New She-Ra Series Coming From Dreamworks

http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/trol...ix-1202637829/

Quote:
“She-Ra”
From Eisner Award-winning author and executive producer Noelle Stevenson comes a modern take on the ‘80s girl power icon for a new generation of young fans. The trailblazing property originally debuted in 1985 to satisfy demand for a female-led fantasy series. The series is described as an epic and timely tale that celebrates female friendship and empowerment, led by a warrior princess tailor made for today. The series will be available to Netflix members worldwide in 2018

I wonder how it'll work without He-Man or when he'll cameo.

If it's a reboot in the vein of the 2002 He-Man, I would definitely be interested.

Bonus points if it's a 2D series rather than 3D/CGI.

Yeah, fake feminism is bad. I hope it's full of real feminism.

I have to admit, I'm curious to see what a revamped/updated She-Ra looks like. One of the things that kept me away when I was a kid was the lack of diversity, so maybe that'll change this time around.

It's a show with a female lead. Do you really not understand how people would want to use that to promote female empowerment?

I think what he might be saying is that he hopes they don't convey a "girls rule, boys drool" vibe.

Anyway, since I recently watched He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special, I'll be looking forward to this.

Awesome! I wonder if this show will get toys, and if so who's gonna make them Mattel or Super7

Presentation, for lack of a better term.
One of the big turn-offs for me was just how girly and stereo-typically femme all the characters in the original were. Short skirts, go-go boots, make-up, that kind of thing.

It didn't play well with tomboyish ickle Plas.

Buuuuuut given the showrunner, who's helmed such titles as Nimona and Lumber Janes, I'm optimistic that there'll be a nice diverse grouping of girls in the cast.

You might as well, although I now understand what plastroncafe was getting at.

Well as "femme" as She-Ra might have come across looks-wise, she at least always seemed tough to me and proved that she could hold her own.

the problem was that it was a girls line. and it probably followed the rules of lines for girls at the time. hell, the main archer had a friggen heart on his chest.

I would hope the costumes would evolve appropriately with the times.

Oh yeah, she was pretty kick-ass, if memory serves...but it wasn't enough to hold my interest. Form me She-Ra was another in a long line of Boy Things Made Softer For Girls, which just pissed me off as a kid.

At the time it made me angry at girls, but that anger was waaaaay misdirected.

Based on her book Nimona, I think Noelle Stevenson is a really good fit to run the show.

I bet this will be better than Goyer's He-Man movie.

What do you mean, it had a leach man, a guy with four legs, a woman with no face, a rainbow dwarf, a dumpy old lady, a flamboyantly dressed dude with a Tom Selleck moustache.. I could go on.

I hope it's an adventure show for younger kids. I wouldn't want to see it played for laughs, or be too cutesy-poo, but I don't like the idea of it being too YA either. The original show wasn't perfect, but it was very colourful, creative, and earnest.
