Sony Announce Silver Sable/Black Cat Movie: Silver and Black

Quote:
Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote and directed The Secret Life of Bees, will direct Silver and Black, Sony’s Spider-Man offshoot that centers on characters Silver Sable and the Black Cat.

Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing the project, which has an October 2018 release date and is planning for a fall start.

Chris Yost, who worked on the upcoming Marvel movie Thor: Ragnarok, is writing the most recent draft. Lisa Joy, the co-creator of HBO’s Westworld, also worked on the script.

Silver Sable, created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz in 1985, is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals. The character has been both antagonist and ally to Spider-Man.

Black Cat, an acrobatic cat burglar whose real name is Felicia Hardy, has a long and tangled romantic history with Spider-Man in the comics. The character was cut from scripts for the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, and a "Felicia Hardy" (played by Felicity Jones) briefly appeared in Amazing Spider-Man 2, though no Black Cat connection was ever made explicit.

Sony is rebooting Spider-Man this summer with Spider-Man: Homecoming, and hopes to launch a slate of Spider-Man related movies. The first project, Venom, is already off and running, having snagged Tom Hardy as star and Ruben Fleischer as director. While Spider-Man is firmly in Marvel’s cinematic universe, Sony’s offshoots will stand apart.

Prince-Bythewood won acclaim and awards with her feature debut, the 2000 drama Love and Basketball. The writer-director has had her feet mostly planted in the drama world and on top of helming Secret Life of Bees also directed the romantic drama Beyond the Lights, which starred Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Nate Parker.

She co-created the crime drama Shots Fired, which is currently airing on Fox, and is due to direct the pilot for Cloak & Dagger, Freeform’s television series based on the Marvel Comics teen heroes.

Prince-Bythewood is repped by CAA and Del Shaw.

I'm really beginning to think these will be "stealth" additions to the MCU. i.e., they'll be their own things at Sony, but if they connect with audiences (a big if!)... Marvel may opt to use them in proper MCU Spider-Man or otherwise films.

Also, as far as we know, there's probably nothing stopping Sony from having the Tom Holland Spider-Man show up in their Venom movie or this thing. I mean, Marvel might not like it, but what can they do?

The title should entitle it to a few ticket sales to unaware Raiders fans expecting to see a documentary on the football team's history.

SWEEEETT!!!! I have been DYING to see Black Cat in a movie ever since she was rumored to appear in S-M 2 (before her part was cut- though she still appears in the video game!) She is one of my top five Marvel ladies. (The others are Ms. Marvel/Carol Danvers, Phoenix/Jean, Storm and Shadowcat. Having Sable in it is just icing on the cake. Hope this turns out as awesome as it sounds!

(The following is a joke response. I'm happy for these two getting adapted, but sorta hesitant for now until more info gets released.)

"Black Cat and Silver Sable Movie"

Me:

"Christopher Yost as Writer"

Me:

"Handled by Sony"

This has been on the boil for five years or more. It's Amy Pascal's pet project I believe.

You sure about that? I thought the Aunt May prequel was her pet project.

What's a mere joke for you is an awful reality for others. Yes, an Aunt May prequel already exists.
Behold.

The studio fanboyism on the internet is retarded, Sony can make good Spider-Man movies and somehow I feel Amazing SM isn't so bad. Both films are on Netflix so I think I'll be watching them soon and report back.

I'm super excited about a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe, there are so many characters there that they can use and this looks awesome. Could it suck? sure but it's really annoying to see all the comments "OH IT"S NOT MARVEL STUDIOS IT"S TEH SUCK" while praising the cookie cutter films the MCU has.

I'm a lover not a hater, I try to find the things I like from a movie not what I dislike. The original Spider-Man trilogy is great, sure 3 isn't amazing but it's far from the terrible movie people make it out to be and 1 and 2 basically set the standard for Superhero movies when they released, comparing them blindly to today's movies is rather unfair.

Yeah, it was code named Project Glass Ceiling. I think it predates Ghostbusters.

Which is weird, because his Marvel Knights Spider-Man run is one of the best runs I've ever read with the character.

Take this with a grain of salt but, It looks like the Silver and Black movie might be the start of a All-Female Spiderverse team-up movie.

I think I'll send Sony my resume. They obviously don't drug test their employees.
