Episode 45: Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady
Written by: David Carren & Larry Carroll

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady/Super Rocksteady
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Jennifer Darling: Irma Langinstein, Vinnie's Pizza Waitress
Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop/Mighty Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, Channel 6 Anchorman

Mistakes:
1. The title of the episode is "Super Bebop & Mighty Rocksteady", but Krang names the supermutants Super Rocksteady and Mighty Bebop. This is also how Family Home Entertainment named this episode upon its VHS release.
2. When Leonardo and Donatello are outside Channel 6 patrolling, Leonardo's hand holding the Turtlecom shows four fingers, but the Turtles have only three fingers.
3. After installing the Mesmerizer on the antenna, Shredder's skin turns to light tan, and his vest turns a dark grey.
4. Burne seems much shorter than usual in some scenes, in particular when Shredder contacts Krang while looking down from the roof in the news studio.
5. Krang's eyes are white instead of purple when he responds to Shredder's complaints about the Mesmerizer.
6. The disk Rocksteady holds when Donatello spins him into the Channel 6 lobby is a rectangle instead of a square.
7. When inspecting the disk in the Turtle Van, Donatello's animation appears much more "cartoony" than usual. His eyes are wider and his smile on his face seems rather goofy.
8. When Donatello says "Here it goes" in the Channel 6 lobby, his bandana is tied more like rabbit ears than usual.
9. Burne's body gets bigger and bigger as he falls off of the hanging light.
10. Donatello's teeth were red instead of white when he uses the Super Mutant Remote Device on the supermutants.
11. Michelangelo's belt color matches his plastron and the bottom of the pastron is green while Donatello inspects the Mesmerizer's schematics.
12. When the reprogrammed supermutants are seen dancing and Mighty Bebop grabs Shredder to dance, the animation is recycled after Shredder turns around.
13. Even though the Turtles have green eyelids by this point in the series, right before the Turtles leave the lair, Leonardo has blue eyelids.
14. The mesmerizer's glow is colored blue when Shredder turns it on, but then when the Turtles see the glow from the street, it is magenta, despite still having the same function.
15. When the Turtles first enter the Channel 6 building in front of the supermutants, Donatello says "what are these guys" in Raphael's voice.
16. Donatello's "D" on his belt is not visible when he says "they're big trouble that's what they are" right before the second commercial break.
17. When the supermutants pull the Turtles off of the side of the Channel 6 building, Michelangelo lands on top of Raphael, even though on the shot before it is clear that Michelangelo was further down the building as they cut to the next scene.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Bebop says "Mama!" (in a natural voice) right before he and Rocksteady fall from the antenna tower.
2. Shredder calls Rocksteady and Bebop "moronic mutants" after seeing that they fell from the antenna tower.
3. Bebop says "Mama!" (in a stock voice) right before he and Rocksteady get thrown by the supermutants.
4. Krang calls Rocksteady and Bebop complete idiots and imbeciles.
5. Shredder calls Rocksteady and Bebop "stupid mutants" to distinct them from the supermutants.

Pizza References:
1. Michelangelo sees Vinnie's Pizzeria while patrolling the Channel 6 building, and the Turtles decide to have a pizza there since it is close enough to the building to patrol.
2. Michelangelo wishes he ordered a pickled hair and caramel fudge topping pizza at Vinnie's, but it turned out to be just cheese and anchovies.
3. The pizza billboard (see mistake 14) next to Channel 6 is visible. This confirms that this is Vinnie's Pizzeria next to Channel 6.
4. Shredder, Rocksteady, and Bebop crash into a pizza delivery cart. Michelangelo admits that all of that pizza is totally trashed.
5. The Turtles return to Vinnie's Pizza at the end of the episode. They eat a marshmallow and asparagus pizza as a gift from April and Irma.

Pop Culture References:
1. The various spells cast by the Mesmerizer turn those who are affected into a spell identified by the Mesmerizer's schematics. First, it was slaves/zombies. Next, after the screw fell out of the Mesmerizer, it was young children. This included games such as Tag, Hopscotch, Jump Rope, One Potato Two Potato, and watching cartoons. When the Mesmerizer's radiation color changed from blue to yellow, it was dogs, expressed by barking sounds. When it changed from yellow to pink, it was gorillas, shown by Burne's swinging on the light in the news studio and Shredder climbing the Channel 6 antenna.
2. When holding onto the disk while caught in the Channel 6 revolving door, Rocksteady states that he won't spill the beans by giving the disk to the Turtles. This refers to the Depression-era expression by the poor "hobo" culture.
3. While the Turtles are watching the hypnotized Channel 6 crew members, Michelangelo jokes that they're watching "Night of the Living Newscaster", a parody on the 1968 George A. Romero film "Night of the Living Dead".
4. At the start of the episode, the generic news reporter reports on a shortage of rutabagas. A rutabaga is a vegetable that originates as a cross between cabbage and turnips.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Michelangelo thinks that the Channel 6's crew's "you command, I obey" chant kind of has a catchy beat.
2. Michelangelo says "is this ever suspenseful or what?" right before the Turtles fall from the side of the Channel 6 building.
3. Raphael says "that's right, give him ideas" right after the Supermutants pick up the globe in the Channel 6 lobby.
4. Donatello says that he's a Ninja Turtle, not a cartoon writer when responding to Michelangelo's question about how to get back into the building.
5. Vernon is gliding outside of Channel 6's canopy like a monkey, and Irma admits that Shredder tried to turn her and the rest of the crew into monkeys, despite never actually remembering it consciously.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Krang's Mesmerizer
2. Supermutant reprogrammable Schematics floppy disk
3. Shredder's Mesmerizer-proof Amulet
4. Super Mutant Remote Device

Notables:
1. The Playmates action figure Mighty Bebop was released in 1993. However, it is not based upon the same character in this episode. In fact, Robotic Rocksteady and Robotic Bebop also released in 1993 by Playmates are far more accurate to the supermutants.
2. With the shot of Rocksteady and Bebop crashing into the news studio, it is revealed that Channel 6's main newsroom is directly below the roof.
3. First appearance of the Channel 6 building's lobby.
4. Despite being a widely known super villain by this point, the people on the Channel 6 elevator do not recognize Shredder.
5. On the Family Home Entertainment VHS release, a few seconds between Acts Two and Three are edited out to appear that there is no commercial break present.
6. Bebop calls Krang the "boss" rather than Shredder right before he's instructed to retrieve the disk.

Episode 46: Beware the Lotus
Written by: Doug Molitor

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady, Hotel Owner
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Jennifer Darling: Irma Langinstein, Florist
Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson, Dr. Gilman
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil, Lotus Blossom
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Monsieur Oaf
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, Channel 6 Anchorman

Mistakes:
1. In the close up of the flower seller on the hotel's TV set, a sewer wall and tunnel is visible behind her.
2. When Splinter wakes up and attacks the Foot Soldiers, Rocksteady speaks in Bebop's voice.
3. When Krang meets Lotus in the abandoned apartment, four of the five Foot Soldiers do not have the Foot Clan logo on their heads.
4. Vernon reports that he is in Little Tokyo, but in the real New York City, there is no specific neighborhood with that name.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Right before April's report on romance begins, Michelangelo says "Cowabunga". (in stock voice)
2. Shredder calls the hotel owner an idiot during Leonardo's battle with Lotus.
3. Krang calls Splinter a mutant maggot as the Foot Soldiers prepare to destroy him.
4. Krang calls Shredder a has-been when he wants to take away destroying Splinter from Lotus' hands after Shredder called Lotus a traitor.
5. As Shredder and Krang escape the building, Krang promises that he wouldn't insult Shredder again, but then immediately calls Shredder a tin-faced moron.
6. Shredder calls Rocksteady and Bebop cretins right before all slide down the pole from the same building.

