mirage years ago and think I ended up with both versions but then sold one... I think. Not sure where it currently is in my collection being that its digest sized (ish) so its not in with all the other books. Now I'll have to look for it and take pictures.
