Off the top of my head I think I have picked up issues 1,2,5,6,7,8,11. What has stopped me from preordering is a combination of multi issue arcs such as #12 being 1 of 4. And the art style. That's what really turned me off from 9&10 was the look combined with the multiple issues. The most memorable to me for art/story has been 5,6,7,8. Aren't 12-15 basically a Karai mini-series? I like the one and done issues. Keep the multi-parters for the ongoing and the various mini series releases and do something with the art and I'm tempted to be a preorder TMNTU ever issue guy. |

It's hard to skip Universe when all the issues contribute to the main story. The only "filler" issue was the Wyrm one, everything else is basically the same thing as the main series.

That Wyrm story was pretty awesome though!

Yeah, the only Universe story I didn't care so much was the recent one with Dreadmon. It was just ok, but it was obviously just there as set-up for a future Null arc that hasn't happened yet.

Glad the Usagi special sold well, I'm hoping Stan Sakai draws more Turtle stories in the future.
Universe might need a revamp in the coming year if its going to still go on. And...the Nick comic's second to last issue is barely above 5,000. Even if sales remained good, it probably would have ended at this point anyway since the cartoon itself is ending. |

And...so #72 looks to have added around 107 more than #71. I am a little surprised that an issue advertised as a part 2 of 2 added numbers. But that's good. |

Yeah, Universe has only been going on for 1 year so far (12 issues in means 12 months out of the year), and it's sales declined fast. Hopefully it goes on at least a full second year though, if only because it fills in some nice plot threads and gives screentime to characters not in the main ongoing.

I would be interested in knowing if each individual comic has to pull it's own weight to keep from being cancelled. Or if a mildly successful book could piggyback on a more successful book. As long as a certain overall profit margin is happening within the franchise. I wonder how low sales would need to be before losing money? I think IDW has the imaginary line drawn but keeps it private, understandably. But if Robotanimals is any guideline than it seems 5,000 in sales is still acceptable. Who wouldn't love to sell five thousand of a book. It's 5000 more sales in a month you wouldn't normally have.

I agree. As long as the main sells well just keep going with it.
You're not telling me they don't make a tidy sum on selling 9000 units! |

Also consider that Universe is $5 instead of $4. If you look at the dollar ranking instead of the units sold, it's barely behind the ongoing.

This post also had me remember the tpb and hc side of the industry. Lots of the original work is already completed. That most likely bumps profit margins and helps with the single issues continuing.

Plus digital sales don't get reported. No printing costs for those.

When it is initially released yes. But you can usually get killer deals down the line if your patient. LCS usually don't have deals even on back issues, but Comixology has deals regularly on comics.

Dimension X sold pretty consistently. Not much of a huge drop from the 5 issues.

I find tmnt universe to be a really hard sell. A lot of the side-characters aren't compelling enough to warrant these multi-part stories, in my opinion.
I'd go for more one-and-done's, issues featuring the turtles, or issues using fan favorite(Mirage) creators. |

I like how universe fills in plot threads that we don't have time for in the ongoing and shows us characters we haven't seen in a while like they're doing with Karai right now, who hasn't appeared since issue 50 in the main series.
But I can see how casuals might think otherwise, hence the lower sales. Oh well. |
