Do you still use Facebook?
I feel like people use FB less and less each year. It's no longer as popular or active as it was back in 2010-2013. It could depend on the country, but I feel like most people in their 20s that I know are more active on Instagram nowadays. Worldwide it seems like Twitter has been growing ever year lately as well.
I still keep FB out of habit. It has a built in messenger feature in it and it's where a lot of people I went to Uni are with are reachable through a click. But it seems like only a handful of people in my list still post stuff on FB regularly. The rest mostly seem to just use it for the messenger app. I do feel that people still ask for your FB profile when they wanna keep in touch with you, though. never had someone irl ask me if I had IG or Twitter in order to keep in touch with me. I feel like FB is more of a personal thing while on IG and Twitter people are more likely to follow/add and be followed/added by strangers. |

Was not a big user to start with, though in the past several months I've mostly fallen away from using it for the most part. Most of that however is due to it becoming so painfully SLOW with my browser, to the point this spring that it became no longer worth the frustration. Maybe it's not just me?
I've installed a lesser known browser that still supports my OS and somehow that one makes a world of difference. Though I haven't yet gotten back in the habit of using FB much. (Even though I kind of need to for certain cases and I feel bad about being so MIA.) I'm a little baffled how my computer is fine, my browser remains the same since it's Firefox's ESR version (unless the company has purposely done something to affect users?), and though FB (and certain other sites) does seem to be getting more and more bloated on the scripts and is in part to blame...this other lesser known browser seems to handle it much better. |

I initially joined Fb in 2010 to primarily play its games, since that was one of its big pros at the time, but eventually got bored of them. I can't believe I sued to play Farmville. FB in its first few years was pretty exciting to get in touch with people I had not spoken with outside maybe MSN Messenger and let alone seen in years for the first time since the early days of HS. It also came in handy when I went to uni, since there were privat groups made for students to exchange notes and important info and planning large social gatherings/events. I don't even have the mobile app anymore. I check it once a day or so on my computer or sometimes don't log in for a few days. And mostly just post something funny for a couple of my friends to like/laugh at and vice-versa. |

please include one number, one capital letter and one symbol...
I've found firefox to get increasingly slow lately. especially with all these increasingly pointless updates. eventually, I ditched formerly old trustworthy and went to chrome. which is a tad faster.

I still use Facebook but not as much as I used to years ago. The novelty factor gradually wore off over time. Pretty boring nowadays imo with only memes being shared most of the time, though it’s still good for keeping in contact with people and sending/receiving messages. I also like having my own personal profile for listing my favourite tv shows, films, bands, etc. At least I’m less likely now to post embarrassing stuff (eg. FarmVille updates) these days.
Used to think Firefox was great (I switched over to it from Internet Explorer a few years ago), but I’ll probably switch over to Chrome soon enough after hearing here who good it is now by comparison because it hasn’t been working right for some time.

Yes, the novelty wore off ages ago. Also, Twitter caught up to FB in populiirty and FB also developed Instagram. So it stopped being the only game in town and other social networks focus more on something specific instead of being a general thing. Yes, it's mostly memes or jokes that I see my friends posting nowadays. And only like 4-5 people from my list still seem to post regularly. Also, the algorithm changed several years ago, meaning you're less likely to see updates from friends you rarely interact with(no likes, comments, etc). That also helped FB lose a lot of activity. Not even when there's a big football match(a very popular sport in portugal) do people comment about it non-stop anymore. The last time I remember FB buzzing a lot over football was in Euro 2016 maybe, which Portugal won. You're better off going on twitter to see people reacting to latest news and current big matches. Apparently, FB is more commonly used among middle aged people than people under 25? |

If you don't mind Google's huge spyware problem than use Chrome.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/techn...=.3e9ce2c6d966 Firefox actually cares about your privacy

I still have my account just because I use it personally rather than for things like following shows/interests etc. Only post on occasion, just log on for a quick browse or if I want to message someone and don't have their number.
Strange to say that I post/talk more in other places where I don't know people compared to the one where I do but it's different, sharing interests rather than general 'what's going on' with people you can talk to outside of the network anyway. I too get the impression Instagram is more popular, don't have an account with that though. Last edited by newfan; 07-17-2019 at 02:21 PM. |

I don't use Facebook to follow people. I use it to follow my various interests: different franchises (TMNT, Star Wars, etc), televisions shows and movies, and sports teams that I like. Instagram is what I use to follow people.

Internet communities are still superior to social media, because Internet communities usually focus on topics, while most social media focus on persons.

I've never used it. facebook is basically for middle age people now.
All the young kids of today are on twitter, instagram, youtube or tumblr. "Facebook is for old people" is the new saying. |

But all the young kids would agree that you're old, so I guess it's time to retire to FB?

Yes, but not for more than a few minutes at a time. I mostly keep it around for commission's sake, & to not lose touch with certain people, some of whom being members of this very forum who no longer come around.

Yes. Instagram is owned by FB, though. So it's not competition for them.
The thing is, IG is shallow as hell. It's a place to post nice photos with nice filters to make them look even nicer. So people mostly share pictures of the 4-5 star hotels they stay at when they travel to a sunny destination. That or share pictures of their food. Not to mention all those fitness models who make a living off IG. IG is basically a SFW pornsite at this point IG also has a big bot and spam problem. A ton of people there follow several people and then unfollow them 2 weeks later. That's their shady way of gaining more followers. Then they unfollow them and hope they don't notice it. You can easily gain 50 new followers on IG in a month and in the next one lose about 75. Quote:

Yes, but sadly forums are dying. Reddit is the closest very popular thing there is today to forums. |

Yeah pretty much, keeps people you know contactable (that aren't close friends and family) Also useful for connecting with people you lost contact with over the years, met up with an old friend today who I found through FB.

I still use it, but I look at it less. Every day it's just the same 100 friends going, "Trump said this thing! wtf! Unfriend me now if you agree," etc..
