Disney’s live-action 'The Little Mermaid'

Since Disney live-action remakes have been a huge hit, this was bound to happen at some point. Back in May 2016, it was reported that Disney was considering making a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Today, it was announced that the film's original composer Alan Menken would be teaming up with Lin-Manual Miranda (Moana, Hamilton) to write songs for the film. Miranda will also be producing the film alongside Marc Platt (Into the Woods, Mary Poppins Returns).

I'm anxious to see the underwater special effects. Plus, I think Jodi Benson should play Queen Athena, Ariel's mother from the 2008 prequel.

Disney is moving forward expansively with its live-action slate in general. In April it dated a number of films in addition to Alice Through the Looking Glass (May 27), Beauty And The Beast (March 17, 2017), as well as this summer’s Pete’s Dragon (August 12). The slate includes Cruella with Emma Stone set for the title role and Kelly Marcel writing; A Wrinkle In Time with Ava DuVernay attached to direct and Jennifer Lee writing; Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson set to star and John Requa and Glenn Ficarra writing; Dumbo with director Tim Burton and writer Ehren Kruger; and a sequel to Mary Poppins with director Rob Marshall, starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

About the only thing of interest to me with Burton's name attached to it over the past few years has been Beetlejuice II. But now it doesn't seem like that's happening.

So... will Depp play Dumbo? I mean, it's be offensive if Helena played Dumbo.

BREAKING NEWS:

Johnny Depp to play Dumbo.

Nothing makes sense anymore.

Hahahhaaha.

I don't even care, really, except that, I really want the zeitgeist to move on.
It's been 20 years of weird fetishistic (<real word or made up?) re-imaginings.

We can stop now. Time for new blood.

When was the last time anyone took Tim Burton seriously?

Frankenweenie? Dark Shadows? Alice in Wonderland? Edward Scissorhands?

Apparently Disney still does, and they're vote is all that matters...

Remaking Dumbo is a terrible idea.

Hopefully these remakes are based on the original material...
Little Mermaid: Ariel/Serena dies and becomes a wind goddess to earn a soul to get into heaven.
Mulan: There's been tons of live action adaptions about her. Meh
Dumbo: Got runned over by a train in Canada supposadly trying to save another elephant
Winnie the Pooh: There was an awesome Canadian made film about her life already...meh. I think there's also a movie about Christopher Robin Milne coming out too.

I wonder if they'll do a new version of some of classic songs such as "Under the Sea" and "Part of your World" like they did in the Jungle Book

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

The underwater scenes could be great looking.

Now lets have someone complain about CGI and how it should be filmed in a giant tank of water

I kinda wish they just CGI the animated cartoon. Kinda like what Kingdom Hearts 2 did but Pixar quality CGI.

But ah well, live action then.

I think HBC has gone the way of Lisa Marie.
