That's a distinct possibility. I hope not, though.

Honestly, they should've just let her die in the attack on the bridge. They could've further complicated Ben's internal struggle by giving him this chance for redemption, but he's driven further towards the dark side by her death at the hands of the First Order.
Spoiler:
Arguably, though I considered that when watching the movie. Had she died there, it wouldn't have thematically fit with the rest of the movie. It'd just be this odd death breezed over to get to the rest. More people would complain about "Wow, what a lame Leia death that was!" than not.

And the thought of re-editing the movie, removing her other scenes to suddenly have her die there just because Fisher died? That's horrible. Evil. The actress not even in the ground a year, and now you're going to retroactively murder the character she's known for? Truly awful.

I want to see Hux die a painful death in Episode 9. He's literally the most boring Star Wars villain in recent memory, I can't believe he survived through the entire new trilogy till the last movie. I honestly can't think of a single way to describe him other than a militant leader who wants to kill everyone.

I honestly think they only left him alive so Kylo Ren has someone to interact with other than generic admirals, but that's basically just what he is anyway.

I would describe him as an amalgam caricature of every Imperial officer we ever met in the OT. He doesn't work on any level.

Even the main General villain in Rogue One was more interesting, and he wasn't much better.

To be fair nobody can touch Tarkin:

This is the face of a man whose a professional and has some prestige around him. Even if his overconfidence got himself killed when he decided to stay on the Death Star instead of fleeing. I don't think they were ever able to top him.

The coolest thing about Tarkin is that he gets to boss Darth Vader around whenever he wants. I think that's what made Boba Fett so popular; in ESB Vader kills his coworkers left and right, but Boba Fett is ballsy enough to be forward with him and not get his head chopped off.

Imagine if Hux were played by, like, Kenneth Branagh. Imagine how differently that would play. He could pull off what I think JJ was going for, not the actor they have.

Another thing, do you think we'll ever find out what happened to Lando or Wedge Antilles in this new movies? They have one last movie to mention them if they do at all, or they'll just ignore them. Even if they don't use the actors they could get an off-hand reference or something.

I like to think Wedge is still out there fighting for the rebellion surviving against all odds.

I remember an interview with the Antilles actor and he said he was asked to be in TFA years ago but turned it down because it was just a tiny wink-wink thing, and he didn't see the point.

No clue on Lando. I remember hearing he had to bow out of Dancing with the Stars to join the set of TLJ... but apparently that never happened, or just didn't work out. Maybe he would have been on that casino planet, betting big and cleaning house. Or even still a general, standing around with Leia.

Lando was originally considered to be in The Last Jedi for the DJ role.

Yeah right?! Lando would never betray anyone like that and have that level of moral ambiguity.. oh my god my brain just melted.

WTF?!

If he's speaking of a 60+ year old Lando, I don't see why he would. This is not the same character from 30 years ago. Lando is the one who helped destroy the second Death Star for goodness sakes and worked with the rebellion. Why would he still be a shady character 30+ years later?

Probably the same creatively bankrupt reasons 80 year-old Han would be a smuggler again 30 years after becoming a general and helping blow up 2 Death Stars. Glad that was thrown out but it's too bad that nothing else suitable for Lando was available.

But really. If nothing else stood out, why not just make him (er, continue to make him) a fellow general with Leia? Minimal lines, minimal screentime... but he's there, at least. If nothing else, he'd provide a single character other than Leia and Chewie to react to Han's death with something substantive, coming from real time we know a character has spent with Han. I mean, hell, the Falcon is (was?) his ship.

I'm not saying let's cram everyone from the OT we can into the sequel trilogy just because... because that's equally as dumb as reverting everything to an OT level. What I'm saying is... we have Billy Dee Williams. He's here. He's alive. He's getting older. He's a fan favorite who would probably love to reprise Lando one more time and millions of people would love to see it. 5 years from now, you probably can't do it. Now, you could have done it. Why not find something for him?

Did he really say that?

has the dude even seen star wars?

oh well, it would be no different than all the other stuff they rehashed for no reason.

star wars is doomed.

Do you have no concept of character development? Lando wouldn't betray people to the empire NOW 30+ years later compared to when we first met him and even then he went back on his decision rather quickly letting Leia/Chewy go.

It might have been a neat (if frustrating) cameo if Lando was the actual Codebreaker with the lapel pin that Finn was sent to retrieve, playing cards at the table... but Finn gets pulled away before he can meet him and put in the jail cell to meet the Benicio Del Toro character, as it happens in the film.

It's not like he was a huge character in the OT, his scenes were already wink-wink in that one

I don't mind not having Wedge, I liked him but he'd be so old now I couldn't see him having a role piloting anything, maybe as a commander but there really isn't much time besides a super quick cameo which is why he didn't like it apparently.

I liked Solo in TFA despite this, but damn, brutal.

That would've been pretty awesome, maybe with Fisher gone the possibilities of him returning are bigger?

I also don't want him to hog the spotlight but a few scenes would be nice.

Yeah, I agree. It's like the Antilles actor remembers a different Wedge than we saw in the OT? He had like one tiny scene which wasn't him in a cockpit, and that was just getting a hug from Luke after they landed. Oh, and maybe by the fire in the Ewok celebration in VI, both times with no lines. Even in the cockpit, his dialogue doesn't go much beyond, "Whooo-ah, that got'im!!"

Hopefully, though do we even want Lando at this stage? He can't hang with Han. Or Leia. Or even Luke. Chewie, I guess? He could definitely be one of the generals we see in IX, since all of the current ones were wiped out. Begs the questions of why he didn't answer the call at the end of 8, though.

I hope what others have said about Billy Dee Williams being sick aren't true.

Man, just realized/remembered Episode 9 won't come out for 2 years until 2019. For some reason I wrongly thought it would come out next year. Forgot these movies are 2 years apart.

I feel like all the speculation for the next 2 years will lead to some disappointment like all the speculation after TFA. 2 years is quite a while to wait for the conclusion, I guess I got to put it out of mind for awhile.

There's a Star Wars movie every year, we got Han Solo for 2018 in May.

Are they still releasing that in May? I thought they would have bumped it to Dec after all the re-shoots and everything.