Pizza References:
1. When the Turtles are watching Wolfman on the TV, they are seen eating pizza.
2. A disguised Lotus sends the Turtles a pizza (and a Lotus) at the end of the episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. Raphael tells Leonardo that Romeo that Juliet's goons captured Splinter, in reference to the Shakespeare tragedy.
2. Somewhat related to mistake number 4, Little Tokyo, U.S.A. was a 1942 film.
3. Raphael says "Can a Turtle Breakdance?", based on the '80s dance as they plan on rescuing Splinter.
4. Bebop says that Splinter was playing Possum, a children's outdoor game.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. When Krang sees Lotus' ability on Shredder, he says that he'd applaud if he had hands.
2. Shredder says that no matter who loses that it will be someone he hates.
3. After Shredder says that he still has a few tricks left up his sleeve, Rocksteady grabs Shredder's arm and literally looks up his sleeve.
4. Lotus says that she is a professional after talking to Leo that she is being paid to kidnap Splinter.
5. After Burne says that April's report on romance will be a smash, the next scene shows a Foot Soldier literally smashing glass from the building the Turtles/Foot are in.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Scent analyzer
2. The Foot Soldiers' Stun Gun

Kidnapping:
Splinter is kidnapped by Lotus and some Foot Soldiers at her secret hideout.

Notables:
1. First appearance of Lotus Blossom. This is also the first female ninja whose ever appeared in the TMNT universe. This would later inspire the creation of Karai during the Mirage Comics' City at War storyline in 1992.
2. Krang is in his bubble walker in this episode.
3. It is revealed that the Foot Soldiers' hands in this series contain both Caucasian and Black human colored hands, as shown on the shot where two Foot Soldiers grab Leonardo's arms.

Episode 47: Blast From the Past
Written by: David Wise

Special Note: Please refer to "Turtle Tracks", "Enter the Shredder", and "Shreddered & Splintered" for specific references/errors found from the archive footage.

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo, Krang (new footage)
Pat Fraley: Krang (archived footage)
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Shibano Sama
Peter Renaday: Splinter

Mistakes:
No new errors in this episode.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Shredder refers to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as accursed during the first scene.
2. After Bebop and Rocksteady's spell is freed by Shibano, Bebop says "Mama" in the stock voice.

Pizza References:
1. Michelangelo cooks two pizzas by first spinning his arms, and then Leonardo credits his superior pizza making abilities.
2. Shibano Sama tells the Turtles and Splinter to save the last slice of pizza for him at the end of the episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. Rocksteady says "What's up, Boss?" to Shredder right before they get into the transport module, a homage to the popular Bugs Bunny expression.
2. The side of the Majestic Theatre, found in Broadway's Theater District is shown during the Turtles/Splinter journey to the museum.
3. Raphael compares the Asian American museum to a scene out of a Kung Fu movie, movies inspired by Chinese martial arts.
4. Shibano Sama's character design looks fairly similar to Skeletor from He-Man fame.
5. The "Kur-Li Maneuver" was inspired by a defense made famous by Curly Howard, one of the Three Stooges.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Krang says that next time he would conquer a planet, he'd use an accountant.
2. In the museum, Raphael says that "due to technical problems with Master Splinter, we're all in deep trouble."

Wacky Inventions:
1. Shredder's amnesia-generating gas trap
2. Donatello's mind-restoring potion

Notables:
1. The only clip show of the series featuring archived footage of the episodes "Turtle Tracks", "Enter the Shredder" , and "Shreddered and Splintered" from Season 1.
2. Raphael uses a katana blade during the ninja exercise.
3. With regards to the specific cut scenes, the following archived footage is used: the first archived footage from the episode Turtle Tracks begins with the scenes from the Hamato Yoshi origin story (archived audio about Splinter dishonoring the clan), and includes all scenes up to the Turtles' introductions. The order of the Turtles' introductions was switched to Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael. We then cut back to April's first report, followed by the Turtles' first battle with the street punks up to April fainting (with archived audio). After a couple more present day scenes, we then go to the cut of the Technodrome under the city from "Enter: The Shredder", and proceed right to the guest room where he chooses Bebop and Rocksteady to mutate. We then cut to the scene where Bebop and Rocksteady get mutated (with archived audio). After a brief cut back to the present time, we cut to Splinter getting captured by the Roadkill Rodney (with archived audio), followed by the Turtles discovering Splinter's walking stick (archived audio), then cut right to the Turtles entering the room where Splinter is held hostage in the Technodrome through the moment they rescue Splinter (with archived audio). We then move on the scene where April drives toward the zoo, through the scene where Bebop and Rocksteady first attack with their firearms (mostly archived audio except for a line Donatello explains about Bebop and Rocksteady's attack), until the second commercial break. A few seconds after the second commercial break, we cut right to the Bebop and Rocksteady battle in "Shreddered & Splintered" (with archived audio). About midway through the battle, we cut back to the present, then we cut to the scene where Krang first receives his android body (with archived audio). After the Shredder says "It's Alive!" the second time, we cut to the scene where Krang's android body grows larger over the turtles (archived audio with a couple of Michelangelo present day voice overs towards the beginning of the scene), with the Krang battle abridged to about a third of its original length. Finally, we have the "Turtle Soup" scene that ends with Shredder and Krang escaping underground (with archived audio), where the archived footage ends.
4. This marks the last official appearance of Roadkill Rodney, even though it was only archived footage.
5. The second commercial break comes at a point where there was no commercial break in the original episode (Enter the Shredder), making any climax purpose useless.
6. Although this episode uses the Murakami Wolf Dublin vanity plate at the end, the archived footage came from Murakami Wolf Swenson episodes.

Mistakes:
1. The back part of the inside of Leonardo's Turtlecom is the same color as the rest of the device when he is contacted by the Punk Frogs.
2. When Rocksteady and Bebop fire their lasers their fingers aren't making contact with the triggers.
3. When the Turtles, Frogs, and April look at Baby Shredder, there were gaps visible on the strapping of Donatello's bo.
4. When the smoke from Rasputin's arrow cleared, it revealed a shot of Shredder's discarded clothes next to Leatherhead's foot, but Shredder's clothing was still intact as he was actually in the Fountain of Youth.
5. When Michelangelo jumps out of the Fountain of Youth, Leonardo speaks in Raphael's voice.
6. In the cut scene showing April and Irma at the beach, there are hills and mountains visible in the distance, but in the real Florida, there are no significant hills at the coast.

3. Shredder calls the Turtles/Punk Frogs as "webfooted wimps" when stuck in the quicksand.
4. When Michelangelo sees the foutnain of youth, he says "Cowabunga". After the water changes his behavior, he says "Cowabunga" again as he leaps onto a tree branch.
5. After Shredder mutates into a baby, he calls Bebop and Rocksteady morons and Bebop an overgrown klutz.

3. Genghis says "Who ya gonna call? Gator busters?" when they carry Leatherhead, a takeoff on the popular Ghostbusters phrase.
4. Michelangelo compares a mosquito to the size of a 747, named after the Boeing Jumbo Jet.
5. Michelangelo says that he's totally jazzed right before the final battle with Leatherhead/Shredder begins, as Jazz music originated in nearby New Orleans.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Attila tells Genghis that "it's just a figure of speech".
2. Raphael says to April while captured in the net in the tree "life sure takes funny twists, doesn't it?"
3. As Shredder, Leatherhead, Bebop and Rocksteady gets away and the good guys are still stuck in the quicksand, Rasputin says that Shredder does have a pleasant laugh.

