The new movie's title is Teenage Mutant. That doesn't make much sense to me.

If we're talking strictly about box office sales instead of the actual quality of the movie...I don't think it'll do THAT well.

It'll probably do better than the 3rd and 4th TMNT movie did, but I don't think sales will be as good as movies 1 and 2.

...alternatively, the fact that some moviegoers are not concerned by "how similar to Mirage Comics or previous iterations" the film is, and just want to go and see a fun movie. If this is a fun movie, and people enjoy it, it will be successful

It feels almost ridiculous that I have to point it out, but just because you don't like something, doesn't mean people who do are "stupid" (and let's all remember, none of us have seen it yet!)

People aren't so dumb that they would repeatedly watch movies that they don't enjoy. Some people just want something fun to do for two hours. Some people just decide, "Let's see a movie," and pick one off the list. It's $8-12, it's not that serious. No one cares as much as we do. And even mindless fun has its merits. People don't always want to think. Especially when they're paying to trade their real stresses for a fantasy land. And they walk out of the theater without analyzing every little detail, because it was a fun ride, and that's all they wanted.

Yeah, Nobody wants to watch a movie that reminds them of the real world, Its the reason why most go to the movies, for the Escapism. which is why I only go to the movies that are scifi and fantasy, Anything that's drama or based in RL I avoid.

And yet fun doesn't also have to equal dumb and/or bad.

Avengers was fun and also a great movie.

You can take your job seriously as a filmmaker and respect the source material and the fans without making the movie take itself too seriously(like, say, the first tmnt movie).

Doesn't really seem to be what Bay and company are about. Giving fans and the material the fans love the respect it deserves.

Hopefully the film will raise the profile of the TMNTs without sucking.
I think it will raise interest in all things TMNT and we may see a rise in TMNT related things for a few years to come. That's gotta be something to look forward to as a fan.

I don't mean to say that the movie has to be dumb. I'm just rejecting this notion that Michael Bay preys on movie goers being stupid. Generally speaking, people know what to expect from a that kind of movie, and they're happy with them.
