The title of your post is misleading. What exactly are your thoughts on Ep VII?

Not exactly about the upcoming movie, But it looks like the Mickey Moff has initiated Order 66 on LucasArts.
Disney closes LucasArts: http://www.forbes.com/sites/carolpin...own-lucasarts/ I fear I will never see my long awaited Battlefront 3, Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering... |

Good new for anyone who's bummed out about the Cancellation of SW: TCW and 1313. Dave Filoni revealed news about a possible new animated series that takes place between Episodes VI & VII.
http://m.tgdaily.com/games-and-enter...eries#!/exjun_ Now this hasn't been confirmed, but hopefully if such a project comes to fruition we may be in for a treat. Fingers Crossed. |

Rumor going around that Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be cast in Episode VII. I remember someone posting on Twitter a few weeks ago that they hoped Ep VII was the reason Cumberbatch was dropping out of the new Guillermo Del Toro film. I hope it's true.

I've heard rumors that he could be cast as grand admiral thrawn, which would be pretty sweet. But Disney keeps saying it will be a totally new story so I don't know how thrawn would fit it.
Also it's been confirmed that Ian mcdiarmid will reprise his role as the emperor( force ghost) and ewan mcgregor will again be obi wan(again Force ghost) in the new film |

Updated rumors have Cumberbatch playing a Sith for the entire trilogy not just Episode VII. I hope this turns out to be true.
Those reports about Palpatine and Obi-Wan are nothing more than rumors at this point. With filming scheduled to begin in January we should be getting some news soon. |

As impossible as it's always seemed, at this point I would be shocked if we did NOT get an official Star Trek/Star Wars cross-over movie in our lifetime. It probably wouldn't make the slightest bit of logical sense from a story perspective, but it would make perfect sense from a "space lasers and explosions" perspective.

Sadly with the new rebooted Star Trek movie universe I could see a crossover with Star Wars happening now. Disney already said there will be "spinoff" Star Wars movies outside of Episodes 7-9....like that rumored Yoda movie or whatever.
Its possible there will be a Star Trek/Star Wars crossover movie in there somewhere....even if its just Kirk and Spock meeting Star Wars characters. |

"Sadly"? In what universe would Star Wars and Star Trek co-existing NOT be cool? Even if it turns out stupid, who cares? It's junk food, it's popcorn entertainment, some of it happens to have a message but deep down it's all to give nerds stuff to use for their "You know what would REALLY be cool...?" conversations.
And we've all had the "What if Star Trek and Star Wars crossed over?" conversation at least once (or, more realistically, a hundred times). I say go for it. It's like Superman Vs. Batman, Freddy Vs. Jason or Aliens Vs. Predator. It's always fluffy and a little cheesy and never quite right. But you know what'd be worse in every case? NOT doing it at all. If they ever do it, it's going to make a metric ass-ton of cash, and I hope I get to see it in my lifetime. More power to 'em.

They could easily coexist. Star Wars takes place long ago in a galaxy far, far away, and Star Trek takes place in our galaxy, in the future. They don't rule each other out, or conflict. And time travel is easy.
I'd love to see it. Maybe the Enterprise gets shot back in time, and to another galaxy, becomes involved in a conflict, and has to choose sides. And at some point, Spock uses a lightsaber.

Hell Yes! And then Kirk meets Obi-Wan and finds out what a real man is!
I could honestly care less about the "How". TrekWars, baby!

There won't be any EU stuff in Episodes 7-9. Sorry.

I'm sure if there is it will be fairly obscure, but I'm not sure they'd want to entirely ignore the fans who are deeply invested in the EU. They know how popular the franchise is and they already know how the fans are.
I think they'll mostly avoid it but I also think there will be something in there as a wink, as well. Probably something most people wouldn't notice and wouldn't be contradictory to anything else. Maybe a character or a place or a ship name or *some* ol' thing. I'd honestly be surprised if they didn't, because no matter what they say beforehand, most of these kinds of movies do that.

There's gonna be a million people working on it at all levels before it's finished. I'm not saying they're going to adapt anything or even make direct references to anything. But I'd still bet there will be some random walk-through character that isn't named but looks an awful lot like some EU character, or someone mentions the name of a planet or a ship or something in a throwaway reference just so fans can go "Hey, wasn't that the name of...?" Movies *always* do stuff like that, even if it's tweaked a little bit.
Bryan Singer didn't read lots of Superman comics before making Superman Returns, he only knew the movies. But Bibbo and the Ace O'Clubs still crept in there, and that's a fairly obscure reference. People making movies are fans. They sneak stuff in just so people like us can catch it.

Yeah, there might be a few throwaway references to EU characters or even planets and things like that, but that's about all people should be expecting.

Best thing fans of the EU stuff can hope for is that it somehow leapfrogs all the EU stuff and takes place after all of it... the # of years after RotJ that the latest of the EU stuff pretty much corresponds to the actors' ages now, after all. But then even that might alienate people who didn't follow any EU stuff... because people would be walking into Episode VII with a lot of drastic changes that happened off-screen: 1) Chewbacca died in battle, 2) Millennium Falcon was destroyed, 3) Han and Leia had 3 kids, 2 of which died and one of which became a Sith Lord. 4) Luke got married and his wife died, has a kid named Ben. 5) Empire came back and was beaten back a few times. 6) Two massive Alien invasions were thwarted... I mean, it's a lot to swallow for casual fans who didn't read any of that stuff.

The comics will just take place in an alternate continuity now.
By the way whatever happened with Dark Horse and Marvel controlling the Star Wars comics? I remember hearing that Dark Horse was going to lose the rights to Marvel because of Disney, whatever happened to that? |