Wacky Inventions:
None in this episode.

The Turtles and April are kidnapped when Leatherhead sets up a secret trap that leaves them trapped in a net while being hanged from a tree.

Notables:
1. First appearance of Leatherhead.

2. In the same scene, the blown turtles have a third toe and a fourth finger.
3. Also in that scene, the Turtles gain a few plastral plates.
4. Shredder says that Michelangelo is held at Sixth street and Hill street. In the real New York, there is no such intersection.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Rocksteady says "he must have seen this episode before" when he turns toward the audience.

Barry Gordon: Donatello
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Posh Restaurant Waiter, Rabbit Hutch Manager

Mistakes:
1. When a Foot Soldier knocked Usagi to the ground, he was carrying both swords, but when we cut to the next scene, only one sword was drawn.
2. When Donatello explains to Splinter about Usagi's proper dimension, Usagi's eyes change colors from yellow and blue to white and black and back again in the same shot.
3. When the Turtles retreat to the Turtle Van after they encounter the dragon, the rectangular border around the word "TURTLES" is clear-colored instead of dark green.
4. When Raphael says "Michelangelo, that is a brilliant idea", he is shown with Donatello's colors.

2. The Vinnie's Pizzeria billboard next to the Channel 6 building is visible.

Pop Culture References:
1. Right before Donatello presents the dimensional portal, Raphael says that they should dial long distance and then the area code for Dimension X. This reflects the era this episode was made before cellphones were common and most people only dialed the area code for long distance phone calls.
2. Usagi stops at a carnival game stand featuring teddy bears and dolls as prizes, including one that looks like a Cabbage Patch Kid and Raggedy Ann.
3. As Michelangelo and Raphael run from the dragon's fire, Michelangelo says that it will be a "Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight", in reference to the Guy Lombardo song.

6. At the Rabbit Hutch restaurant, one of the employees says "Hold the Mayo", a popular quote in the 1980 film Airplane.
7. Usagi Yojimbo's name was derived from Akira Kurosawa's 1960 film Yojimbo, and is influenced to icons of Japanese cinema such as Lone Wolf and Cub, Zatoichi, and Godzilla.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Raphael states that Usagi is not just from Japan but also an alternate universe and that he speaks English.
2. After Splinter tells Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael to face the dragon, Raphael says "How come we get all the fun jobs?"
3. Michelangelo says "I wish I could get to say lines like that" after Leonardo says "take Turtle steel" at the dragon.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Portable Portal Generator
2. Shredder's Dimensional Teleporter
3. The Foot Soldier's Power Pack

Notables:
1. First appearance of Usagi Yojimbo. This is also the only official crossover character used in the series, as Usagi Yojimbo was created by Stan Sakai in 1984 in the anthology "Albedo Anthropomorphics".
2. Bebop and Rocksteady are not in this episode, the first since Enter The Rat King.
3. First appearance of Donatello's Portable Portal Generator.

Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, Don Turtelli

Mistakes:
1. When Leonardo goes onto the balcony to rescue April and Vernon when they are still blindfolded, he is seen with Donatello's bo.
2. Inside the kimono crate, Leonardo says "and people wonder why I love this job" in Raphael's voice and also has Donatello's bo.
3. The Turtles have white belts instead of brown when they and Aunt Aggie regroup in Turtelli's penthouse suite.
4. Inside the warehouse, Leonardo says "here's April's microphone and Vernon's camcorder" in his normal voice, but then he says "but no April and Vernon" in Donatello's voice.
5. When Vernon falls from Turtelli's apartment building with April, his ankles are tied, but when they land, his ankles are untied.
6. When Michelangelo is first seen carrying pizzas out of the pizzeria, he is carrying five pizza boxes. In the next shot, he is seen carrying seven boxes.
7. When the Turtles are shown stuck in the oil slick as the limousine gets away, two of the Turtles are not shown with their bandanas.
8. Leonardo tells Michelangelo to activate the Pizza Thrower aboard the ship, but it is actually the Retrocatapault.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Leonardo says to Don Turtelli "you are about to get Turtle Waxed!".
2. Don Turtelli calls April and Agatha "nosy females" aboard the ship.
3. Leonardo and Michelangelo say "Turtle Power" as they launch from the Retrocatapult. Turtelli's assistant responds by saying "who said Turtle Power?"

Pizza References:

5. Michelangelo says that the leaf mixed with olive oil that Agatha taste tests is not even on a pizza.

7. See Mistake No. 8
8. Agatha bakes a pizza with cheese, spinach root, and soybean subsitute to the Turtles at the end of the episode. Donatello and Michelangelo criticize her cooking ability at making pizza.

Pop Culture References:
1. Donatello poses as a Cowboy when he persuades Don Turtelli to come down from his penthouse to a kimono shop.
2. As Agatha explains, shipping high means to sail at high tide.
3. Agatha says "Elementary My Dear, April" in the Channel 6 building and later "Elementary, My Dear Donatello" on the ship, as a reference to "Elementary, My Dear Watson" by Sherlock Holmes. This reference would later be used for the title of a future episode in this series (Elementary, My Dear Turtle during the European Vacation sideseason, which happens to feature Sherlock Holmes as a character).
4. While Michelangelo climbs onto the ship, he says "Aye Aye Skipper, gangster away" as a parody of the traditional expression "Aye Aye Captain, Bombs Away."
5. As Michelangelo chases Turtelli in his speed boat, after saying Cowabunga, he says "ride 'em Turtle" as a reference on the 1943 western movie Ride 'Em Cowboy.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:

6. Raphael says "what do you think this is, a cartoon?" right before April and Vernon land on the awning.
7. Raphael says "have we got the hang of these daring rescues or what?" as he and Donatello climb from the Sewer Tubes onto Turtelli's yacht.

Wacky Invention:
The Turtlecycle

Kidnappings:
April and Vernon are kidnapped by Don Turtelli after a bogus tip was provided by him.

Notables:
1. The Turtlecycle is introduced, but is never specifically mentioned by that term.
2. Shredder does not appear in this episode, the first since Enter the Rat King and only the second occurance in the series up to this point.
3. Don Turtelli calls the Turtles amphibians aboard the ship, but Donatello correctly explains to him that they're reptiles.
4. Michelangelo uses his grappling hook in this episode, despite still being Season 3. This may have been one of the last episodes produced in this Season given this and the use of the Sewer Tubes (not yet formally introduced based on the proper episode order).

3. When the alien movie comes on Donatello's portal, Michelangelo believes he is watching "The Planet of the Rubber Bands", a spoof on the 1968 movie "Planet of the Apes". This would also inspire the title of two future episodes in this series, "Planet of the Turtles" and "Planet of the Turtleoids".

5. As April peeks above the sewer cover into the financial district, she says "Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the sewers", in reference to the tagline from the 1975 movie Jaws.
6. As the Brainalyzer affects the Turtles, Michelangelo describes it as a heavy metal concert going on in his head.
7. When Metalhead speaks as Raphael, he wonders if the decorator of the Turtles' Lair is the Phantom of the Opera, the title character of the 1987 musical.
8. Raphael says "there goes the neighborhood", popularized in the 1970 movie Watermelon Man as Metalhead senses Shredder approaching the lair.
9. Michelangelo says "Catch us if you Can" while on his Cheapskate in pursuit of Shredder, a possible reference to the 1965 Dave Clark Five song.

