Maybe this movie will give Lady Sif a triumphant return like Bo Peep did in Toy Story 4. It's also possible that the beginning of the movie can explain her absence like they did with Bo as well.

Yeah, one of my big gripes with Ragnarok is that Sif was completely cast aside, not even namedropped to explain her absence. Some have said she was shafted to give Valkyrie more of a spotlight, but I think the two are different enough to coexist.

That would make me happy, if they brought Sif back to the forefront. It even suits the "strong womyn" deal they're onto.

Amazes me that Thor is still going instead of Cap/Iron Man. Beta Ray Bill was rumored to appear in Guardians of Galaxy 3 so he might be in this too.

Yeah it does feel a little 80's.
This was surprising to me, I assumed Thor movies were finished too. Not sure about Protman's character being a female Thor, but will wait and see how that comes to be. Last edited by newfan; 07-21-2019 at 03:33 AM. |

They're taking another bold risk. Portman is dry as ice, and Lady Thor was a vital component of Marvel's infamous "woke" phase from 2015-2017 that almost tanked the company in comics sales
Oh a few bright spots aside, they've been a zombie franchise for a while now, people are just catching on. |

It's not like Jane Foster as Thor was even meant to be part of Marvel's "woke" phase. It was originally intended as a short story but was so well received it was stretched out for years and done so successfully. Both volumes of Aaron's Jane Foster Thor series outsold Aaron's own God Of Thunder series which preceded it and at the time was hyped as proof Thor could be a top seller. The character even generally sold well across the various formats. Digital, trade and the (apparently) all important single issue floppies. She succeeded on the terms even comicgaters set not that made a difference to their reception of the character. A character that did that well was always a no brainer to be adapted into the movies. The only real suprise is that they've actually managed to tempt Natalie Portman back. If we're viewing the comics as something like a test kitchen for ideas for the movies then Sam's reception as Captain America was mixed. I imagine they will see how the mini series is received to see if/how they want to incorporate Sam Wilson into further movies. Last edited by Galactus; 07-21-2019 at 12:01 PM. |

How would this even work anyway? Thor's hammer was destroyed in part 3.

My money is on Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness playing a role. That Jane's Mjolnir if not this version of Jane herself comes from another universe. |

There's an alternate timeline version of it that replaced the original in Endgame.

Unsure how I feel about all of this. I'm happy that they're actually going to do something significant with Jane Foster after all these years, but I didn't actually think that Female Thor would happen in the MCU, at least not for a while. I'm mixed about the concept itself, it raises a lot of questions: Does she replace our current Thor, or will there be two Thors? If "our" Thor is replaced, will he become unworthy? Does this open the door for characters like Beta Ray Bill to come in? The movie's pretty far off so I guess all these will be answered in time. Trying to reserve too much judgement until then. |
