That really doesn't matter. It's Perry White we're talking here... it's about a big of a deal as Commissioner Loeb being black in Nolan's Batmovies.

Nope. Childhood ruined. I'm boycotting this movie.

The costume looks awesome. He fills it out it out a hell of a lot better then Brandon Routh. And the boots, they got it right. Although, I can't tell if he has the red undies. It's not Superman without the red undies. And they also got rid of his signature curl. Either way I can't wait to see how this movie turns out now.

Looks great. I only hope that the actual movie isn't as desaturated as this picture.
And hell no to the red undies. It works for Reeve and the comics, but not for a film that's supposed to be the most modern and realistic depiction of Superman. |

Wow, what a classic feel!
That's the first time in a couple of decades that a picture of a cinematic Superman has caught my attention. Also, IIRC New Superman doesn't have the red trunks.

Sorry to nitpick, but for some reason I don't like the hair. Everything else looks fine though.

Looks great. And it's pretty hard for anyone to try and justify the trunks on the outside.

When it comes to hero costumes on the big screen spandex is always out and rubber is always in. I agree the texture makes him look like a reptile.

I seriously don't get the big deal with the trunks. He's always had them, it doesn't have to make sense. His suit was originally based on a circus performer's costume, it's kinda garish on purpose. Everything from the clashing primary colors to the cape to the trunks is designed to draw your eye immediately. Superman as a character is supposed to stand out; corny or not, outdated or not, the trunks help the look. The trunks are what makes the suit say "super-hero costume", rather than "I'm going swimming with dolphins". A lot of artists who have drawn the books say Superman's costume is their favorite to draw because it is elegant in its simplicity, and that the shorts work from a design standpoint because they break up all the empty blue space of the main suit.
I know, I care too much. I also fear change, but we all knew that already. Any case, LOVE the picture the more I look at it; only one small nitpicky problem. Looks like they changed the upper corner of the S shield. It's barely noticeable, but I'm very particular about how it's drawn. One of the few things that bugged me about Returns was the way they did the shield and was hoping they'd fix it for this one. Could be the angle of the shot, though. I know, nitpicky bastard. 9.5 outta 10, though.

Which is why in the comics he has no tights, he can't really fly, and the Kents are both dead.

No no, believe me I know more than I ever wanted to know about the lousy new Superman relaunch. I was commenting on how I'll never understand why his trunks just bother people so much. Some people have been wanting them gone for ages, so I'm not shocked they finally have an excuse.
I'm going to boldly predict that not having trunks isn't going to suddenly turn the franchise around.

I always assumed it was just a point people liked to joke about rather than it being an actual problem. I've never seen anyone get all butt-hurt over Supes puttin' his stockings on before the undies. I assume that'd be because it isn't really a big deal.