3. Bebop and Rocksteady (with Shredder) get covered in cement by a truck for the first time since Shreddered and Splintered.

Mistakes:
1. The cardboard dummy of Krang is without his Android body, which would not be practical when fighting due to the clear advantage of the Turtles' power.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:

7. Michelangelo then says "Hit Me With You Best Shot" from the Pat Benatar rock hit.
8. Raphael says "hey laser breath! Your mother wears steel sneakers" as a spoof on the phrase "Your mother wears army (combat) boots", a popular expression in the mid-20th century which referred to women of "ill-repute" while in the mirror maze to the Turtlenator.

1. When the Turtles discover that the mutagen cookie is unstable, Leonardo is speaking with Donatello's voice, but in the same shot, his voice changes back to normal.
2. Leonardo and Raphael's colors switch when Donatello works on an antidote to restore Michelangelo to normal.
3. Look carefully for this one. When Leonardo drives the Turtle Van as he says "there are 12 million people in this city", the word "TURTLES" is missing from the shell on the front bumper.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Shredder calls Bebop and Rocksteady oafs when they are still in their disguises minus their faces.
2. Michelangelo says that it could be a major bummer if he didn't try right before he mutates into a human for the first time.
3. After Michelangelo tosses Jersey Red, he says "Turtle Power does it again!"
4. The last word on Michelangelo's note to the other Turtles is determined to be Cowabunga when Donatello reads it.
5. Raphael says "Banazai!" when he, Leonardo, and Donatello come to the rescue.
6. Shortly after, Raphael, Leonardo, and Donatello say "Turtles Fight with Honor."
7. April says "Put me down you muscle bound mutant" in the next shot as Rocksteady gags her away up the cargo net.
8. Michelangelo says that he needs some "Total Turtle Power" as he tries to pull April up to him atop the ship.

Pizza References:
1. Donatello says "no time for pizza guys" at the start of the episode.
2. Michelangelo admits that the cookies in the bag given by the disguised Bebop and Rocksteady were not pizza, but at least round.
3. Vinnie's Pizzeria's billboard next to the Channel 6 building is visible twice, in particularly in the shot near the end of the episode.
4. Michelangelo says that Jersey Red is going to pound April into pizza dough, right before he transforms back into a Turtle for the first time.
5. Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael are eating pizza in the kitchen when Raphael asks Leonardo and Donatello where Michelangelo is.
6. In the final scene, Michelangelo says that he can hardly wait for the tubular pizza. Donatello brings out a chocolate chip pizza, and Michelangelo decides not to eat it due to his recent experience as a human.

Pop Culture References:
1. Leonardo always wondered what it would be like riding in a Western rodeo.
2. Vernon wants a show on Matchbook collecting, which involves collecting matchbooks mostly from restaurants and hotels.
3. As Michelangelo says "Bright lights, big city, here comes Michael J. Angelo", he may be referring to the 1961 song by Jerry Reed and being a take on the actor Michael J. Fox.
4. The title of this episode may refer to several different works of fiction, from the 1939 Googie Withers film, to the 1941 Mantan Moreland and Frankie Darro film, to the 1943 Busby Berkeley film, or to the Fred Astaire song. There was even an episode from the animated series "Alvin and the Chipmunks" made in 1984 and an episode from the series "Pee-wee's Playhouse". However, it is most likely in reference to the 1917 song "Hail, Hail, the Gang's All Here" written by D.A. Esrom.
5. As Michelangelo swings on a rope to rescue April from Rocksteady, she says that "you might be Tarzan, but I'm not Jane" from Tarzan lore.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Krang calls Shredder a comedian after he said that he knew a splendid recipe for boiled brains.
2. Burne says to April that violence, crime, and brutality are all the elements of great family viewing.
3. Raphael says "don't you fellas know I never work without a net?" after he uses an axe at the gang members.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Donatello's antidote spray can to the Anti-Mutagen Formula.
2. Donatello's mutagen-trackeing ray

Kidnapping:
April is gagged by Rocksteady aboard the ship.

Notables:
1. None of the gang members are part of same punks from season 1. This is because Shredder mutated them in "Hot Rodding Teenagers" and cured them in "Shreddered and Splintered."
2. The final usage of the very first background music cue, first heard at the very beginning of Turtle Tracks, is used in this episode when April decides to dress up as a gang member.

Episode 59: The Grybyx
Written by: Michael Reaves

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Pat Fraley: Krang, Zak
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Tress MacNeille: Kala
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, The Grybyx
Thom Pinto: Dask
Peter Renaday: Splinter, News Anchorman

Mistakes:
1. Bebop's laser pistol gets gunked up, and then when he accidentally throws it, it becomes a riffle.
2. When the transport module get shot, Bebop says "boss, I think we oughta run" in Rocksteady's voice.
3. As the monster Grybyx chases the Turtles, April, and Neutrinos, Raphael runs sideways and the background moves to the other side.
4. After the Neutrinos are back in Dimension X, Leonardo's, Donatello's, and Michelangelo's belt initials are in their Season 2 color pattern.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Michelangelo says "Holy guacamole" when he sees the Grybyx come through the portal.
2. Shredder calls Bebop and Rocksteady fools when he first encounters the Grybyx.
3. Leonardo says "Turtles Fight With Honor" while still on the Turtlecycle.
4. Michelangelo says "Let's Kick some Shell" and "Cowabunga" during the same fight.
5. Shredder calls Leonardo a meddling reptile right before the Grybyx's rifle fires at Shredder. As he flees, he then blames it on the "blasted Grybyx."
6. The Turtles say "Go Green Machine!" right before Shredder stuns them with his spray.
7. Shredder calls Rocksteady a sentimental sob in the power plant.
8. Michelangelo says "Holy guacamole" after he sees the supersized Grybyx come out of the power plant.
9. Shredder refers to the "Blasted Grybyx" after he comes out of the store with his completed component. He then calls Bebop and Rocksteady bugbrains after they smash that component.
10. Bebop says "Mama!" right before he gets swung in circles on the swing set by the Grybyx's laser.

Pizza References:
1. Raphael says that the loser pays for the pizzas based upon who loses Ninja practice.
2. April presents one of Michelangelo's pizzas to the Grybyx, but upon eating it, it turns evil into a big monster. April doubts by saying "what harm could a little pizza do."

Pop Culture References:
1. Michelangelo and Donatello are playing Pong on the TV at the start of the episode.
2. Michelangelo compared the trash can lid that the Grybyx is floating to a flying saucer of UFO lore.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. After Leonardo says that its too quiet, Raphael says "and how do I know he was going to say that?"
2. Krang personally thinks that Grybyxes are bothersome little things.
3. Shredder says "what a heart-wrenching touching scene" right before he tells his minions to stun the Turtles/Neutrinos/April.
4. Raphael says "now you know why he's our leader" after Leonardo says "now they're outgoing."
5. Raphael looks into the "camera" and says "don't you just hate it when people can't control their pets?"
6. Michelangelo admits that he means in the nicest possible way that the Grybyx is like a one man demolition squad.

Wacky Inventions:
1. The Grybyx's psychokinetic abilities, the power of moving things just by thinking about them.
2. Shredder's Electrokinetic Detector
3. Dask's Grybyx Tracking Device
4. Shredder's shield used to deflect the Grybyx's laser beam.
5. The psychokinetic energy draining device in the power plant.

