San did you get fed up with the ep 8 thread? seriously though, I wish they'd done the sequels earlier also, when the cast were younger. Wasn't it always George's plan to do the prequels first?

Meryl Streep a Leia?... nah. Any news on what they plan to do about her character yet, so far as replacing or just writing in that she died?

Yeah. He literally told Mark Hamill to be ready to reprise Luke after those.

I can understand people wanting to see the ST when the cast was younger... but I don't really see the purpose. Maybe 10 years earlier. A lot of people are just pissed they don't ever get to see a Thrawn movie trilogy with Luke and Han and Leia, but that was never going to happen.

I remember Hamill in a video (back then) saying about the sequels coming after but I'm sure he thought it would be the early 2000's

All of them together in at least one movie would have been good, I didn't need it right after Jedi but sooner than we got it, Luke was only just a Jedi when we last saw him. Glad we saw them at all though, I didn't think we would.

But wait... since when has the announcing of second unit directors been a thing? Like, ever? In any movie?

Did Lucasfilm put out a press release about this? I assumed websites saw Ava Duvarney post this on social media and they ran it as a story to get the clicks because it's a Star Wars story.

Is the political angle the reason "geek culture" blogs are still trying to make it out like fans liked The Last Jedi? I think it is but I don't want to go all Alex Jones/Vegita on people

Well, it's ok to celebrate these "small" victories. Maybe for a man it doesn't seem like much but if it's the first time it happens then yeah it should be noted. If it isn't then yeah it's a bit ridiculous but we already know the bias Disney Star Wars has.

face it. the very reason disney is the way disney is, is why they release articles like this. they are trying to reach a certain audience these days. and if you look her up on imdb, she's only done TV it looks like. and only one major national show.

does that make her qualified to work on a big budget production, let alone a big budget sci fi production, like star wars?

Disney didn't release this news though. A black woman was celebrating another black woman for getting this job on social media. Clickbait sites ran with it.

Not to conspiracy theorize much, but... she probably wouldn't have been allowed to announce that/wouldn't have risked getting her colleague in trouble unless someone at Disney gave her the greenlight or even... encouraged the announcement to begin with.

We're in very much a PR world now, more so than ever before in films. It's naive to think otherwise.

Couple of days old news but... they're casting a 40-50 year-old female under the codename "MARA." The thinking is that it might be Mara Jade, or a Mara Jade-like character. Probably that's on the money.

Rey meets her mom, then we get Force Ghost Luke playing house. Maybe.

mara alone could support a three movie trilogy with her back story.
