Japanese TMNT Toys
Hi guys, I just got back from my honeymoon in Japan, and there's a whole bunch of great TMNT stuff out there! For a start, I went to a toy shop in Ueno I think called Yamashiro, which had loads of loose and MIB vintage stuff for sale! Mostly figures. It was pretty expensive, but it was just cool to be able to see it in a toyshop again. Another shop in Nagano(?) had vehicles too, like the original party wagon.
My main reason for starting this thread was that in a little specialist shop in Shibuya I found a sewer lair playset for the 2003 series which I'd never seen before. It was mostly cardboard with some plastic inserts, and it had two levels. On one side was the sewer, with a small punch bag and scaled down bridge/seesaw thing. There was a door in the wall which gave access to an urban part on the back, which looked to be for parking up the vehicles! The whole thing folded into a carry case. I've had trouble finding any info about it, but I see that there was a similar lair available in Japan for the vintage series. Can anyone shed any light on these playsets? Was there a Foot equivalent? |

Also, while trying to find it again, I found this http://www.flickr.com/photos/2204780...46974/sizes/l/ I freaking want this! *Looks at who uploaded it* Hey, it's oldmanwinters' photo. Still trying to map the lair, eh? Oddly, that's about right (missing some rooms though). I know their only cardboard playsets, but their quite nice and if Playmates had any since they'd release them here for a cheap buck. Quote:

That's the one Blade Raider! I agonised over whether or not to buy it, but eventually decided that it was pretty pricey for what it was. Now I see it again, I'm not so sure?! Thanks for the pic!
That vintage playset with the multiple rooms is pretty damn cool! I agree that Playmates should rerelease that as part of their 25th Anniversary celebrations, it looks really playable. Though I would have been all over that Busy Builder set, I like my turtles sewer to have a street above it! I wonder about the scale myself. |

I think 4,725 Yen (about $46) is still pricey for what it is. However, for an item that will make everyone here drool (me at least ), it might worth it.

Make sure you take plenty of pictures to share if you shell out for it.

I like how the turtles have their own rooms, very cool item. And yes many will indeed drool (or at least REALLY want one).

Here is another Japanese TMNT playset of sorts:
Link If you look closely you can see it is a city playset, probably made of cardboard.

Double Post!
Here's another shot of the Sewer Playset, although the monochrome color makes it a little hard to make out! http://www.flickr.com/photos/2204780...81119/sizes/l/

I'm halfway decent at Japanese. Taking a quick glance at it all and not taking time to translate theharder stuff...
The Lair: On the diagram showing what everything is, clockwise (from the top left) all the rooms translate out to: - Training Room - Main Room (I'm assuming a living room) - Leonardo's Room - Raphael's Room - Donatello's Room - Michelangelo's Room - Gate (the area with the manhole) - Garage On the other advertisement in oldmanwinters' post, from top to bottom: - Advertises a battle playset and the Turtle Saint (when all four Super Turtles combine) figure - Advertises mutating Turtles that transform into Super Turtles - Another ad for the Turtle Saint and Battle playset An interesting thing to note about the bottom Turtle Saint ad is that the big text at the top basically says "Cool!!!" Also, while they were mainly known as the Mutant Turtles and the Super Turtles in the mini-series those figures came from, in the smaller text on the left it refers to them as "Kame Ninja" or "Turtle Ninja" instead of their normal name. It reminds me of how the original NES TMNT game was called "Geki Kame Ninjaden" or "Attack Turtles Ninja Legend." |

Here's a great find for you rare toy enthusiasts:
http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b119209354 Pretty impressive, eh? These are the best images I've seen of this playset, which previously I had only seen advertised in tiny print on my manga issues! [For example]