Notables:
1. The final appearance of the "zoo cue", commonly associated with Bebop and Rocksteady in Season 1.
2. This episode has some parallels with the plot of The Case of the Killer Pizzas. Like the Pizza Monsters in that episode, Grybyxes eating pizza (or any earth food) causes them to grow into giant monsters, but the difference is that unlike the Pizza Monsters who became evil upon microwave cooking, it doesn't become evil until after the tasting. Incidentally, the same music cue is used as April sees the Grybyx grow evil and turn into a monster. Grybyxes turn normal and smaller upon getting wet, in a parallel situation to the Pizza Monsters getting electrocuted. But a big difference is that water makes Pizza Monsters grow to full size, which is the opposite of Grybyxes. Also, the Grybyx flees the good guys like the small pizza monsters fleed en route to the sewers.
3. April's nails are pink in this episode, instead of the normal tan.
4. Final appearance of the Turtlecycle.
5. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf Dublin.

2. Leonardo had Raphael's sais on his belt when Donatello asks Ogg what he had against the Turtles.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Shredder calls Rocksteady a birdbrain when Rocksteady watches the museum exhibit on TV.

3. Rocksteady then calls Mr. Ogg a pipsqueak before he turns him and Bebop into mini-mutants.

5. See the Mistake.

Pizza Reference:
Michelangelo cooks a pizza at the end of the episode with lots of hardware store-type toppings, such as a wrench, screwdriver, and bolts.

2. Dimension Z is obviously a Dimension X parody, which itself was a 1950s science fiction radio drama.
3. Michelangelo describes the tuxedos that Raphael asks why the Turtles are wearing as "squares", a popular 1950s term describing a person with conservative taste.
4. Mr. Ogg says that a great movie would be "The Turtle Chainsaw Massacre", a parody on the 1974 horror film "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
5. The Statue of Liberty is shown in this episode.
6. Mr. Ogg returns to Dimension Z through Donatello's portal by saying "And away we go!", which was the phrase that was used to open an episode of the 1950s-60s Jackie Gleason Show.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. April says "Me and my big mouth" after she says "are you nuts?"
2. Shredder says "why should they get all the bad puns" after he fires some oil at Michelangelo and Raphael.
3. Raphael says that "We're Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and that we should escape a corny setup like this", when referred to being tied up with a time bomb about to explode.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Dimension Z's Oil Transmuter Forumla
2. The missle rope that Shredder uses to catapult onto the oil tanker
3. The Numatic Module connecting the oil tanker to the Technodrome
4. Shredder's time bomb

Notables:
1. We see Shredder's personal quarters consisting of lots of antique Asian vases and porcelain.
2. Michelangelo uses his Grappling Hook in this episode, though he still holds his nunchucks in another shot.
3. Final appearance of a background music cue when Donatello first moves his Portable Portal Generator.
4. This episode ends with a background music cue often used in tension situations, the first instance in this series.

1. During the studio fight, Leonardo has his swords drawn, but after the commercial break, he draws them again.
2. When the Turtles first enter the costume shop, the store clerk doesn't have a mustache, but he's supposed to.
3. During the last fight between human Rocksteady and Bebop, Donatello's bo breaks into two pieces, but later when in Shredder's office, he has in back on his shell.
4. The Technodrome is much smaller in this episode than in any other episode.
5. During the day, the sky is red and polluted, but at night, the sky looks normal.
6. Rocksteady's camouflage pattern is on his shirt, but in season 1, his camouflage patter is on his pants.
7. Michelangelo is shown at the end of the episode with no nunchucks on his belt even though his grappling hook broke instead.
8. When General Traag and the Rock Soldiers seek the Turtles outside the Technodrome, they are shown in the doorway with pink spray paint on them before Zach applied it to them.

2. The store front of Dave's Disguises features a large Mr. Potato Head.
3. The One Dollar bill shown in Dave's Disguises features Shredder as a portrait, and the motto is changed to "In Shredder We Trust."
4. The room where the Turtles battle Bebop and Rocksteady is said by Michelangelo to be right out of the Arabian Nights, with April and Irma dressed up as Arabian princesses throughout this episode.
5. Vernon presents an episode of "I Love Shredder," a parody of "I Love Lucy."
6. Leonardo says "Boo!" to Vernon and Burne scaring Vernon into a baby grand piano, which is a possible reference to the 1932 comedy movie.
7. Michelangelo says that he'd seen cars at a demolition derby in better condition than the Technodrome.
8. Human Bebop describes the Turtles as not the four Tooth Fairies, but (Snow White &) the Seven Dwarfs.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Michelangelo says that the world is in terrible shape when he sees that the globe in the Channel 6 lobby is damaged.
2. Raphael says that he'll never know how "I Love Shredder" ended after Michelangelo causes the rock soldiers to take notice and avenge against the Turtles.

Wacky Invention:
The Technodrome's external megaphone

Notables:
1. Irma appears for the first time since the Turtle Terminator, ending the longest time between appearances in the series up to this point (5 episodes)
2. One of the few times in the series where Shredder is dressed outside his combat armor. He only wears the face mask and helmet from his battle armor, and is clad in a business suit.
3. The second episode where Shredder is shown as a baby in one scene.
4. This is the only episode in which the majority of the story is a dream, in which the transition takes place when a snoring Donatello is awakened by a splash of water. We transition out of the dream when April says "get up Donatello" when clinging onto the falling Channel 6 building, and return to normal when Splinter says "get up Donatello."
5. April's stock-voiced scream is heard as she and Irma run from the Turtles in the Arabian-themed room.
6. Bebop and Rocksteady are shown in their human forms in this episode.
7. Krang is only seen on his original stool from Season 1 in this episode.
8. Michelangelo uses his Grappling Hook individually in this episode despite still being Season 3.

3. Just as the Turtles follow Rocksteady and Bebop who are trying to escape the power plant, Leonardo carries Donatello's bo staff. Also, the back of the module is spinning, which isn't normal for a transport model of the module. Its best to pay attention to Leonardo for this shot.
4. The weapons on the Turtles' shells are much smaller when they wear the Killer Drone armor.
5. When Shredder and Krang contract Rocksteady and Bebop, Bebop isn't holding the Comlink while he's being viewed on the Technodrome's monitor screen.
6. Just as the Technodrome loses power for the first time, the image of Bebop from an earlier contact is still on the view screen.
7. When Shredder's Transport Module crashes though the portal chamber's door at the end of the episode, the module's drill tip was pink instead of grey, and the damage to the door disappears as it comes to a stop.

13. Rocksteady is animated differently in Shredder's Comlink compared to the rest of the episode.

15. The rear top tread of Shredder's module is missing as it surfaces at the Fort.
16. When Rocksteady and Bebop escape from the power plant, the control panel and seats are missing inside their Transport Module.
17. After Rocksteady and Bebop crashes through the wall at the power plant, the outside shot showed a broken window instead of a broken wall.

26. The Turtles' belt initials are missing when Shredder and Krang watches them in their robotic drone outfits walking down a corridor on the Technodrome's portal screen.
27. The TV in whch the Turtles are watching at the end of the episode seems to be a lighter shade of brown than normal.
28. In the first shot of the final scene with April on the TV screen and Michelangelo holding a comic book, what appears to be a sideways "L" and a person is visible on the front cover, but in the next shot when we zoom in on Michelangelo and the comic book, the objects on the front cover are missing.

3. Rocksteady calls Leonardo a wimp as he and Bebop are about to escape.

4. Numerous baseball references are used as the crystal is passed from person to person until Shredder takes hold, including "the pitch", "right over the plate", "strike one, strike two, and strike three you're out."

