New Movie Postponed... Release date pushed to May 2014

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/56447

"The heroes on the half shell are getting put on the shelf indefinitely.

Paramount has pulled the plug on the Jonathan Liebesman-helmed reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, pushing its release back indefinitely... and, no, it's not for 3D post-conversion and/or more Channing Tatum.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Paramount, already gun shy with the delays the studio is facing with G.I. JOE: RETALIATION and WORLD WAR Z, is willing to take its time with NINJA TURTLES in order to iron out what it feels are script problems. Rather than rush it out there in order to make its December 2013 release date and potentially damage the future of the franchise with a poor showing, Paramount is learning their lesson of putting forth a subpar product that may come back to bite them in the ass later. Better late than never.

In the meantime, Platinum Dunes will have to chill with the reboot, and, once the script is ready to go, NINJA TURTLES will move forward again... but when that will be is right now anyone's guess."

Your Thoughts?

Someone should change the thread title. It's definitely still happening.

NINJA TURTLES PUSHED BACK TO MAY 2014

Another week, and another Paramount movie in trouble. First there was G.I. Joe 2‘s plot problems leading to reshoots and a release date delay. Then there was World War Z‘s problematic production and required reshoots and third act revision. Now it’s the Michael Bay-produced Ninja Turtles reboot. Paramount says it has pushed back the pic’s start date by 10 weeks in order to cut the budget $10M to $20M down to $125M. That means the release date also will push back: from Christmas 2013 to May 16, 2014. Initially, Paramount hired the Iron Man writing team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway for close to $1 million to revamp Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for a fast-tracked live action feature film to be released in summer 2012. At the time, the studio was looking at this as its next huge franchise like Transformers. Then the Jonathan Liebesman-directed live action-CGI combo’s release date was pushed to Christmas 2013. Now Paramount tells me it’s pushed again to May 16th, 2014 — presuming that the studio’s cost target is achieved.

So, mabey they were going to be aliens after all? or it could of been some thing else. (I doubt they were aliens in the first place.) What are your guy's thoughts on this.

The only problem is that May 2014 is already bursting at the seams with big releases, including the Planet of the Apes sequel, the Spider-Man sequel and an as-yes-unrevealed Marvel Studios film. Interesting that Deadline says the budget is 125 million. Another article over at the Hollywood Reporter describes the film as being "effects heavy". Really hoping it is just temporary.

Basically, Paramount have got problems. I don't think anyone can deny that.

Maybe Bay's name will detach itself from this by the time it comes back.

And the Nicktoon will decide if the world is ready for more TMNT right now.

Hm, oh well. As long as it makes for a good movie, I don't mind.

After reading the thread I'm glad they still plan on releasing the movie. The thread title made me almost go bonkers! I guess I'm fine with it in that they want to make it as good as they feel it can be. We already love the characters that are going to be in this movie so the script is the most important thing. I guess I can wait a little longer....again as long as it's getting made.

Maybe this is for the better. I always said that the summer is better suited for this type of film. This way it can get the exposure of a real summer blockbuster. I’m just a little nervous, though, because after having looked at the release schedule for 2014, May 16th is the same release date as the unrevealed Marvel Studios film. Many people think it will either be Doctor Strange, Ant-Man or Black Panther. Could any of them beat out the Ninja Turtles?

In short, I don't think we should all cry just yet. This could work out well.

Hopefully Michael Bay will give an update on his website like before.

Great news. This gives me hope whatever script they're using may not be the final one.

Ironing out the script is good news, let's not make this an effects-driven brainless bit of action shlock, let's have a story with heart and purpose, something missing from every brand-based movie nowadays.

I’m starting to wonder whether it was all that hoo-hah the “aliens” thing created that’s had a part to play in this delay? Could be.

That was my thought when I saw the news. Its good they are taking notice of the backlash on the alien concept. The question of how much profit it would make as well with this backlash and with Turtlemania is in the past played into the script rewrite after TMNT without criticism got just $60 million. It all comes down to how much money can be made.

Yep. This will hopefully allow more time to flesh out a more decent product.

It's not because of the aliens thing. I can almost guarantee that. Studios don't give a f*ck about nerds complaining about things.

More script work? That's nothing but good. Shows they care about the project and want it to be worth watching.

Channing Tatum should totally play Raphael though.
