Thoughts on Yu Yu Hakusho

I know random question but I'm sort of curious, I'm rewatching Yu Yu Hakusho and I thought it held up really well and I want to know everyone's thoughts on it.

From my memory I really enjoyed it.

Hoping Viz does the 3 in 1 manga rerelease for it.

There's something universal about the overall storyarc Yusuke has. And the supporting cast was just small enough that viewers/readers wouldn't become overwhelmed by a bunch of new characters. Kuwabara and Botan were my favorites.

It felt weird seeing its edited version on Toonami after it debuted on Adult Swim. It's the first English dub of an anime with curse words that I remember ever seeing.

Didn’t really feel the need to make a need thread for the live action

So watched the first episode of Yu Yu Hakusho live action. For a show that seems to be speed reading 2/3 of the series in 5 episodes, the first episode is about the closest to a faithful adaptation as one could get. My only real grip is that Yusuke’s death was supposed to be a complete accident and that’s what made his sacrifice unprecedented, and having it happen because of the whole show’s plot really undermined that aspect. But I guess since they cut out the whole “wandering spirit” arc of the series (which was my favorite of the original manga) I guess it’s fine.

the action scenes were pretty great. Helped that they were helmed by the same guy as the Ruroni Kenshin films, you can definitely tell in the end when a little gremlin showed up and fought.

overall, unlike Kenshin and One Piece, I feel like the show is going to be “supplementary” to the franchise rather an actual something that could be used as someone’s gateway. From a first glance, it feels like something that the Full Metal Alchemiat films or the Assassination Classroom films wishes it could be (where they are just “best of scenes”)