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:

3. In the same scene, after Shredder says "trust me", Krang says "trust me? I've heard that before."

Episode 64: The Big Break-In
Written by: David Wise

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil, Fort McIntosh Receptionist
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Army Colonel
Peter Renaday: Splinter, General Traag

Mistakes:
1. During the tea ceremony at the beginning, none of the Turtles have their weapons, but at some point Raphael gains his sais in his ninja belt.
2. Just as the Technodrome is about to roll over the Turtles, Raphael says "I can't move", but his mouth doesn't move to the line.
3. Due to a layering error, Donatello is shown hitting the hole in the Technodrome's Relay Room instead of falling into it when Krang uses his special weapon ball arm attachments to toss him and Michelangelo to the ground.
4. The Channel 6 logo on the back of the newsvan throughout this episode is colored blue instead of red with a white outline.
5. When April's news van rolls over right before the Technodrome reaches the surface, the "6" is backwards. Its best turn your head upside down to notice this error.
6. When the Technodrome arises before the second commercial break, the Foot Clan symbol on the entrance is red, but after the commercial break when it arises, it is grey.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Shredder calls Earth a "wretched planet" as he and Shredder are starting the Technodrome's rise to the surface.
2. Leonardo says "Turtle Power" after kicking the sewer pipe on their search for the Technodrome.
3. Shortly afterwards as Michelangelo slides down the sewer pipe, he says "Cowabunga."
4. Raphael and Leonardo say "Turtle Power" when they drive away in the Turtle Seeking Cycles. In the next short, Michelangelo says the stock-voiced Cowabunga when he and Donatello drive away in the Techno Rover.
5. Raphael says "I owe you one buddy" after Leonardo saves him from being sawed off.
6. The Turtles say "Turtle Power" after they escape from the Technodrome on their way to save April.

Pizza References:
1. Michelangelo says that being in the Earth's crust makes him think of pizzas.
2. As the Technodrome approaches the Turtles in the crust, Raphael says that it will flatten them like Turtle pizzas.
3. At the end, Michelangelo mentions a place in town that makes tiny little green pizzas with flags and marshmallows for golf balls.

Pop Culture References:
1. The Turtles and Splinter are practicing a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony at the start of the episode.
2. Donatello says "Geronimo!" after Leonardo says "Turtles Fight With Honor", which is used when people jump from a great height, in particular a skydiving term that originated in 1940.
3. Leonardo says that its raining Foot Soldiers, a parody on the popular "raining animals" poems from around the 17th century.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Michelangelo says "Dudes, looks like showtime" indicating that their most exciting adventure yet is about to take place.
2. Raphael says "still think you like to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" when he is aware that the Technodrome is near.
3. April says "don't you just hate it when that happens" when she struggles to get the door open amid the approaching Technodrome.

Wacky Inventions:
1. The Minimizer
2. The Turtle Seeking Cycles
3. The Technodrome's drilling mechanism
4. Donatello's sound wave detecting tracker
5. Donatello's surveillance gear

Notables:
1. Final appearance of the Technodrome under the earth. It is not specifically shown at the same spot in the Earth's core where it lands, but is still presumed to be in that location by Donatello at the start of the episode. It is also the first appearance of the Technodrome on the Earth's surface since "Return of the Technodrome."
2. Last appearance of the Technodrome "Jaws" background music cue.
3. Final appearance of the Techno Rovers.
4. First time since Shreddered & Splintered that Krang uses his android body's special weapon arms.

Episode 65: The Big Blow Out
Written by: David Wise

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder, Traffic Cop
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo, Man at Power Plant
Pat Fraley: Krang
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Army Colonel, Motorist
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, General Traag

Mistakes:
1. The S.C.U.D. missle was supposed to explode upon impact. Plus a S.C.U.D. missle couldn't even reach the clouds and it carried the whole Technodrome through a portal in outer space.
2. After the Technodrome is seen on Vernon's news report, Donatello is colored as Michelangelo.
3. When we cut inside the Channel 6 Van at the start of the episode on Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael, the interior and most of the outside of the van is colored yellow like the Turtle Van.
4. The Turtle Van is missing the word "TURTLES" on the bumper and is shown opaque with regards to the right window visible as the Turtles head to the power turbines.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Shredder's first line in this episode is "Wretched reptiles."
2. Shredder calls Rocksteady a honking hornhead after he steps on Shredder's foot.
3. Michelangelo says that its time to make Turtle Tracks right before the Technodrome unleashes its multiple saw blades.
4. As the Turtles and Splinter climb up the Technodrome, Shredder refers to them as "wretched shellbacks."
5. Right as the Technodrome's missle turns to miss Mount Rushmore, Michelangelo says "Cowabunga!"
6. Michelangelo says "Holy Guacamole!" when he sees the Technodrome causing the Dimension X portal to open.
7. Shredder calls Splinter a wretched rodent during the battle with him.
8. Michelangelo calls Shredder "Tin Grin" when he turns the crank to knock Shredder down the room where he was battling with Splinter.
9. After Shredder lands into the pool of water after his big freefall, he comes out and blames the "accursed turtles."
10. As Shredder attempts to destroy the Turtles at the battle's climax, he says "Farewell accursed enemy."
11. During the victory celebration, Raphael feels like they've probably seen the last of Shredhead.

Pizza Reference:
Although the word pizza is never said, we see a chef tossing dough and Michelangelo wants his reward for victory smothered with pepperoni and hot fudge, and the Turtles enter what appears to be a pizzeria.

Pop Culture References:
1. Mount Rushmore is shown in this episode.
2. At the Mount Rushmore Power Plant, Michelangelo is saying that the Technodrome is turning into a Daddy-Long-Legs 'drome, which was a novel written in 1912 by Jean Webster and was the basis of several films.
3. Inside the power plant, Donatello says that little David is about to bring down Goliath. in reference to the Old Testament story.
4. Raphael must have known how King Kong had felt based upon how the Technodrome's functions are programmed.
5. Raphael hopes that the Army takes Amphibian Express, a spoof on American Express.
6. After Bebop and Rocksteady get tied up by Michelangelo's grappling hook, Bebop says "Thanks for the memory" of Bob Hope fame.
7. The one battle scene with the Shredder and Splinter fights resembles the room from the Death Star in Star Wars where Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in battle.
8. Michelangelo gives Shredder a "royal flush" to knock him down into freefall, which is usually the highest hand in poker.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Krang tells Shredder that he's mixing his metaphors with regards to moving the Technodrome.
2. Donatello says "what a waste of a heroic line" after the current shuts off in the power plant.
3. After the Turtles narrowly miss Mount Rushmore while riding on the missle, Raphael says "do those guys remind you of someone?"
4. After Donatello and Raphael encounter the Army General, Raphael says "don't you watch TV?" to the General.
5. Raphael says "I love that military lingo" after he says "Roger Wilco."

Wacky Inventions:
1. Mount Rushmore Power Antenna
2. The Technodrome's robotic arms
3. The Technodrome's satellite dish

Kidnapping:
Raphael is grabbed by a giant claw and is sealed off on a conveyor belt, set to be crushed by spikes in the Technodrome.

Notables:
1. Final episode of Season 3 and the final one with the underground cave closing credit sequence.
2. The Technodrome returns to Dimension X for the first time since Return of the Technodrome.
3. Final usage of a music cue used primarily for Channel 6, used when the cars are stuck in traffic in this episode.
4. The Rex movie theater is still playing the same movie that it played on Season 3's first episode, "Beneath These Streets": Kung Fu Commandos vs. Chainsaw Cheerleaders.
5. The World Trade Center appears in this episode.
6. The only time in this series that the Technodrome destroys buildings whole.
7. Michelangelo uses his grappling hook in this episode, despite still being Season 3.
8. Final mention of Dimension Z.

