Big Trouble in Little China 2

Article: http://collider.com/dwayne-johnson-b...e-china-sequel

With the Rock? AND Kurt Russell?

“There’s a lot of things going on with [Big Trouble in Little China]. We are in the process of developing that, and let me tell you, the idea is not to actually remake Big Trouble in Little China. You can’t remake a classic like that, so what we’re planning to do is we’re going to continue the story. We’re going to continue the universe of Big Trouble in Little China. Everything that happened in the original exists and is standalone and I think there’s only one person that could ever play Jack Burton, so Dwayne would never try and play that character. So we are just having a lot of fun. We’re actually in a really great space with the story that we’ve cracked. But yeah, no remake. It is a continuation, and we are deep into development on that as well, and I think you’ll start hearing some things about that probably soon.”

Another one of those projects that is highly questionable.

BTLC was a very VERY much product of its time. It's a concentrated 80-s. Like Ghostbusters or Back to the Future. I am not sure how they gonna replicate this spirit of what they can replace it with.

That won't stop the studio from trying.

But hey, not everything has come out terrible. The Jumanji relaunch was pretty great.

I haven't watched new Jumanji, but I've heard it was basically a soft-reboot / continuation, with new characters, which had very little to do original movie.

It continued directly from the end of the first one. Board game buried on the beach and all. And they literally find the home of Robin Williams' character at one point.

Beyond that, no real connections. The Jumanji world didn't seem as scary as Robin Williams' character described it in the first movie.

Apparently, that movie was the primary inspiration for Mirage Casey Jones.

Has to be a FAKE thing. "Raphael" came out in 1985 and Big Trouble in New York wasn't released until July of 1986.

Oh, well, I stand corrected!

EDIT: Okay, Eastman (last paragraph) does cite the character as inspiration for the "development" of Casey Jones, though not necessarily the origin:
https://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/06...roes-con-2014/

I can see how that would make more sense too, considering the radically different concept art sketches done before Raphael #1.

Seems like I was reading Eastman's editorial to Bodycount recently and came across it in there too.

The title should have been "Huge Trouble in Tiny China".

Can you believe I only saw this movie for the first time last year?

Watching it I was like... why hasn't this been part of my life until now? I would have loved the sh*t out of this as a teenager. Love it all the same, but still. Would have paired nicely with my ritual watching of Evil Dead 2 and Toxic Avenger and things like that. Bummer.

I'm about to go see Drunken Cinema's Big Trouble In Little China in Toronto in a couple weeks. Think of it like a communal drinking game at the theatre. Can't wait.

That's insane. I tend to think it's mostly aged well in the same way "The Thing" has. Beyond mostly holding up and serving as a reminder of how much fun the good R-rated actioners of yore really were.

Oh yeah, I had an absolute blast seeing it for the first time (I'm sure the edibles helped the experience). Held up really well in that charming only-in-the-80s kinda way. Kurt Russel had that smarmy arrogant leading man down pat. Reminded me alot of Bruce Campbell to be honest.

Looks like John Carpenter isn't happy about the new Big Trouble in Little China starring Dwayne Johnson.

They want a movie with Dwayne Johnson. That's what they want. So they just picked that title. They don't give a **** about me and my movie. That movie wasn't a success.

Just another The Rock movie, then. It was still nice to dream for a minute.

I actually, legitimately forgot about that movie. I never would have had to think about it ever again if you hadn't had brought it up. F*ck you.
