Watched The Mummy with Tom Cruise.
I actually really enjoyed it. Cruise is a fun dumb but adventurous rogue, he's no Brendan Fraser though. Ahmanet got to do a few cool things beyond being a sexy undead mummy and she looked genuinely creepy before getting the mandatory sex kitten villain look. I also liked Crowe as Dr. Jekyll, so much I'd love to see a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde movie with him, the best part was that Hyde was not a literal Hulk as we've seen in so many modern versions like Van Helsingborg and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It's a shame it did not feel like a Mummy movie as the makers was far too busy using it as a set piece to introduce the Dark Universe then tell a good story. The best part of the movie gotta be Cruise trying to fight Ahmanet head on and she just slaps the bejeezus out of him with a simple backhand. Great ragdolling from Cruise, 7.5/10 on selling those slaps. |

The mummy was too cute for me to take her seriously. I legit forgot it was supposed to be a reboot of the Brendan Fraser movies, though. And “Dark Universe”- what a great idea that would’ve been. /s

Especially when Dracula Untold was supposed to be the first Dark Universe movie, but since it did poorly it was swept aside

Watched Bumblebee holy **** this movie is perfect. The Cybertron scenes were fantastic. Also the earth story was good too. Removing the Cancer that was Micheal Bay was the right thing to do. Loved everything about this movie holy ****.

I saw Captain Marvel.
I shouldn't have, though. I went despite the numerous warnings from people in-the-know, and now I'm paying the price. You see, as many of you know, Captain Marvel is a woman. And not just any woman. A strong woman. And despite my best attempts to objectify her, she still managed to steal the show. And that's when it happened. . . My peepee fell off. Laugh if you must! I know the ultra-masculine and not-at-all insecure protesters will do the "I Told Ya So" dance. . . but I have no one to blame but myself. . . and Obama, since I can't handle any actual personal responsibility. So just Obama. It happened at around the 47 minute mark, if anyone's curious. And despite this, I didn't immediately leave the theater. I just preserved my detached appendage in the left over ice from my coke. Does anyone know a good surgeon?

I was thinking about studying but I don't want to waste my student sudsidies on the summer. Where am I again? Oh right, a movie theatre... Is Shazam out yet?". |

Shazam. I didn't think I was expecting superhero movie with so little superheroing but that's what I got. For the most part it's a comedy about a kid in a grown man's body, which to be fair, is what the trailers sold it as. It's not bad as a comedy by any means and it's also pretty good when it remembers to be a superhero movie, it's just that I thought the trailers were simply playing up the comedy for marketing.
Also, Darla is cute, best sister by far. |

Bummer. I really liked the stuff in the trailers that actually focuses on the super-hero stuff. I was hoping for a lot more of that.
I'm sure I won't hate it, but it definitely doesn't sound like the movie I would have preferred. Ah well.

Day of the Dead: Bloodline.
Remake of the 85 movie. It was okay, although a bit weird having the sentient zombie being a creepy stalker in life that tried to rape protagonist right before the zombiepokalypse. Rewatched Man of Steel. Big mistake, it was a lot worse then I remember. Still scenes I like a lot, like Superman first flight and Zod doffing his armor and starts to levitate. But the plot, the codex business and all the weird choices. At least Cavill is charming enough (when he's allowed to be) that you almost forget he's wearing the ugliest Superman costume. And that World Engine. It's almost a robotic creature with its tentacle defense system, it almost looks like it got long legs. Is this the Mechanical Spider they wanted in Superman Lives but ended up in Wil Wil West with Will Smith? Or am I overthinking it Rewatched Rage. Nick Cage doing a sad Taken riff. I only recognized I've seen the movie before when the twist ending came, it's not really that good but entertaining enough. |

Over-thinking it. It was clearly inspired by the various Kryptonian ships and tech from John Byrne's relaunch. Everything Kryptonian as far as the ships and technology was a hybrid of Byrne and Mike Turner's designs.
Since you asked.

Guess I can see some Byrne influence, donno about Turner as I've avoided reading stuff with his art. Although, the MoS designers gotta have taken a page from Giger with those dildo shaped Phantom Zone capsules Zod and Co was trapped in. Completely forgot about those and nearly choked on my soda seeing them

A very curious design choice indeed. I confess I didn't catch it the first time, somehow.
Interesting. Any particular reason regarding Turner? His stuff was a bit too "pin-up" but I thought it was okay. I liked "Godfall". Most of what MoS borrowed from him was the Kryptonian armor aesthetic. There's much better examples but this was all I could grab on short notice: Again, not the best example but I only had a minute, sorry.

His art was a bit too "what if Liefeld's art style and J Scott Campbell's art style had a baby" for my taste.

Dead in a Week (or Your Money Back)
Weird little gem on Netflix. Stellar cast. Really, really enjoyed it. Depressing little comedy. Reminded me of a certain buddy of mine. Not sure that's a good thing?
