Just for the record, 80's Bebop/Rocksteady are in this too right? I seem to recall Rob Paulsen's leak script he posted on his twitter before he deleted it have them listed, but I don't remember.

It's confirmed they are going to appear. It was originally Nick Bebop and Rocksteady who weren't listed in the tweet so I thought maybe they wouldn't appear but now we know that both versions are gonna appear.

I wonder if the Current Bebop and Rocksteady are actually going to wear the 80's outfits in the episodes or whether it is just advertising for the cover. I can barely make out the technodrome to the right but I can' make out what's on the left.

Cool. Too bad 80's Splinter couldn't show up. Would have been especially interesting now because Nick's Splinter is dead and the Turtles would have gotten to see an alternate version.

Last time we saw 80's Splinter was back in Turtles Forever in 2009.

He might appear, that list is only some of the voice actors.

Voice actors for Leo, Raph, Nick Rocksteady and Bebop and the Mutanimals did there voice recordings on different days.

I wonder if April, Casey, Karai and Shinigami will also appear.

If 80's April and Casey could appear, that would be nice as they made a brief cameo in season 2 and their VAs were on the show before.

So we know these characters are appearing:
1. Nick turtles
2. 80s turtles
3. 80s Shredder
4. 80s Krang
5. Nick Bebop and Rocksteady
6. 80s Bebop and Rocksteady
7. The Mighty Mutanimals

Also, the 80's technodrome and its footsoldiers will also be significant parts of the plot.

Remember the Nick show can't have too many voice actors per episode, that's why some characters are always silent or missing. Might be too many characters.

Well except for Lone Rat and Cubs because that episode is supposed to air in August.
Aww, that's a shame. So this arc is scheduled for November?

If Nick doesn't air new episodes during December/January it might mean they'll move the finale into 2018. I'm really hoping they'll make an exception this time.

I hope we get to see the 80's robot Foot Soldiers too, given the Technodrome itself is in it we probably will.

It's not surprising, especially not after season 4. There's no point of thinking of an exception this time.

I'm just trying to figure out whether I should wait to watch this on TV, or the DVD.

Why? That seems like a completely arbitrary rule.

I'm guessing budget reasoning. Some actors and actresses, such as Mark Hamill, are high-profile. They do have lives outside the show and may have a higher pay compared to the main actors.

That's what Ciro/Brandon said on their instragrams when asked why Baxter didn't speak and only buzzed back in one of the Season 3 episodes. They didn't realize it when they originally wrote the episode, so they had to take out Baxter's lines from the script and replace it with buzzing sounds because they already had too many other voice actors in the episode.

It also explains why Casey is sometimes mysteriously absent in episodes like the recent Newtralizer one, that one had way too many characters and thus VA's in it.

Yup, budgtet. It's not like the OT where they had the main cast voicing practically everyone, especially Rob.

I don't know if they're paid per month or episode.

Per episode, assuming you mean those outside the main cast.

It's not at all arbitrary

It's not arbitrary, every part of the budget is carefully calculated so that the show doesn't run out of money. Voice actors are paid per episode, and in animation each episode is budgeted for a certain number of actors.

If you can afford 8 voice actors for an episode, but routinely write for 12, you're going to run out of money 2/3 through your season, and you'll have to raid another budget (design, animation, etc) or write a bunch of episodes with only 3 actors to make up the difference.

So it's not arbitrary, it's carefully planned out so that you never notice that limitation. But that can get hard when your core roster is so huge (the TMNTs, Casey, April, Splinter, plus whatever bad guys show up, like Shredder, Tiger Claw, Baxter, Fish Face, Rahzar, and god help you if you have a stunt cast like Kavaxas).

That's across the board in all animated programming, not just Nickelodeon. But to the broader topic about character limits, there's another factor here.

This is a CG show; every new character has to be designed, modeled, textured, and rigged. That puts very strict limits on how many new characters (and sets) can be built per episode.

It's not even a strictly budgetary issue, either. The design team only has so much TIME they can devote to an episode. With money you can always borrow from other budgets, but it's harder to do that with time. Each episode has a hard date where all of the assets MUST be shipped to the animation studio, otherwise they can't start animating.

That date is pretty inflexible, so at some point you'll literally run out of time to make new characters, even if you have the money for it.
