By the way whatever happened with Dark Horse and Marvel controlling the Star Wars comics? I remember hearing that Dark Horse was going to lose the rights to Marvel because of Disney, whatever happened to that?
Nothing. Dark Horse still has a licensing deal to produce X number of Star Wars comics for X amount of time... it didn't simply get voided when Disney bought Star Wars. Whenever that licensing deal is up, though, of course you can bet Disney would have Marvel do the Star Wars comics from then onward... wouldn't make any sense for Disney to have a middle man (Dark Horse) do them when they own a perfectly good comic book company themselves (Marvel).

And thus, should the Star Wars license revert back to Marvel where it began, "The circle is complete."

Sorry, saw a chance to hit my 5000th post AND quote Star Wars at the same time, and I just couldn't let it go.

Do we know how long Dark Horse has the license for? It would be ironic if it expires around the time Episode 7 hits theaters.

Dark Horse has a new series starting tomorrow. The Star Wars. It's supposed to be based on Lucas' original draft, and it looks quite different. But if it's based on a film script, it can't be that long of a series...

I think the title "Phantom Menace" is pretty bitching.

"Attack of the Clones" though... so bland.

"A New Hope" doesn't quite stir the soup, does it?

Also, I have no idea what that means.

The new movies will ignore the comics/books but I think they specifically mentioned how big and diverse the SW universe is because of said media. So I they'll definitely use it, and probably just take the best bits of them and use it. Lets face it, the EU has amazing ideas and also things that make the Jar Jar Binks look like an amazing idea in hindsight. At first I was hoping the movies would not contradict too much and the novels would be able to work around it like they have done since the beginning, I mean you have to give them credit the EU has always gone out of their way to explain contradictions no matter how convoluted the explanations are, I think they can still do it. But i'm now ok with them having two universes a "tv/movie" universe and a "book/comic" one, the movies will just follow their own continuity and the books/comics/games/media their own. That way all the new TV/Movie media can use the best ideas of the EU and the EU can continue. Then again I don't see Disney allowing the EU to continue with their stories that have nothing to do with current on screen SW's so they'll probably have to do comics/books on those, so it'll get convoluted explanations anyway. I really don't think they'd restart the EU, you would basically kill most of its fanbase.

Now as far as the individual star wars movies, I think they're a great idea. SW is a universe filled with ideas and possibilities much more than say Marvel heroes and we've been having at least one Marvel movie per year since 1998 I think, we can see the "Episode" movies as the "Avenger" movies so to speak. I'd love to see movies based on many characters and with different directors that have a way different feel than the actual movies, we can have horror/thrillers/detective etc, any genre, some movies will be terrible and some could be much better than the OT even if they aren't exactly "SW" movies and just based on that universe.

Um...that's assuming that those expanded universe characters exist in theses films...

From what I've read online, it doesn't sound like George Lucas reads the novels at all, and he's always considered them a separate universe from his own.

The article he posted even says that the expanded universe will not be a part of the story.

Also wouldn't consider that official confirmation. We all know they are going to be in it but nothing has been made 'official'

I read on a Star Wars wiki that when making the prequel trilogy, Lucas would consult the wikis to see if something like a planet he was going to use had been named yet. If that's true, he would probably, at least, use the names of next generation characters.

I'm getting this stuff here, btw:

George Lucas approves of the storylines. Heck it was HIS idea to kill off Chewbacca because he felt the EU was getting a bit stale.

I pity the poor people at Wookiepedia after the movie comes out with the EU issues.

I've reread the NJO series a time or two since it was originally released and Vector Prime still makes me cry lol. That series along with LOTF certainly spiced things up a bit.

I always thought it was weird that they would just throw the movie and EU stuff together. I can't parse it out without being an expert...
