So Tatum might direct it... in an alternate reality where this movie actually happens.

Or maybe Michelle Obama, or Winston Churchill, or, hell, Adolph Hitler.

While we're discussing things that will never, ever, happen, we might as well have some fun!

Does anybody even care about Gambit anymore? It's not 1993. I don't follow the comics, so I'm actually just asking.

Wizard magazine used to bang that drum every month, all the way through the end of their print run. I remember the collective enthusiasm dipped sometime around 15 years ago, but I guess they've been talking about it non-stop for 25 years, they feel an obligation to not abandon it completely until it's officially a lost cause.

...MORE officially a lost cause, I guess.

I'm picturing Tatum sitting by himself in a dark room with a deck of cards, wondering why his phone isn't ringing. Sad.

Nobody even cares about Fox's X-Men anymore, much less some Cajun guy who flips cards around and is played by Magic Mike.

I mean, theoretically, a Gambit/Rogue movie could be cool. Rogue sure as hell needs a better movie.

But nah, nobody cares.

Didn't think so.

As I've said, I don't follow, but everything about that character screams "Early-90s", to me, always did. From the trenchcoat over the costume, to the haircut, to the weird "faceless mask-thing with the hair sticking out the top" and the "I wear pouch-belts on my legs, for some reason, and they're asymmetrical because FASHION!" stuff. He's like a Liefeld sketch that was discarded for not having enough pouches so somebody else decided to "borrow" it.

I remember he was everyone's favorite in like 1992. I'unno. He's weird.

So... it would have been set in the 70s and inspired by "The Godfather"? What?

I can say with certainty that I do not give two f*cks about Gambit, and I'm not sure why anyone else would in [CURRENT YEAR].

The Gambit movie is the most talked about thing that nobody ever wanted. It's humorous how much the studio continued to promise this was on its way, like anyone actually cared.

"Don't worry guys and gals. It's coming. Just be patient, because the script has to be right. The cast has to be right. We want to do this this the right way."

Everyone - "Sure. I mean, it's fine. Uh, take your time, we aren't all that worried about it. What's up with that Deadpool and/or X-Force movie?"

Anyways, I'm being a bit harsh, but it was baffling how much they pushed for this movie. I guess because Channing Tatum really likes the character or something. I think most people are like myself, in that we would gladly take Gambit in a future X-Men film, but that's about it. My first encounter with the character was in the 90's X-Men cartoon. The dude seemed shady as hell, and I liked that dynamic. You didn't know if you could trust him to have the other X-Men's best interest at heart. In that role, within an ensemble, I think he works really well. Start with that.

I would have been interested in it if it wasn't for Tatum.
He has emotional range of a brickwall and charisma of a stone. Gambit should be fun and charismatic and Tatum is nothing like that.

Obviously it's not going to... But why the hell not? Just modify the script to fit the MCU, if they want to make movies about Star-Lord, Captain Marvel, Shang-Chi and The Eternals, then they might as well make a Gambit movie.

It isn’t 1992 anymore and no one cares about Gambit when there’s other X-Men more deserving of MCU films. He absolutely should appear on the team or at least somewhere in the MCU, but a whole film? I don’t think so.

And the timing isn't right. They need to introduce mutants into things organically, and will. It wouldn't just be "Yay! We have X-Men rights... let's start with Gambit!"

That's...unusual.
Like why? And why Tatum? Can we have someone with at least some acting talent?
