Donald Trump to become first president to speak at anti-LGBT hate group gathering

Quote:
"Homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed,' say summit's host

Donald Trump is to address the annual conference of an anti-LGBT group which has been classified as a hate group.

The US president will become the first sitting president to address social conservative activists and elected officials at the Value Voters Summit in Washington DC on Friday.

President Trump has addressed the event which is hosted by the Family Research Council three times in total and did so last year as the Republican presidential candidate.

The Family Research Council opposes and actively lobbies against equal rights for LGBT persons. The conservative Christian group campaigns against same-sex marriage, same-sex civil unions, LGBT adoption, abortion, embryonic stell-cell research, pornography and divorce. "

So apparently "Da Donald" is up to his shenanigans yet again. Guess he needs a break from measuring dicks with his Korean buddy... see the irony in this yet?

Thoughts, American dromers?

Trump, although personally favouring traditional marriage, supports that same sex marriage will be legal throughout the country.

I don't see why some people would be against this, its not like he is siding with the opposition. And this is coming from someone who opposes Same Sex Marriage completely.

I mean... this organisation appears to be classified as a hate group. It'd be like me saying I like black people and don't mind them having the same rights as I do, and then decide to speak at a Klan rally or something. Seems a bit odd, don't ya think?

I was already typing a rebuttal, then I saw the bit at the end.
Have a nice weekend!

Not really in my opinion. Trump is in a position of power in that meeting and he doesn't have to cater to the group's views on a legal level.

My guess is he will probably tell them that he personally supports traditional marriage but it would be wrong to try and change the laws around marriage legally to restrict same sex couples, not because same sex marriage is necessarily moral, but because of freedom.

Woof.

Hate groups should not be legitimized by visits from the President, but I can tell the bar has been lowered to the dirt, because I'm not surprised by this, not just because this is also the guy who both sides'd Charlottesville but this sort are a core part of his voters, so it's not shocking he's going to play to them.

So it's a known hate group that I saw get live coverage this afternoon (since there was plenty of shots of the audience clapping for him)? Nice...

Didn't hear any anti-LGBT stuff out of him (unless I came in too late), but some of it was nonetheless irritating as a non-theist.

Though ultimately, despite his blabbering on, he didn't really say all that much in terms of substance. Mostly it sounded like he just put out a bunch of keywords/phrases for the people to clap at. Relatively pointless speech.

But I KNEW he'd start in on the fictional "war on Christmas" thing one of these days... And like everything else anymore, he couldn't wait until after Thanksgiving.

edit: Though he may get in trouble with some of his supporters for that "innocent Muslims" comment. lol

Oh is THAT where the war on christmas calls started?
I've seen vaguebooks about that start popping up.

Nothing makes something less sacred than forcing people who don't wish to participate, into doing so. If folks want to keep their holiday Holy, then their holiday shouldn't be a Federal One recognized by the entire government.

45 made a huge mistake today by participating in this event.
But then, I'm not the slightest bit surprised, the guy who forgot who the president of the US Virgin Islands was...

Mhmm... Gotta play to the base, I suppose. Nothing does it better, I guess, than some good old fashioned us vs. them. (Despite in another comment claiming "we stand united." So said the Great Divider...) To the base (or at least part of it) who decided there was a "war" because they no longer liked that there have always been multiple, entirely harmless holiday greetings. *sigh*

Maybe he saw a mirror. lol

I think it’s pretty amusing that he implies that he has any control over what holiday greeting someone uses.

The fact that he spoke there is disgusting. The fact that he does it in the name of Christianity disgusts and embarrasses me. I know that there are people who think its ok to force morality or legislate morality and do awful things in the name of religion, but damn. The text of Christianity basically says - Look, you guys live your lives civally and don’t hurt anyone. You let me judge who did the wrong thing. -

It isn’t up to anyone to judge what is morally right or wrong in another person. God said so. Leave it alone. Leave people alone. We got more in common than we have differences. Let peole live their lives, damnit!

I seriously feel like I don’t belong here anymore. Anywhere. I see all this hate and vitriol and divisive bullsh!t and it gives me physical pain. I don’t understand this world anymore for real.

Welcome to the real world, kid.

On a serious note: I know what it's like.
In a way it's a result of the speed information travels today and because press and bloggers prefer to concentrate their attention on negative news, because, more people interested in disasters, murders and bad stuff, rather than on happiness and the like.

From every iron you are bombarded with news of death, hatred and stupidity. But you know what? Humanity always was like that. We just didn't knew about it, because there was no way to deliver such kind of information fast enough to everyone.

But. There is hope. The fact that we have survived and thrive as a civilization, despite all odds, despite endless wars, hatred and cretinism of people with power and without. The fact that we are here, today, proves, that there is much more love, compassion and understanding between people, than modern news make you believe.

This should give you hope to believe in the best and the power of not fictional deities (who have as much power as Harry Potter), but in power of goodness of humanity, which as stronger than its power of hatred.

I totally agree the humanity isn't getting worse, it's pretty much staying the course it's always been on.

However it sucks to live amongst that.

Too often I regret having to be a member of it.

At times it has made me wonder, if the TMNT were real, what their thoughts on humans would really be, from the outside looking in while still existing (albeit secretively) within the same society and putting up with a lot of it.

I mean, how a species can be capable of such greatness and goodness and intelligence, and yet...can turn around and be so horrendous and idiotic. Wtf... If aliens are quietly watching, we're surly the best reality show in this region of the universe.

Can we just have a Donald Trump said/did *this* general thread instead? I mean these things happen nearly every day and they'll continue to happen for 3 more years if not 7 based on the way people haven't learned their lessons.

Eh depending on the iteration they realize that mutants, demons, aliens, time lords or any other sentient organism aren't any much better

You and I both know humanity doesn't get better. That's not the endgame, regardless of specific interpretation.

But I hear ya. And people thought George W Bush was embarrassing...

Well, look around and think of good and kind people out there. It helps.
Besides, what choice do we have? Non-existence, because, of idiots and greedy parasites or trying to live and maybe make a world a little bit better?

One thing to remember - you can not singlehandedly change the world overnight. That is a mistake that many "keyboard-progressives" make in their world view.

Actually it does.
Regardless of your personal opinion, objectively we live in the most peaceful time in the history of the human civilization.

If it was not for the global informational stream, you might have thought that we have already achieved paradise on Earth.
