Nickelodeon Rumored To Be Working On Cartoon Based On ‘World Famous’ Video Game

http://411mania.com/movies/nickelode...us-video-game/

Quote:
Gamerant reports that during a recent episode of the Nick Animation Podcast, Frederation Studios’ Fred Siebert (The Fairly Odd Parents, Adventure Time) said that Nickelodeon is currently working on a cartoon based on a ‘world famous’ video game.

Seibert said: “We have a project now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world famous video games of the last 30 years, that we’ve had in our shop for twelve years without being able to get it started. But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going.”

The website reports that rumors state that Nintendo is the IP holder. So it’s possible that this could be anything the company owns, from Super Mario to The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo has reportedly started a new initiative to partner with companies for movies and TV.

Hopefully its Mario because we haven't had a Mario cartoon since the 90's.

Kirby had a 100 episode anime in the early 2000's, F-zero had a 60 episode anime, Pokemon is still ongoing, Donkey Kong Country had that awful CG cartoon from the 90's, Fire Emblem had OVA's in Japan, etc. Zelda might be too difficult to do in a weekly cartoon and get it right.

The only real option is Mario. Other franchises like Metroid/Starfox aren't popular enough, and Splatoon hasn't existed for 30 years.

It's Zelda. Calling it now.

It'd be pretty awesome, right?

The Nintendo IP part was just speculation.

A good Metroid adaptation could give them (Viacom/Paramount) something besides Transformers and TMNT to compete with Marvel/Star Wars/DC. I guess they own Star Trek as well, but that's not as kid-friendly.

And plucky female protagonists are trendy right now, what with Rey, Katniss, Jyn Erso, et al.

Is this a joke? Pokemon is one of the longest running anime of all time.

No, it's not.
It's also a cash-cow that could easily be made into an American franchise.

Why would they have an American cartoon based on Pokemon when it still has a long running anime that is still dubbed in the U.S.?

I can't even imagine what an American based cartoon on pokemon would even be like.

Probably the opposite of the TMNT anime.

Yes, because a grand total of a one off 2 episode OVA in the mid 90's was a big deal compared to the long running cartoon at the same time?

I also very much doubt Nintendo wants competition between their shows. Having two different Pokemon shows at the same time would be unnecessary competition between the same brand, and they clearly don't want that.

A Mario cartoon would be not so hard to do and would be popualr with kids, I'm sure.

A Zelda cartoon? I dunno. I don't think Zelda would translate well into a cartoon. You spend a lot of time in Zelda exploring dungeons and solving puzzles. Not mention all by yourself and you never hear Link's voice unless when he winces/screams/etc.

Could you imagine Link needing two or three episodes to explore a temple/dungeon of puzzle solving and killing off enemies... all of this without any dialogue? Or maybe they could give Link a voice but have limited dialogue with well animated action sequences a la Samurai jack.

A Metroid cartoon would be even harder to pull off. they'd have to create a bunch of original characters so Samus could have someone to talk to.

A Donkey Kong cartoon could be fun...

Not really. I find it pretty lame. But maybe if I had grown up watching it I'd have liked it? Dunno.

Easy fix.

We bring in Navi or a "companion" character for Link.
