Yayyyyy!
Honestly I think a TV series would be best (Hulu/Netflix?) because she's like... really more of a kid/teen oriented character. Honestly maybe she can be on New Warriors?

I wouldn't mind. I haven't read much recent work, but her being a cute kid fangirling would be different. Then she is also pretty different in terms of powers and design from Mar-Vell and Carol Marvel

I'm so very behind on all my comic reading, but I'm super stoked to see her get some screen time.

I know one thing about this character: she's Muslim.
No idea if she's any good or not, but I'm not surprised Feige is interested in expanding the cinematic ranks with her. Should be interesting.

Ugh. Great, so they're going to give their most badly stereotyped character her own movie? I predict crash and burn on this one. I read the first volume of her comic- and that was MORE than enough. She is probably the WORST MU character I've ever seen. Not because of being Muslim, but vecause she was written so poorly as one. A walking racial/ethnic/religious stereotype if ever ther was one. So is just about everyone else in that book. After reading Vol.1, I was utterly disgusted by how they took Carol out of the Ms. Marvel role, and replaced her with- THAT. Even Miles was more interesting and original. And less annoying.

Wait, so they haven't even released the Ms. Marvel movie with carol danvers and they're already basically replacing her? That's an odd move. The only satisfying way to get rid of Carol would be that Rogue steals her powers now that X-Men will be part of the MCU.
While this new character does seem to be inspired by the SJW wave at Marvel Comics, is it really that bad? I mean I'm no fan of making the characters have religion but Nightcrawler is catholic and that gives him somewhat of an interesting trait that sets him apart besides his demon look. |

Carol hasn't gone by the Ms. Marvel moniker since 2012. Kamala has held the title for the past 4 years.

Ah, yes, this is the reason DC's Captain Marvel goes by Shazam! now right? They somehow lost the license and they made Miss Marvel into Captain Marvel proper.
So this is going to be a movie about a sidekick then? |

No, Carol is getting a movie as CAPTAIN Marvel, another persona she has used. But I see this as just going to confuse people who don't know the characters.
Also, it's not her religion as such, but how cliched it's portrayed. Just really obvious that they were trying to push that angle as her main defining trait, but as something she secretly rebels against, with a very strict traditional Muslim family, and all the ridiculous individual stereotype Muslim character types that implies. Stern and strict father concerned with family image/honor, subserviant mother, etc.... Nightcrawler and Shadowcat (who is Jewish, btw) are both religious, but it is not the main/sole focus of their personalities. With Kamala, it basically IS. Fangirling over the Avengers aside....

That's not how I read her family at all, but then...I came from a pretty generic Italian American family with the exact same sterotypes...so maybe that's why.

I just found them all glaringly obvious and annoying. Could not find anything in it to like. Like the writer (who is supposedly one herself) just threw in every stereotype imaginable for the characters pedsonalities. Not to mention her powers and how she got them made little sense. Terrigen Mists don't affect normal humans that way, and I SERIOUSLY doubt she had any Inhuman blood..... I found the whole thing stupid, pandering, and unlikeable.

Finally! Called this one years ago. I'm surprised it took this long, she's one of the most popular characters who were recently introduced.
(One of the others being Spider-Gwen, but frankly that would just be too confusing to put in the MCU right now.) |

My ability to read comics ebbs and flows with the academic calendar, but I do wonder if Dust had a similar reception.

See, from the past history of the Inhumans, they consider themselves "superior" to normal humans (even mentioned in Medusa's first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man) and have always kept to themselves for the most part (to the point of avoiding humans entirely). Add to that their rigid caste system and the fact they live on the moon, and Kamala being one of them (or even descended from one) is all but impossible. I found her entire origin story (ie, how she suddenly "became/discovered" being one) utterly implausible at best. There is nothing in her family to indicate any past relationship to the Inhumans, and the Inhumans had not even VISITED Earth in several millenia prior to the reign of their current royal family, so exactly HOW could she be one in the first place??!! She MIGHT have a DROP of inhuman blood/DNA AT BEST- but still not enough to affect her.
