Why two? Why not just make one?

Spin-offs airing alongside the original show aren't exactly uncommon (Fear the Walking Dead is a recent example), it's just that planning on making them from the start is really odd. It makes more sense to wait until a few seasons in to see if it's actually popular, you don't want to risk making two failures at once. |

Yeah the Star Treks just overlapped. Other shows such as CSI all started at separate times too. May be the same thing here, two different ideas/settings they like and one might kick off first.

This franchise needs to just die, the last films have been getting diminishing returns and it's time to let this franchise die already and do something else.

Oh, wow.
I wonder if either of these have Neil Blomkamp involved. I can never forget how District 9 rocked my world inside that 2009 movie theater. Wasn't a big fan of his last two films, but I loved his concept art for the Alien sequel he almost made. |

Probably no chance of that. Though apparently James Cameron is helping him with Alien 5 somehow...?

No, nothing is "going ahead." Yet. Though in the current climate of Fox's properties being absorbed by Disney literally any day now, the prospect of anything at Fox "going ahead" is probably nothing that should or can be banked on.
