The Art of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Ciro Nieli
Sorry couldn't find a thread for this. The Book is out in just over a week, is there any previews, sneak peeks or news? I can't find anything about it, but Sounds interesting.

It should release on June 11th... haven't seen any previews of it yet.
If it really will be on shelves that soon, then surely there are people out there who already have it in-hand. Yet I haven't seen any preview yet. I've had it ordered for around a year, waiting patiently for it. I think most people here would probably get a lot of enjoyment out of this book, so if you didn't order it yet, get one secured at your favorite book store. Or I'll just make it easy for you: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1506709931/ |

Thanks for the preview link.
I'm excited for the book, and not judging it until I have it in hand. I will say though... an awful lot of the art shown seems shrank down to nearly thumbnail size. I hope it's not too hard to make out. The two-page spread of the Sewer Lair in particular jumped out at me. There's a ton of little drawings there that I really wish I could see in great detail, and not sure how well those will transfer to page. Anyway, we'll know soon enough. I will absolutely be sharing my impressions once I have it in hand for those who are not pre-ordering. So, hopefully the evening of the 11th or sometime on the 12th I'll have something more to say. |

I've created embedded links to make it easier for people to view the previews. All credit to Ciro, Nickelodeon and Dark Horse. Again link to order is just three posts up.

Yeaaaaah, I need me this. IT'S SO FRIGGIN' COLORFUL. Already some pretty interesting new info from the previews as well. (Chompy coming from Nick suggesting adding a Kirby-esque super-powered fifth Turtle from space is NUTS.)

This is cool. Any stuff like unused concepts, dropped episodes, or stuff that didn't pan out?

Sorry to hear that. Happens to me every few years. Amazon lost a copy of Smash 3DS for me last time. Thankfully they are good about refunding/resending.
I got my copy of the book yesterday. Spent some time looking through it, though I'll do a deeper delve soon. It left me wanting a lot more but what he did manage to include is really fascinating and rad. While some of the art is scaled down to almost thumbnail size, you can still see a lot of the detail. The book is super worth the money, that much I'm certain. It does feel rather abridged though, you can tell there's so much more that couldn't be fit in (particularly on pages where there's tons of thumbnails instead of larger pieces.) I don't want to sound negative about the book. The format Ciro chose highlights a lot of great things from the design process. I can see everyone who likes the show getting their money's worth, easily. |

Best I can tell you is that while the art book is massively enjoyable and packed with stuff to look at and adore, if you are hoping for large blow-ups of Ciro's sketches like that used to get posted on TMNT social media every time a convention came around and Ciro would show off new concepts... you aren't going to get a lot of that. Most of those drawings are shown a little on the small side, like 1/4 a page at most on a lot of them.
My own suggestion is to buy the art book and enjoy it for what it is, and if you love those Ciro sketches (like I do) collect the digital versions that you can easily find online, a lot of them are in nice resolution, and keep those for your private collection to look at as well. There are MANY sketches shown in the book that have not previously been released online, at least from what I remember seeing. And while most of the time the pics are large enough that you can see them fine, you aren't going to get like full page spreads most of the time of those. Would I rather have seen the book be twice as long and with an emphasis on more larger images? Yeah, but I'm sure they had a price point they wanted to hit so it is what it is. |

Thanks for the input newfan and Zulithe! Sounds like it's about what I'm expecting from the previews, too bad. Let me know if an in depth Youtube flip-through turns up though!

Got my copy. It looks great and some parts are extremely detailed. I do wish it had some more insight on the concepts and more annotation. Also, a few characters were missing at first glance.
Spoiler:
I got the Trollhunters art book at the same time, also by Dark Horse. They are pretty impressive coffee table books but I wish they showed more of the finished designs as well and had specific connections to the show ("this was used in episode 4 blah blah blah"). Also hoped for more "deleted content" and insights on characters that didn't appear on the show. But instead of judging it for what it isnt, I will say it is very colorful with wall to wall art, and very nicely designed and put together. A great resource for all 2k13 fans!

I'll spoiler tag as you did Spoiler:
Deleted scenes may have been interesting, if there were many? I remember reading that he so much to pick out and limit to fit in this book. |

My copy of the book arrived early this week. It was a good read, as well as a good collection of art.
That said, I was comforted to learn that LH was the secondary character Ciro was most eager to get to in the series, which might also explain why he got a little more screen time than in 2003. Also took note of the Chuck Norris/Cannon Films references. XD
