The 1000 copy printed limit for the last few TMNT Vol.4 issues was because of the direct market sales from the comic stores overall were getting lesser orders from comic retailers. Tales of TMNT Vol. 2 limped along and stayed with Diamond all the way through. I'm sure another 'Dromer could give us the numbers for both series (prior to Vol. 4) leaving Diamond and after Vol. 4 for Tales' numbers. Peter came up with the 1000 limit as the best amount of I'd assume the average interested TMNT V4 readers that cared. He thought 1000 at $10 was the best option to keep the book somewhat profitable. Both titles were losing money, if not long ago. To an extent I think Peter may have contributed to keep the books afloat and kept with the losses. Also it aloud him to be away from Diamonds solicitation requirements: story summary, cover art, cover price, discount, etc. needed to be handed for the deadlines. He wanted to be free of this and the initial commitment he had up to that point of being bi-monthly. But also he wanted to focus on the TMNT '07 film. But from then on it became pretty few issues since. I almost wished the TMNT film didn't come about then maybe we'd have complete TMNT V4 series of at least a few more issues of it. Hoping we can get #31 from Mirage soon. Guess that may be it for now (or forever).

The reason Volume 4 only has 1000 copies per issue is because few people know or care to follow it this late in the game.
In a few years IDW will probably collect Volume 4 as well as the last issues, even if they'll be colorized at least the story will be there for people who want to read it. |

Well right from the horses mouth in one of Peter's rare "Ask Peter" blogs:
http://peterlairdstmntblog.blogspot....l#comment-form I find it funny that the persons name is "Dan" that asked the question. Why were volume 4 issues 29-32 limited to 1,000 copies? They seem to be the most requested issues. Why print such a small number if you know you can sell more? Reply Replies PLApril 26, 2015 at 7:13 AM What's that line from the old Rolling Stones song -- "You can't always get what you want"? I decided to try this new publishing model back when I was still doing the book on a sort of regular basis, but wanted to have some more flexibility than was offered by the traditional distribution route. I decided to try something different -- to create a collectible right out of the box -- only print 1000 copies, and sell them each for $10 (to try to cover production costs and make some profit as well), but at the same time release the book online in a digital form which could be downloaded and read for FREE. Is this a good model? I'm not entirely sure. It's an experiment. It allows some people to purchase something which is a pretty limited edition collectible (nothing new there, really -- publishers have been doing that for many years), while simultaneously everyone in the world with Internet access can read the issue for free, the same day it is released. And isn't the reading the whole point of comics? -- PL |

Having already read the story online, there wouldn't be much else "new" content, so I'm eager to see for myself what's in the thing.

Really? He was going to stick letters from fans about issue 32 into 31 I thought... That's a bummer.
The blank sketch page is normal for the last 4 or so books... I wonder if he sketched any... |