Well guys, we've made it through the first 65, and it sure is a great resource to print while watching through the series. After I post Plan 6 From Outer Space, feel free to go back to gobo's partial recaps depending on preference, or simply continue on into the CBS era.

Another mistake in the Big Blowout is where the Technodrome is rolls over a highway interchange instead of plowing through it. The interchange is a little lower than the Technodrome's front cannon.

Regarding the missile, it takes NASA multiple fuel tanks just to get a shuttle into space. There's no way a tiny missile is going to get the Technodrome airborne, let alone free from the Earth's gravitational pull.

Episode 66: Plan 6 From Outer Space
Written by: David Wise

Voice Cast:
James Avery: Shredder
Cam Clarke: Leonardo, Rocksteady, Punk With Knife
Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson, Channel 6 Security Guard
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil, Woman in Park
Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Clothing Store Owner, Channel 6 Job Interviewer
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, Pretendicon, Man in Park

Mistakes:
1. The Turtles don't seem to recall human Bebop and Rocksteady, but back in Shredderville, they were able to identify them as humans.
2. When Krang was shaking Shredder, the wrist bands on his android body were red instead of grey.
3. Raphael's belt initial was white as in Season 2 after he recovered from being tossed in the snack truck.
4. When Raphael throws a thug into the dumpster, Leonardo speaks with Donatello's voice.
5. When Leonardo tells Michelangelo to hose Bebop and Rocksteady, on the close-up shot of the trigger, Michelangelo is seen with Leonardo's blue wristbands.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Krang calls the Dimension X army fools and idiots at the start of the episode.
2. Shredder tries to blame the "accursed Turtles" and not himself for Krang in terms of who's fault it was for losing the last battle.
3. Raphael says "Turtles Retire with Honor" as a parody of "Turtles Fight with Honor" when he feels that Shredder and Krang are gone for good.
4. Burne says "go go go go go go" when he sees the Turtles get ready to take on the punk right before we cut back to the Technodrome. This is his first usage of this catchphrase and will be a common occurrence through Season 7.
5. Shredder calls Rocksteady and Bebop cretins when he calls the Channel 6 office. Later in the telephone conversation, he calls them brainless slugs.
6. Bebop says "Mama!" as he and Rocksteady get thrusted back into Dimension X.
7. Donatello: "The Eiffel Tower is going to get some Turtle Power!"

Pizza References:
1. Michelangelo says that he could get back to making pizzas when standing in front on Channel 6, and also wears a hat that pizza chefs wear.
2. Donatello has a pizza on top of his Pizza Flipping Machine in his lab.
3. Michelangelo cooks about seven pizzas with toppings such as sausage and anchovies in the kitchen, but is upset that there is no pepperoni left.
4. When topside, Michelangelo groans that every pizzeria in town is out of pepperoni.
5. Greasy Eddie's European Pizza was the sponsor of the European Vacation prize.
6. Raphael: Michelangelo is going to see the Leaning Tower of Pizza!

Pop Culture References:
1. The title of this episode spoofs the 1959 Edward D. Wood, Jr.'s science fiction movie Plan 9 From Outer Space. In an interview by David Wise, he was asked by Fred Wolf to come up with as many references from that movie as possible. The 6 refers to the Channel 6 building.
2. In a studio inside Channel 6, Bebop and Rocksteady are taping an episode of "The Idaho Potatoes", which is a parody of the popular '80s cartoon California Raisins.
3. One of the lyrics of "The Idaho Potatoes" is "I heard it through the potato vine", a parody of the 1967 Motown song I Heard it Through the Grapevine.
4. When the computer in the Technodrome shows the plan for the Trans-Warp thrusters to take the Channel 6 building to Dimension X, sound effects from the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man are used.
5. Raphael: All I need is my Amphibian Express card. (A parody of American Express)
Rocksteady: I think we'll use our Oblivion Express! (Same parody done to the clothing store owner)
6. When Leonardo wonders what Michelangelo is worrying about in the lair, he thinks that it may be "Invaders from another Planet", a take-off on the Invaders from Mars films from 1953 and 1986.
7. Even though Bebop says that on Channel 6's schedule that there are Kung Fu kiddie cartoons on at 3:00 AM and although this was made in 1990, it can be understood to a contemporary audience as a nod to the Nickelodeon cartoon Kung Fu Panda.
8. One of the programs on the Channel 6 schedule that Rocksteady moved was "My Mother the Tank", a parody of the 1965 TV series My Mother, the Car.
9. When Bebop and Rocksteady wonder why Shredder contacted them at the Channel 6 office, he said that he dialed M for moron, a reference to the 1954 musical Dial M for Murder.
10. Raphael's remark about the "Leaning Tower of Pizza" is a spoof of Pisa, Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Raphael: "Next time I wish the writers would come up with a better plot device."
2. Raphael: "And don't ask me to say that again."
3. Bebop: "Here's another show we can personally cancel."
4. Rocksteady: "But we got something better: great ratings."

Wacky Inventions:
1. The Holographic Cloaker
2. Trans-Warp Thrusters
3. Pretendicon Robot
4. Donatello's pizza flipping machine

Kidnapping:
April is grapped by Bebop and Rocksteady in the potato costumes and is thrown into a locker in a room in the basement of Channel 6.

Notables:
1. First episode of Season 4. This brings about a number changes, including some new background music, the first appearance of the Technodrome on the Dimension X asteroid cleanly (drawn very rough at the end of the Big Blow Out), and a new closing credit sequence that includes the Turtles sliding down an elevator shaft from a shot of the episode "Bebop and Rocksteady Conquer the Universe." Also, Michelangelo's de facto weapon is now a Grappling Hook. However, his nunchucks are still visible on the back of his shell throughout this season (including the European Vacation episodes), and holds and swings them a few times even, including in this episode when the punk appears in front of the Channel 6 building.
2. Bebop and Rocksteasdy act as if they don't recognize Dimension X, but they spent the first half of Season 2 there. This could qualify as a mistake, but it is likely due to the mutants' low IQs and that they just don't understand it.
3. Bebop and Rocksteady last appeared as humans on screen in Shredderville. However, this was a dream, and the last time they appeared as humans in "real life" was in Enter, the Shredder. This is also their final appearance as "humans" in the series. However, they are not truly human since a holographic mirror still shows them as mutants.
4. The Pretendicon is similar to the Turtle Terminator in which it impersonates Splinter, much like Irma did in the earlier episode.
5. Lots of fanon consider that the European Vacation sideseason immediately follows this episode, given how the Turtles win a trip at the end of this episode. It is unclear however if the vacation is redeemed immediately. However, given that Michelangelo still has his nunchucks in his shell as well as with the Technodrome located on the Dimension X asteroid, it is presumed to take place in Season 4.
6. Irma appears in this episode but does not have any spoken lines.
7. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf Dublin.
8. On the DVD release of this episode, the logo for Family Home Entertainment from 1991 is shown after the credits.

Please go to post #58 to continue on to the mini-recaps for the Vacation in Europe (or as gobo likes to call it, Euro-cruise) episodes if you prefer to continue in that fanon.

