First Usagi in TMNT comics
I'm going to Planet Comicon in Kansas City here in a couple of weeks, and just realized Stan Sakai will be there! Anyway, decided I was gonna pick something up off of eBay to get him to sign while I'm there, but since I'm really only an Usagi fan because of TMNT, I would like to get something related to that.
I found this old thread talking about Stan Sakai and TMNT, so I'm thinking about getting the donatello micro 1986 and having him sign the pin-up. http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/sho...ght=Stan+Sakai My question is, is this the first Usagi / TMNT combo item? If there is an earlier one (that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg) I would like to get that for him to sign. Also, any other suggestions of some other TMNT / Usagi (preferably something Stan actually drew) to get instead? |

Yes, I believe the pin-up was the first cross over, issue #10 of Usagi with the backup story featuring Leo, wasn't published until mid 1988. And the Turtle Soup story was definitely before that because The Crossing references that story in one panel.

If I were you, I'd definitely get UY#10 for him to sign. This cover sums it up-
That bit of purple is just begging for an autograph!

Instead of accepting money for autographs he had a box for charity donation, which I thought was pretty cool. Of course I was too dumb struck like I always am when I meet someone I'm a fan of and forgot to put money in. Luckily my wife was with me, and told me afterward she put in $10 while I was geeking out. Got these babies signed, special thanks to Powder and Duke Nukem for pointing me in the direction of Usagi #10 Interesting tidbit about this pin-up, Stan said he was initially mad when it was printed, because when he sent it to them he didn't know it was for print, and said "If I knew they were going to print it I would have sent something better!" |

Glad it worked out for you and that my information helped. I like Sakai's mini Leonardo sketch with the weapons and all. It's funny that he seems to draw a better and more recognizable turtle than he did with his mini Usagi sketch. I've always heard nothing but good things about Stan Sakai so I'm sure it was great to meet him.

That's really awesome. I've always wanted to meet Stan Sakai. I wish they could get him to come to Heroescon sometime. Kevin Eastman was there this year but he was only there on Saturday and I had to go on Friday because my buddy had to work on Saturday. I was gonna get him to sign my MIB original 4 Turtles and I was heartbroken that I didn't get to meet him. I know his booth would've been crazy but I would've waited for as long as it would have taken.

I love Stan. I have been following him on FB for the past few years and the guy is truly amazing. With everything he went through with his wife...the guy is full of positive energy and just keeps on pumping out the smiles.
I met him last year at Boston CC...I hope I can meet him again (bummed hes skipping it this year)....I want to throw down for a commission. I was also surprised at his short line and his willingness to sign for donations. I went back to him a second time due to him not having a line (I don't like to have ppl sign more than a few items at once)

That's awesome dude. I'd love to have him sign my MIB Usagi also. Usagi is probably my favorite TMNT toy of all time.
