That use of apostrophes is a mistake.

If it weren’t for remakes and sequels, they’d be making rip-offs. I’m OK either way.

I think the only successful reboot in recent memory is the new Planet of the Apes movies, which is surprising because the other one they made back in 2000 or so sucked too.

Besides Star Wars Episode 7, but that had to be a success given the prequels.

Crystal Skull was...average, I guess.
It was worse, than previous three movies, but not exactly a horrible monstrosity.

Also, never understood major hatred that some people had for this movie because of aliens. So, magic and immortal knights and A-OK, but aliens are NO-NO, in the Jones'verse? Like, really?

P.S.
I liked Terminator 5. It was fun action movie, as brainless as they come, but it was more entertaining that T3 and especially, T4.

I recently watched the 2000 remake of Apes. It really isn't all that bad, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

So did I. So much better than 3&4. I'm actually disappointed that the sequel was put on hold.
Spoiler:
I wanna see what Arnie does with his T-1000 liquid metal upgrade.

You have a point, we've seen dozens and dozens of reboots over the last 15 years but only a few have been successful. You're missing many other successful ones like Jurassic World, Mad Max among others but I do think they're the minority. Crystal Skull could be counted a successful since it did well at the Box Office and most of the criticism was only on the internet.

Dredd is another prime example of a reboot in recent memory done right, even if it did fail to spawn a franchise. That wasn't the movie's fault though.

I'd have written 80s and 90s. There's some debate about this I understand, but when you're talking about dates you don't need an apostrophe.

What about the Star Trek reboot? It was loved by critics, but hardcore Star Trek fans dislike it because of how much it altered the franchise.

Never seen them. In fact I have never seen a single episode of Star Trek or any of the films.

Steven Spielberg Promises One Big Thing for Indiana Jones 5

Quote:
With the 73-year-old Harrison Ford signed up for Lucasfilm‘s Indiana Jones 5, many fans are wondering/worried that director Steven Spielberg plans to have the same fate of Han Solo in The Force Awakens befall our favorite globe-trotting archaeologist. Well worry no longer, as the legendary filmmaker has told The Hollywood Reporter that he is not only “super excited” about the fifth installment but that adventure will still have a name at the end of the movie and that name will be Indiana Jones!

“I think this one is straight down the pike for the fans,” said Spielberg, who would not reveal plot details, with one exception: “The one thing I will tell you is I’m not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it.”

That’s great news for fans who would likely balk at such an idea, the same way they would be furious if James Bond accidentally slipped in the shower and cracked his skull at the end of a (hypothetical) final 007 movie. Even if this turns out to be the last time Ford puts on the bullwhip and fedora, it doesn’t mean the filmmakers have to have the death-defying character bite the dust.

“The opportunity to work with Steven again on this character which has brought pleasure to so many… Not to mention me,” Harrison Ford said previously. “It’s fun, it’s great fun to play this character. It’s great fun to work with Steven, I’m looking forward to it.”

Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce Indiana Jones 5, which will see both Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg return to the franchise. John Williams is expected to once again provide the music, while screenwriter David Koepp (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Jurassic Park) is signed to pen the script.

The movie is set for a July 19, 2019 release date.

Not at all. T3 was easily head and shoulders above T4 and T5, some jokes that fell flat and odd scenes about "Talk to the hand" aside. T3 also marks the last time TPTB thought that a movie about cyborg assassins murdering people needed to be R-rated.

This should be news to no one. He cashed in his chips for Indy and SW alike and beyond the outlines for Episode 7-9 Disney mandated him to provide (that they didn't use, sure, but people love to twist and pretend this was some kind of power ploy from Lucas to keep himself in the mix when he didn't even want to write them to begin with).

I'd really like to read those, actually.

Though Lucas was critical about The Force Awakens being a rehash of stuff done before, some would agree with him.

It's not even up for debate. TFA was a huge rehash of stuff done before. That's, like, all it was.

Such a long turnaround time. This movie was officially announced March of last year.

While it sounds a little cruel, it's possible he won't make it 'till then. Not with the kind of stunts he pulls, like with that airplane.
