If you've played the original DKC games, there's no way they can feel completely fine to you.

The game isn't even designed to use motion control.

Then there you go. That's probably why? I've never been a DK fan until now.

So I haven't played my Wii in ages because I haven't had the extra cash to spend on any new games. With Christmas coming up I'll get one, maybe two games. Any recommendations?

Kirby Epic Yarn
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Epic Mickey
NBA Jam
Super Mario All Stars Limited Edition

Not really a hard choice: Epic Yarn and DKC Returns.

Playing DKC Returns.

Level design: It's insane. WAAAAAY better than the originals.
Music: The remixes are amazing. The original stuff is completely forgettable.
Difficulty: Brutal, but I wouldn't want it any less so.
Controls: TOTAL SH*T. The jumping is stiff, and the rolling is completely totally broken. I blame Nintendo's forced use of waggle in all first party games. Had they limited the shaking to the ground pound, I would probably have thought it a bit cool. DKC was built upon using the roll as a take-off for your jump. The waggle is totally unpredictable so you wind up dying a zillion times for no fault of your own.

Verdict: I love everything except the controls and the new tunes. Next time around, put the sequel on 3DS (so we don't have to worry about waggle) and hire David Wise for the soundtrack since he's now independent and all should be good going forward.

I traded in some games and put $224 down on the 3DS at GameStop. Reserves went up today, so take advantage, dawgz.

I'm so exciiiiiiiiiiiiiited.

The potential of some/all 3DS games not being region free makes me sad. With the GB/GBA, DS, and PSP, I enjoyed importing obscure Japanese fighters and not having to buy a separate console for them.

I still think region-locking is one of the most archaic practices in games. It's different from the 80's/90's where so few people knew of anything that happened overseas, but now that the gaming world is, essentially, one huge entity, locking people out of playing games from different regions seems like total bullsh*t.

And really, who the hell is it hurting if you import some obscure Japanese fighting games, or if I import...ahem...witch touching games? It's not like there's suddenly going to be this mass amount of importing that'll put a dent in any of the markets. And like you said, this **** has been possible for years, anyways. Why phase it out now?

You're completely right. And the excuse they give is completely asinine, to boot:

Quote:
Different regions have different ratings systems. The region-locking allows us to provide the different parental controls to deal with the ratings in each territory.
F**king hell.

I'm sold on the 3DS. I just won't be getting one at the time of its launch. The games that are announced to be available at its launch don't really interest me, so by the time the games that would interest me come out, the unit's price will have lowered to something more reasonable. Hell, it might even end up being the first system of which I don't own the original model.

When the DSi came out, I was hoping that there would be Game Boy (Advance) games available on the DSi Shop some time. I'm glad to know that will be the case with the 3DS though.

My day was just made, thanks to that. The Wii has given us a lot of golden eggs this last year or so.
