“Boy Scouts Changing Name To 'Scouts BSA,' As Girls Welcomed Into Program“
https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-...d-into-program
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn...rnd/index.html Kind of reminds me of this great episode. Only slightly different because the boys wanted to join the girls and not be in Ron’s group. |

Well, there were girls in Ron's group when they were given the chance to be in Ron's group. Ron just had to be open to the idea, which he wasn't originally.

I don't really have a problem with this. If the Girl Scouts was doing the same stuff as the Boys Scouts that'd be one thing... but they're not. If girls want to sharpen knives and carve things instead of selling sh**ty cookies, why not let them?

Seriously! I don’t know why everyone acts like the cookies are the best thing ever. Haven’t they had fresh baked cookies before or tried literally any other retail cookie? SMH

Yeah, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are leagues apart in what kind activities they do.
In the one year I was a Girl Scout, "camping" meant staying in a log cabin with a dining hall nearby. My brothers, who were Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, did things that were a lot more exciting. With "camping" that meant actually camping. They were a lot more "fru fru" and didn't really teach wilderness survival as extensively as Boy Scouts. So yeah, I'm all for it. If this had happened when I was a kid, I would probably have happily scouted alongside my brothers. Especially since both our parents were councilors for their Boy Scout troop. I wanted to learn to use a knife so I could carve things. Being particularly awed by a bear my mom carved out of a bar of soap. Then for a couple months, I was in a Boy Scouts branch-off for older kids that was unisex...but it was painfully boring and seemed to be more about prepping camping activities for the Scouts.

"With", maybe? I would have been ahead of them, though, since I'm the oldest. So it wouldn't have been quite the same.

Here's the thing about those shity cookies, they raise an absolute **** ton of money. That money allows the Girl Scouts to make their own rules, and not be beholden to religious organizations.
Want to know why they kicked out gay and atheist boys? Because the Church of Latter Day Saints threatened to their funding. If the Boys Scouts sold something better than crappy popcorn in tins, then they wouldn't have to rely on donations from organizations that require discrimination.

I'm glad we don't have boy scouts and girl scouts in Norway since the 70's, it's just Scouts with none of that separation ********.
Although, all I remember from the scouts was the scarf and St. George, our scout house had a huge painting of St. George killing the dragon. |
