The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The visuals are nice to look at... and that one scene in the end was emotional.

"Popeye" with Robin Williams. I love this stupid goddamn movie. It's all about the characters and the characters are awesome. Songs are hit or miss though, but the acting is on-point. The scene with Popeye and Poopdeck Pappy is brilliant and hilarious. The whole thing reminds me a lot of "Speed Racer", another movie that annoyed a lot of people by being exactly like the source material but did it perfectly all the same. I love it. My Mom hated it.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy a second time.

Still the best movie I could currently watch at the theater.

It really was, wasn't it?!? I don't think anyone could have played Popeye so spot on. Although most people don't even remember that movie, it was absolutely superbly acted, and that says a lot for the cast/director that they could pull off a film that so closely mimicked the original cartoon.

I watched a doco last night called The Celluloid Closet, which was a really interesting insight into the portrayal of gay and transgender people in film.

And good lord, the dialog fer chrissakes.

Poopdeck Pappy: His mother ups and dies, and he wouldn't eat his spinach!
Popeye: She choked on it, pop.
Poopdeck Pappy: His poppa out of work, and he wouldn't eat his spinach!
Popeye: It wasn't my fault.
Poopdeck Pappy: The whole country in a depressigan! Oooooohhhh, and he wouldn't eat 'is spinach!
Popeye: That was Coolidge, Poppa.
Poopdeck Pappy: His poppa going hungry. Going off to steal. Stealing what?
Poopdeck Pappy, Popeye: Spinach!
Poopdeck Pappy: So his ungrate son could grow up big and strong! You know what I done? You know what I done when the G-Man catched me and thrung me in jail?
Popeye: No...
Poopdeck Pappy: Hmm? I laughed!
Popeye: Yeah. You laughed?
Poopdeck Pappy: I laughed a whole year!

I nearly pissed. And I seen this a bunch'a times, it just stays funny for some reason.

Just came back from The Expendables 3. I think it was good, probably better than the first one or at least as good. EX2 is still my favorite, but Banderas was enjoyable in this one and I think Gibson's character is the best villain in the series.

edit: They showed a TMNT trailer which I hadn't seen before, and that one actually got me more excited for the movie than the previous ones or any comments I had seen so far.

I recently rewatched the 1990 TMNT movie. As for the theater, I saw Maleficent. Sometime in July.

Watched Aladdin on Saturday on Disney Channel. Knew they had to be playing it in light of Robin's passing. It's definitely one of those Disney films I've come to like a bit more as I grow up. Loved the little memorial to Robin Williams at the end.

And on Sunday:

Mulan: Okay Disney film. Always love the 'Short Hair' score that's played to that one scene.

Tangled: Good film. Doesn't think it has the best songs IMO, but I do like the story, villain, and comic-relief animals (Maximus FTW).

The Little Mermaid: Probably still one of Disney's best. Feels I can't really say too much about given it's become one of those films that you either like or dislike for numerous reasons.

Saving Mr. Banks.

Very heartfelt film and good biopic that doesn't try to be too overly saccharine.

Emperor's New Groove. Probably the funniest movie in Disney canon.

It's definitely one of those movies you come to appreciate more as an adult than as a kid (though I still liked it as a kid).

Captain America Winter Soldier. It was awesome.
Great story, good action, nice surprises, GEORGES EFFIN ST. PIERRE in a great fight scene, drama, fun characters.
Probably my fave Marvel movie along with Days of Future past.
