Episodes of those irksome eighties cartoons where they got it right.

Well as my thread about details from eighties cartoons which irk you showed, there are a lot of people who noticed the same things I did about layered animation, continuity errors and scale differences which were never addressed.

But that doesn't mean that the series themselves were bad when it came to the actual episodes. Every series had its absolute Gems, so let's talk about the times when a series got it absolutely right.

First up "Enemy with my face" of She-ra Princess of power.

This one had it all:
- An actually very clever villain plan.
- She Ra having to deal with somebody who is actually just as strong as she is.
- The humor is spot on. That scene where She Ra says to the Melog that it threw everything at her but the kitchen sink...

The only thing that irks me about this one is Lookie, the series would have been so much better without him...

The Intros. So much the intros.

Also, making the most of "Status Quo," episodic-storytelling.

The second ever episode of Visionaries, where the Darkling Lords win, and win decisively.

80's cartoons actually had many times that I would say they "got it right". I found 80's cartoons least entertaining when they were trying to $hit out 65 episodes as quickly as possible to get to five day a week syndication. However, there's clearly times that you can tell the creators were actually putting an effort in. And most of those times seemed to be when they weren't in a rush to get to 65 total episodes.

What comes to my mind is a lot of the five part mini-series. G.I. Joe started off with at least of couple of five part mini-series before they tried to load up to 65 total episodes. I still find Transformers first (16 episode) season to be very entertaining. She-Ra had a five part mini-series that I found very good. However, the creators chopped it up and pasted it back together so that they could release it in theaters. And TMNT's own five part mini-series is considered by most to be among the best episodes from the show. So when the creators were taking their time and not rushing to get to 65 episodes, I think they put out many entertaining stories.

The Ducktales mini-series that launched the cartoon. That was originally edited into one long "movie episode". That was perfection - it perfectly represented the property, perfect song, perfect quality animation and coloring, perfect "adventursome" story.

M.A.S.K was quite consistent, despite never having the benefit of a five part epic or a movie. It only got stupid in the racing year.

BraveStarr got it right with the Price and Fallen Idol.

MLP got it right with The Return of Tambelon, perhaps its best episode in the series.

He-man, Teela's Quest.

Inspector Gadget was great in the Japanese Connection.

"M.A.S.K.!
Do they know... 'Command' doesn't start with a K...?!"

...I'll see myself out. I'm sorry, that skit is all I can think about anymore when anyone mentions M.A.S.K.

Basically any show with 65+ episodes that had multi-part story arcs.

Series that stayed somewhat consistent story, quality, etc. wise such as Dungeons and Dragons, Garfield and Friends, etc.
