TMNT mentioned on Cheers TV Show
I'm a huge fan of the TV sitcom 'Frasier' and Ive just finished watching the entire dvd collection, that I got for Christmas. Now I've started watching the show 'Cheers'.. which is where Frasier came from of course. Being born in 86, I never saw much of Cheers, as I was too young to appreiciate the comedy.
So Im watching this episode called "I'm Getting My Act Together and Sticking it in Your Face" -- youtube link >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWTCDYvhcIQ. And Frasier begins to mention a Charles Dickens novel, which of course, none of the other characters know what he's talking about. So then he mentions four pizza loving turtles that practice martial arts in the sewer! Which Cliff replies in the usual boring way that he does... "Y'know, alot of people dont realise, that was a comic book first!" I couldn't believe my ears, and just had to post this on the forums! Hopefully someone else is a Frasier/Cheers fan, and will smile as much as I did when I heard it lol. The quote is at around 6 minutes in to the linked video above. |

There was also an episode of Married with Children that mentioned the turtles.

I never knew about that either. For more Frasier sightings, look for his crossover on an ep of Wings. Cliff & Norm showed up in an other one.

I also love when I'm watching a show and hear about them. And I totally saw that Married with Children episode a few weeks ago when Kelly teased Bud about having a Ninja Turtle pillow and said something about Donatello. I took offense because I have a Donatello pillow on my bed....

Ha, that was pretty cool. Cliff reminds me of a guy called Ali down my local. Guess every bar/pub's got one!

TMNT references in pop culture...
...and other random TMNT appearances!
So I was recently rereading American Gods by Neil Gaiman the other day and got to a page which had previously been folded at the corner. Then I came across "...and so he prowled the liquidation aisles, staring at the things for sale: Boxes of coffee 'for use in airline filters only', Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys and..." Amused me that I would fold that page over only to completely forget about then rediscover it years later. Then I was watching a movie last night called Four Lions, by Chris Morris. A quick synopses would be that its a black comedy about a group of rather inept jihad terrorists getting into other sorts of bother. At one point they plan to suicide bomb the London marathon. They go as runners in fancy dress, to hide the bombs they have strapped to themselves. One've the costumes is a Raphael. So I thought to myself (and did a search, apologies if there is one) that it would be neat to start a thread with all these little TMNT mentions, references, bits and bobs, etc listed as we come across them. So feel free to add any that you may or not have seen! Another very quick scene was in Doctor Who, 11th Doctor series five, episode 'The Lodger'. Very quickly, on a windowsill in the background is a TMNT figure. Stephen King's The Stand. Complete and Uncut edition. "He (Bobby Terry) sighed and took another book off the stack. The Ninja Turtles were supposed to be 'heroes on a half-shell.' He threw Raphael, Donatello, and their numbf**k buddies across the store and the comic book they inhabited fluttered down in a tent shape on top of a cash register. It was things like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, he thought, that made you believe the world was maybe just as well off destroyed." He then picks up a Batman comic, "there was a hero you could at least sort of believe in."

I think someone at the CW channel rather likes Turtles.
Last season they introduced the angel Raphael to the show Supernatural which lead to an entire episode full of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Angel" jokes. On the Vampire Diaries the two Salvatore brothers were trying to reason out what kind of new supernatural beings were suddenly in there town earlier in the season. The one to snark the other said that maybe they were "Ninja Turtles"

We had this same thread a few months back and it was really fun seeing what people came across.
Anyone able to find it & merge us over? I'm terrible with the forum search bar.
