Final numbers in for #4:

Rank 97 for 11/11: TMNT #4 -- 22,898 copies

Month over month from #3, which had 22,855 copies, we may be looking at the leveling off point.

As long as sales remain over 20,000 I don't see the problem. I am wondering how low they'll be willing to let the numbers dip. Isn't 10,000-15,000 what's considered the "in danger" range?

Hard to say what is "in the clear" range for IDW. If it was DC, it'd be in imminent cancellation danger already.

Yes, absolutely. I just say that as a reference point for "one company's sales figures are dramatically different than another's."

Which is why the people that used to make threads about "Wouldn't it be great if Marvel or DC did a TMNT comic?" really shouldn't ever want their wish granted.

20,000 copies more than the Mirage material was selling is a pretty big deal. Also, if it's of any reassurance, Highlander comics at Dynamite were selling in the 9,000 range and that was still considered acceptable sales to continue making new ones. It was when things dropped to about 4000 that the plug was pulled.

Better hope all these casual buyers who picked up these early issues merely out of curiosity stick with the series.

I think the IDW series could very well become the next Archie series in terms of length and success if they play their cards right.

Bobby has stated that once it begins to drop below 10,000 is when they will start worrying, so I think we are looking pretty safe right now. All signs point to longevity when TMNT issues are IDW's top comic in sales, one of the top non DC/Marvel comics, and selling out their initial runs (which means it sold more than IDW expected it needed to print).

True, but again these early issues are only selling merely out of curiosity.

It'll be interesting to see how many readers stick with the series.

Never knew Highlander had a comic series.
Hopefully the IDW Turtles will continue to sell and not end up somehwat short lived like Vol 3 did.

I just want a series to do on as long as the Archie series did. That's all I ask.

What's the point of a reboot if it ends too quickly?

There is a little bit of irony to the fact the longest running TMNT title was based off the OT.

Tales Volume 2 has been the only one that came oh-so close to it, but if you factor in the 4 Turtle minis then it did.

I'd be compelled to count at least Vol. 2's issue count into Vol. 1's, simply because even though there's a volume number separating them, there was no time interruption between the two volumes (unlike between vol. 2 and 3, or 3 and 4). If you do that, you get a run of 75 issues to TMNTA's 72.

Well, if you factor the 4 Turtle minis in Tales V2 then you have to factor in all the Archie minis and stuff too for the Archie material... and then Archie is WAY ahead.

Not necessarily. The 4 minis were birthed either from other Tales (Blind Sight, Bad Moon) or to fill in a perceived gap (Brain Thief, thrid Kind).

I do see what you mean, though.

I believe the Archie series comes out to nearly 110 issues with all the specials, miniseries and Mutanimals books.

I am of course not counting the movie adaptions or the sourcebooks or any collections.

I wonder how the Raphael micro sold compared to the main series.

And the Mikey. My LCS shop told me the Raph micro was flyin' off the shelves. So that's good news on the local front.

The rankings (the actual figures to come shortly) for December are in and it doesn't look like either TMNT #5 or the Raphael special cracked the Top 100. Doesn't mean much, though, since neither #2 or #3 were in the Top 100 either.

I can see the numbers seeing a somewhat significant jump when all of the Global Conquest editions come out, I'd think those would sell pretty decently worldwide for people who haven't gotten a chance to pick them up yet or snag them off of ebay. I know there are a few people over at the IDW boards in foreign countries clamoring for them and wondering when they'll show up.