Rob Paulsen: Raphael, Professor Willard W. Willard
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick

Mistakes:
1. Just as the giant Jacko attacks, Leonardo speaks in Donatello's voice.
2. Pay close attention to Michelangelo. As the giant Jacko grabs Michelangelo, the original Michelangelo is still holding onto Jacko's leg, but a second Michelangelo is pulled away.
3. As Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo first grabbed onto Jocko's leg, the close up shot of them shows them holding onto his bare skin.
4. As Shredder enters Professor Willard's lab, Leonardo says "Shredder!" wearing a purple bandana like Donatello.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Donatello answers his Turtlecom to reach April by saying "Donatello Here."
2. The Turtles say "Turtle Power" right after they agree with Leonardo's plan with stopping Jocko.

3. the Turtles are eating pepperoni pizza while watching April's report at the end of the episode.

Pop Culture References:
1. The title of this episode spoofs George of the Jungle, a popular 1960s cartoon series.
2. Right as Donatello reveals his Hot Dog Fixer-Upper, Raphael says "Make way for the garbage", a possible spoof on the line "Make way for the bad guy" from the 1983 movie Scarface.
3. The car that Burne drives closely resembles the 1958 Ford Edsel.
4. As the jungle vines invade the Lair, Raphael says "who's the Joker" as a reference to the Batman arch-enemy.
5. During the Com-link conversation, Krang says "Cry me up a River", a reference to the 1953 song "Cry Me a River" by Arthur Hamilton and popularized by Julie London.
6. Raphael: "Do you supposed this will count on my frequent flier mileage?", referencing the airline service that provides benefits which took off in 1979.
7. Michelangelo and Raphael reference the Banana Boat song, referring to a ship docked at the East River filled with bananas along with the lyric "daylight come and you want go home." It was made famous by Harry Belafonte in 1956.
8. Raphael on the ship: "Let's do a little monkey business", in reference to the 1931 Marx Brothers film.
9. Another King Kong reference by Raphael: "It's King Klutz again!" April also mentions about apes climbing tall buildings and grabbing women, and thinks that Jocko's seen the movie.
10. Jocko spins Michelangelo on the ground and Raphael feels that he his playing "Spin the Turtle" on him, after the popular game Spin the Bottle.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Donatello: "Ho ho. Very funny, Raphael."
2. Donatello: "They must have spent their entire budget on this one episode."
3. Michelangelo: "Oh, I always wanted to do that." He says this after his "oooooooooooo" chant as he was gliding across the street on a vine.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Professor Willard's Molecular Intensifier and Remote Molecular Intensifier
2. Donatello's Hot Dog Fixer-Upper

Kidnappings:
1. Jocko grabs April and leaves her tied up on a flagpole.
2. Shredder kidnaps Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Professor Willard and ties them up in the hotel's lab.

Notables:
1. Bebop and Rocksteady do not appear in this episode.
2. Professor Willard's lab is at the Park Central Hotel. In the real NYC, there is an actual hotel with the same name located on 7th Avenue near Carnegie Hall.
3. More background music cues are introduced, including "Donatello's invention" cue, a sample of the "Bugman" cue, the enhanced, higher-tension version of the Baxter Stockman cure that resembles the Twilight Zone theme (right as Jocko grows into a giant), and a remix of "Vernon's Theme".
4. April's stock scream is heard as Jocko grabs her from the flagpole.
5. This episode is animated by Murakami Wolf Dublin.

3. One of the tables at the Toy Fair says "Dolls 'R' Us", a spoof of Toys 'R' Us.
4. As Raphael and Leonardo try to destroy the Tyranno Toys, Raphael says "Signed, Sealed, and..." while Leonardo says "undelivered", in reference to the 1970 Stevie Wonder song "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."
5. Michelangelo hoped that it wasn't the Turtles' last stand, in reference to Custer's Last Stand at the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876.

Fourth Wall Breaking Humor:
1. Donatello: "Good one Raphael", after he stated that Michelangelo would better be suitable going to the Toy Fair as a toy.
2. Raphael: "Wilbur Weasel? Sounds like the name of a cartoon character!"

3. A flashback to an earlier scene occurs before Michelangelo goes into the Tyler Toys truck where Raphael appears in a circle saying Michelangelo "you'd have better luck going as a toy."
4. First usage of the "Turtle Tips" background music cue, used when Michelangelo arrives at the Toy Fair.

Townsend Coleman: Michelangelo
Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson
Barry Gordon: Donatello, Bebop
Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
Rob Paulsen: Raphael
Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick

Mistakes:
1. Donatello's strapping on his bo was missing when Leonardo used the pearl to knock over the marble warriors. In the same shot, Raphael's belt is red instead of brown.
2. When the Turtle Blimp lands on the roof, the "T" and "U" in "TURTLES" are not drawn as crisply at the top compared to the other letters, notably on the letters' upper sections where they are missing their green outlines.

Catchphrase/Insult Countdown:
1. Shredder calls Rocksteady and Bebop sniveling cowards after the get up from the broken vases.
2. Bebop: "Thery'll be Turtle Soup for everyone tonight!"
3. The Turtles say "Turtles Fight With Honor" as they battle the Peking Statues in the alley.
4. Michelangelo says "Cowabunga" as Raphael says "jump" as they dodge two Peking Statues on a pile of crates in the alley.
5. Shredder calls Rocksteady a blithering idiot during his com-link conversation during the Turtles' battle with the statues in front of the News Van.
6. Shredder orders the statues to get those "meddling reptiles."
7. Leonardo responds by ordering a Tatical Turtle Retreat.
8. Shredder calls Rocksteady and Bebop "fools, imbeciles, and cretins" after they are knocked down by the Turtles on top of the Peking Statues.

Pizza References:
1. When Leonardo tried to pass the basketball to Donatello, Michelangelo carrying a pizza was hit and the gum drop choco-chip pizza landed all over Michelangelo's face, and complained that it was perfectly ruined.
2. Leonardo instructs the Turtles to use the Pizza Parlor escape route when trying to avoid the statues.
3. Rocksteady and Bebop walk past Mongolian Pizza, which happens to be Rocksteady's favorite pizzeria.
4. When the Turtles are tossing the pearl, Michelangelo says that they thought they kept it in a pizza oven.
5. The Turtles are eating a box of Von Schitchel's Mongolian Pizza at the end, and Michelangelo asks Splinter to try it. It contains ox burgers and yak cheese as toppings.

Pop Culture References:
1. Raphael: "Magic Johnson, eat your heart out!" The Turtles are playing basketball at the start of the episode. During the battle with Bebop and Rocksteady, more basketball terms such as home court advantage and technical foul are used.
2. General Chang's marble army is based on the Terracotta Army of Xi'an, China.
3. Shredder orders the Peking Statues as "left my wife and 48 kids", which was once a common cadence count for marching bands.
4. The Turtles comment that the electrocharged pearl is some hot potato, after the popular game.
5. When Bebop senses defeat, he says to Shredder "I Think We're Alone Now", a pop/rock song that was a hit for Tommy James and The Shondells in 1967 and Tiffany in 1987.
6. When Vernon is caught with the wicker jar on his head, April says to him that it reminds her of one of her favorite songs, "Turkey in the Straw", a folk song that dates from around the 1820s.

Can't wait for you to do "Turtlemanic." I had noticed that Lt. Montoya, from the episode's opening scenes, looks a lot like Lt. Monahan from Quincy M.E. (His actor passed away, earlier this year.) Look it up, and between the facial design and the name, it isn't a coincidence.

The Rosebud reference, of course, was from Citizen Kane, but also a tad sly in characterization. Mainly, the Kane character had his own "weird collection" hobby, like the villain-of-the-day, Monroe Phlegm.

(Okay, saw the episode on DVD, yesterday, so it's fresh in my mind. Heh.)
